Large scale Millennium Falcon Kit ID's**New Maps at start of thread**

I would like to ask if anyone might have a back-up collection of the unedited Forbidden Plastic hi-res photos of the ANH 5 foot Millennium Falcon that i may be able to get for reference?

I would also be interested in any other clear hi-res photos of the Falcon people may be willing to share (I do have the FFF collection). I have been doing a newer set of accurate ANH Falcon decals and need them to be as clear as possible.

I would also like to ask for a little help identifying one that has been difficult for me to find reference for, maybe someone here will recognize it?

Here is the best image I have of it...

...it is located on the top rear starboard side, near the engine deck, which you can see in this wider view...

wow,

What an interesting Thread...still getting caught up ...

But I just wanted to say:
Thanks! to all those who have done such a great job identifying kit parts.
I am utter amazed at all the hard work and Keen eye, and diligence for such a task.

I had been milling over in my head for the last 3 years and I've decide to go ahead and try my Hand at a 5 footer too. :wacko
Already had half the kits ...Been gathering up the harder to find kits for the past 9 months

I'm glad to see others taking the 3D/CAD Cam approach to supplement traditional techniques
-that is one area that I hope I can contribute too --perhaps with some 3D parts but also some 2D Cad work for laser cutting etc.

ChinGun Parts.jpgChinGun Parts_0.jpgTest Batch.jpg
Here's a small sample of parts made from other projects

On the greeble/ kit parts front -I've been building up quite a Library

I respect Stu for wanting to Scratch build everything but for me sometimes the best use of my time is to use Laser-Cutting, Stereo-lithography,CNC Milling and other Rapid-Prototyping techniques.
Of course it's a balancing act: with the budget too , while 3D print can be cool..it is not always the cheapest way to go

For my own Build I'd like to have the Cockpit & Gun-Turret bays emulate the full-size sets (ANH)
With the plethora of very talented traditional Scratch-builders on this board; I hope I can lend a hand to the MF builders community with some 3D/CGI/CAD tools brought to bear on this subject

Hey gremlin,

I'm in the same cad/cam camp! I should be posting my cad files for the ANH interior side walls to GrabCAD tomorrow - just needed to finish the renders. They are full scale set pieces, but I've been scaling them down for miniature builds. Feel free to use them!

Cheers,
j.

Heya Mike,
Awesome you're going to enter the frey & do a Falcon mate, I hope you know what you're in for:lol
Just to clarify my build a bit: I'm using original kit parts as much as possible, buying multiples of ones that are feasible to do so.
Some are not feasible & I will be casting copies. My goal was to always have as much actual plastic as possible & I'm still sticking with that.
The hull & substructures yeah will be & are built from scratch of course from acrylic & styrene with a metal armature.
There will be no printed parts at all, no CNC milled anything!. Old school I guess:D

Your build will be exciting to see evolve Mike, being a completely different approach by the sounds.
Either way, we all end up with a 5' Falcon in front of us, yeeha!.

The decal in question (from post #1230) looks to be an older International Harvester log in gold. Hope this helps. Think truck or tractor kits.

regarding the decal,

I'll look into recreating in in Vector art.
I recently re-created all the TIE decals (look for a new thread soon) don't know why I didn't do it ages ago... it tookonly took about 2 hours
For logos like Champion, Tamiya,or GoodYear ...they are readily available for free downloads as vector art it then just a simple matter of editing and cropping them as ILM had done.

I'll start snooping for International Harvester Logo Vector art on line.

Sounds cool Maruska! I'd love to see some Renders
Wow! I'm really a Johnny come lately to this party I doubt if there is anything left for me to contribute.

Thanks too, Stu, I was on the fence about doing 5 foot Bird
made up my mind at Wonderfest 2013 after seeing John Currila's workbench (he handcrafts everything ..but some of it looks machine made..amazing!)
And also talking with Paul Francais, who, as you all know, has built a least two -32"-er's and is pretty far along with his 5 footer.
I have not been craving to make a Millennium Falcon for as long as you have (Kudos to you!)
but he Falcon is perhaps my second favorite ship after the X-wing in the SW universe
Got to give priority to the 1/12 X-wing project first, then the MF comes to my full attention -next.

I do feel as if I'll be standing on the "shoulders of Giants", You guys here have laid down so much ground work make it easy for those of us "late to the party"

Regarding 3DCAD/CAM most of the time it does not make sense to grow kit parts (versus originals or Casting) but for project like my 1/12 X-wing or the 1/24 TOS Cylon Raider when you need kit parts in a different scale ..it makes sense,

Fabricated Portion like the Engine Rings and perhaps the laser Cannons it may also make sense to Print (hope I'm not getting too off topic)
I'd like to CNC-mill a Pie shaped section for Thermal Vacuum forming curved sections fro the "Clam-shell or "Hamburger"part of the Falcon

Would anyone be interested in Thermal formed sections for their build?

You can count on any help you need Mike with your Falcon build when you are ready.

I'm going the vac-formed hull panel route as well, makes sense as you only need to make a section as a buck & use for the rest.
I have decided that I will no longer offer parts that I make as 'parts sets', as there has been little to no interest in what has been offered in the past by me. That's not a grudge, but rather a realisation that the 5' Falcon is a very 'limited' wanted model by the model building community. I have done the engine vents/gun turrets & offered as parts sets, really it fell on deaf ears, there just aren't serious enough Falcon builders out there. Therefore I will be making the future parts for my build & offering to the 'group' of 5' Falcon builders if they want them, no problem.
The Falcon I guess, is such a 'boutique' model that interest is high, but actual builds will be low, similar to a Galactica.
This is what makes the Falcon 'special', well, to me it is, the 'grail' of all ANH miniatures.

I made an earlier post referring to an "Enhanced Radar Dish" that was used for the ANH Millennium Falcon scenes, and I didn't have an image to back up my claim.....
I may be mistaken, I don't have any of my reference accessible, but isn't that the large radar dish model that was made for the close up shots for the film?
I am not aware of a larger scaled closeup dish model for ANH.

....I finally found the image. It's on page 96 in Star Wars Chronicles. You'll notice a "hand" just right of the dish.

Wow. That thing is massive. Thanks Scratchy. What scene in Star Wars would they have used that in? During the escape from the Death Star and the TIE Fighter flyover? I heard about one being made for TESB but does this mean it was built BEFORE then?

That's amazing!! I had NO idea they built that. It astonishes me that even now some 30 plus
years later that there are still things about the Falcon were still learning.

Thanks for the input on the decal emojo5 and greeble_gremlin...I looked into the International Harvester logo but don't think its quite right...

IH_examples.jpg or IH_examples2.jpg

...I also was looking at one from Isky Cams which also seems close...

isky-cams_example.jpg

...I will keep looking but will most likely just make one that looks right.

If you or anyone has more input it would be appreciated, thanks again for your help :)
