Glitch from Reboot (Progress Pics up) WIP (Need more ref pics)

I just did a test with my rare earth magnets to see if they would do their job, and it was a flying success. For those thinking of using the same method, I used 4 magnets measuring 1/4" x 1/4" x 3/4" with a force of I think 20 pounds each that can be bought online from kjmagnetics.com. They're a great site with excellent customer service, I recommend them. You glue one into each end of the inside of the pepped body on the side that faces your arm. Now, you have to do this one at a time, because the magnets are extremely powerful. To do this (and to make pepping it easier), I actually cut out a window from the back side roughly 1/4" from each beveled edge so that I'd have full access. So once it's pepped and you've applied resin to the outside (wear a respirator), glue one magnet in at one end, then mix up your mud and pour it into that end so that it completely covers the magnet. Trust me when I say the glue alone won't hold these magnets, but they have to be that strong to hold Glitch in place in case you swing your arm or have to run from a virus, etc. Mix up more mud and pour it down the center just to make sure your chunk of mud doesn't come loose, then glue the other magnet into the other end and repeat. In my case, I'll be mounting the watch/cog piece with a screw stuck through the metal plate on the back of the watch body, so I'm leaving my Glitch hollow with the back still open so I can screw a nut onto the end of that bolt. That way I can change the battery or reset the time whenever necessary. The last step, putting the other two magnets into your wrist strap, are up to you. Just remember to either give the magnets "roll" room in small pouches or glue them on facing the correct direction so that the polarities match the ones inside Glitch. And if this small tutorial was crap, please let me know and how to fix it.

Oh, and brief exposure to the magnets had no effect on a digital wristwatch I've got sitting around. I've got all 4 of them stuck to it right now and I'm going to leave them overnight to see if they have any effect.

I'm pretty excited, too. I'm still not sure exactly how I'll be doing the wrist strap. I want it primarily to be low profile and elastic so I can hide it under a long sleeved shirt, but I also want it to look OK when exposed because I don't actually wear long sleeves that often.

And fun fact, these magnets WILL fly toward the needle of a sewing machine, if you were planning on sewing them into a wrist strap, use caution. That was my plan, which I don't think will work now. Unless they sell aluminum sewing needles and presser feet somewhere.

Haha, yes, magnets love to pull at your needles, and I can't wait to see what you come up with, as for putting magnets on mine, I was going to drill the holes for 2 Neodymium Button magnets that are .5 inches in Diameter, then fill the entire body with expanding foam since I have it laying around, and then use a rotary tool to carve little 'niches' for them to sit in, and glue them down with gorilla glue. As for the arm band, I was thinking of getting those sweat bands they sell for when you work out and stuff that go on your wrist, but a thin one, and sewing the magnets inside those.

That could work. If you're talking about the button magnets I think you're talking about though, you might find they don't hold as well as you need them to. I had to make absolutely sure before putting my magnets in the prop that I could play a game of tennis without it coming off, and sure enough....

Got these a few days ago but didn't have time to post them...from the episode where Matrix becomes Megabyte...

That looks like it matches the most recent pep file perfectly! Thanks for that. Glad to see some visual proof that the proportions are all 100% correct.

Ah, well knowing my Father, he wont ever wear it, So I figure once I finish it, I may make a display for it that looks like Bob's forearm and hand, so that's why I'm making it attach, and he may wear it every once in a while.

Thanks for great pics SithLord, and I agree with Rizu, the pep looks like it's 'screen' accurate

Glad to be of help.

BTW I ordered seasons 1-4 in a DVD set (yes I know what the heck?)....we'll see how they look and if it is legit....sure cost enough. :unsure

Today's the day, I'm going to find my gallon bucket of fiberglass resin and finish the body. With all the flat sides it should be pretty easy to smooth out.

By the way, epilepticsquirl, I just now noticed that you edited your post telling me how to fix the flap problem and I tried it out, but that doesn't work. That only lets you delete the flaps, not combine two into one.

Hey guys, Love what your doing with this.

Hope you don't mind, I took your file and redid the unfold to be bit more Friendly to pepping and work with. It was pretty decent, just a few spots like the gear that would be better served this way, should allow a final crisper finished pep'ed peice.

Any objections to the re unfold just say so and i'll take it down.

Hope nobody minds, but I'm going to be making a Glitch of my own. Thank you guys for posting this, and I hope to share what I've made soon.

Good job and kudos all around to the fine work you folks have done thus far!

I didn't make the original, but I certainly don't mind the new version. That'll make it WAY easier to pep, it'll just take a bit of effort to keep all the pieces lined up right. But that's totally worth it. I should have the gear done in no time. Thanks!

It is worth noting though that the scale changed on your new file, was that because you moved the pieces closer together, or actually changed the scale?

that's just from the reunfolding process, and that i have my pep des set to a default scale. it's pretty easy to fix that though so before you print it out just rescale it to match. Course you could also use this method to make multiple different "gear" heads with different functions.

That's true. I printed out a test version and it looks like even though it's a different size in the program, everything still comes out the same size. I'll print another one upsized to the old measurements and see how that one looks as well.

Sparx: You don't NEED Pep Designer, but it is helpful, especially for changing scale and whatnot, it just has a lot more tools. Pep viewer will allow you to print it, though.

By all means, any help with the unfolding process is awesome! I've no clue how to work pepakura to it's full potential, just basic things. So I for one approve! :thumbsup

This glitch is free for anyone to use, all I ask is that I see some progress pics! So pep it up!

Risu, I'd love to get a copy of your finished cog. I'll compensate you for your time, materials and shipping of course. I'll PM you further down the road!

I hope to see some awesome glitches!
