Glitch from Reboot (Progress Pics up) WIP (Need more ref pics)

sure, which format would you like it in. All I ask is that I see some progress pics!

I just realized your in Port St. Lucie, I'm down in West Palm Beach

You bet, I just have to resin the body and make it to homedepo, could you put it in Obj or Pdo (Not sure if you can put it in Pdo)

And sweet, we should get togeather sometime, build some stuff, trash a town and go to a con :thumbsup

Lemme know if you're interested :love:lol

I've been pepping for a little over a year now, made lots of Master Chief HD helmets, so I'm up to the challenge. I think pep is the best possible way to do this. Also, you don't need to make the backs of the body or the cog closed, you can just leave them open, or nearly open with just the edges pepped. It'll be much easier to assemble them and you can just pour some mud in, so no need for fiberglass at all. Once I pep the cog I'm going to mold it and make a solid onyx resin cast anyways (as long as that's ok with you, epilepticsquirl). So if anybody else doesn't want to pep one I can hook you up with a cast.

Again, if you're stuck on getting the file turned into a pep file, send dung0beetle (correct spelling this time) a PM.

That's an excellent model you made. I do think the bottom edges of the body should maybe be beveled though.

Risu,
You're free to do what you want with it, cast it up. I'd love to have a resin cast to make my own glitch!

I uploaded the .pdo but it hasn't been unfolded yet. When I click the unfold button it seems to unfold it easy enough. I'll post it up in a bit. Just looks complicated. hehe

EDIT: Lemme know if that works

EDITX2: Does that look feasible to you?

Could be.... I'd have to see it in higher res to be sure, it gets pretty tight around the cogs.

sorry for the fumbling, trying to get used to the forum setup. Try this one. should be bigger

i'll shoot Dungbeetle a PM and see if he make it more manageable

It definitely looks doable, but a couple of scales are off (unless this is your original version maybe?) When printed so that the window on the cog is exactly 1.5 inches wide, the rest of the pieces are slightly undersized, approximately 1/8 of an inch in each dimension, on average.

I think that's just Pepakura acting funky. When I exported the picture I upped the pixels to show the details. not sure though. Lemme print a test page

EDIT: yea you're right, The cog seems to be the right size, but everything else is 1/8th inch off. weird

Oh no, I meant when I hit unfold in pep on my computer and printed it. I made sure it didn't adjust the scale, so it should have printed exactly how it was designed.

same thing happened when I hit unfold. I double checked Rhino and the dimensions were sound. Lemme try exporting another format maybe.

I knew i wasn't going crazy, If you go in Pepakura do this:
2D Menu>Change Scale>Scale Factor...
change the scale to 1 and that should get you squared away. That would explain the model being 1/8" smaller all around.

My scale factor was at 24 something, changing it to 1 made it microscopic. What would be the height when it's scaled correctly?

Also, will you be making another with beveled back edges?

okay, bear with me here. What happened was I was modeling in Rhino's native INCHES format. Pepakura uses a native MM format.
So, in Rhino, I switched to a MM format and exported it that way.
When I open it in pepakura, I changed the scale factor to 1.
This should get you squared away.
Here is the CORRECT FILE to use and it will yield you the proper dimensions. phew

almost missed you there. Do you mean the main body on the underside where your forearm would meet? or on the underside of the cog. I can do both.

Cool, mine was 91, 58, 22 before. The new scaling makes it perfect, except the cog is about 2 3/8 inches across. I'm not sure if that'll look too big in relation to the rest of it. If the model is any indication, it might. I suppose since it was probably never rendered the same way twice and that piece changed size drastically for different functions, it's good enough.

And sorry if I'm being too picky, thank you so much for modeling this.

you know what happened, I didn't take into account the extended bevel. When I was modeling it, I concentrated on the topmost cogs, where the bevel begins. From there it's 2.25 inches. From the center to the outer most region of the cogs it's 2.44 inches. I can fix that.
I'll reupload the model with adjusted cog size and chamfer on the bottom part of the casing.

How does the pepakura look though? To me it looks like a folding nightmare

Actually, this new, already unfolded one you just uploaded looks fantastic, much less nightmarish than the previous one. I was just about to start working on the body, but if you're going to put out a new one I'll wait. If you upload it tonight I'll finish it by morning and have it ready for glassing by the end of the day tomorrow. (the body anyways, no point in finishing the cog until I find out when I go back to work, where I store my casting resin and silicone. Actually, I suppose I should fill it up with mud anyways and drill out the window. I really need to find a good watch to put in there, at this rate I'll be done in no time.

all right cool, I'm working on it right now. Just to confirm we are a go for a chamfer (bezel) on the underside of the body right?

Yes, I definitely want that on there. :thumbsup

I found myself wanting to go to a store and buy one of those pins, the ones that are 2 inches or so across and have slogans or whatever else on them, and take the pin off the back and fill it up with resin, then put rare earth magnets in the back like I did with my ST comm badges and repaint it with the gold and black guardian pattern. People don't know what that is, so you could probably get away with wearing it on a blue t-shirt.
