FX Saber assembly line

Cool to see. Remember when America used to have factories like this?

Don't get me started!

This country isn't worth a damn anymore. We can make tons of stuff ourselves but the bastards with the money would rather give it to other countries instead of keeping the home fires burning!

Like I said, DON'T get me started!!:angry

Interesting.
I noticed how much ISN'T automated!

It's not just a US thing, but a western civilization thing and it's not as simple as "giving it to other countries". At the same time, we are also exploiting the hell out of those we pay. The western standard of living would be a lot less if we didn't outsource. We are no longer content to break our backs for table scraps and die of pneumonia like our grandparents were. Would you pay $400 for an FX saber?

But I do believe there is a balance that can be maintained. We shouldn't be getting rid of all our manufacturing resources. But how do we make companies want to make less money, or say "enough is enough" to the "money people", without calls of "Commie! Commie!" starting to sound?

We all know that in many countries, the "human machine" is worth very little. How many of us would be willing to do that job for the same pay, with their working conditions? I'd wager a great many of us would put bullets in our brainpans after a couple weeks in one of those factories, which is why I think those making our toys deserve quite a big pile of respect. I gotta say again... great video. Thanks for posting it. :thumbsup

(See how I cleverly got that back on topic at the end?) :)

well put - I wonder how many of those people even know what it is that they're making, lol.

China, having just emerged from being a full-fledge communist country, still try to look after as many of its people as possible by providing them with work. Automation would put a lot of workers out of work. Furthermore, its cheaper to pay workers to do the work then to repair and replace machinery.

My dad was in China for a company trip once and as he was waiting by the side of the road for the tour bus to arrive, he saw workers doing road work compacting the earth with shovels and other manual tools, while a compactor was sitting idle some distance away. He asked the supervisor (the only guy not doing any manual work) why they're not using the compactor, and the supervisor told him if they used it less people would have work to do.

Sad but true.

Now there's a classic case of stereotyping if ever I saw one.

Just because they're not as well-off financially don't mean they're ignorant or stupid.

It's easy to think "how horrible" but a lot of these factory town used to be farming communities that are only now becoming "industrialized".

Working with a roof over your head and without sore hands is definately an improvement.

My dad was a roofer for much of his life and I'm glad I don't have that job. I'm sure these folks are in the same boat as anyone else. Just trying to make a living one day at a time.

What kind of factory job do you have that you are so happy about? Exporitng crap labor is the evolution of business. It means we get to sit back make more money by doing less. A simple concept that seems to elude a lot of folks. We are a very rich country because of these "ain't worth a damn anymore" ideas. Never forget that.

This is starting to smell like politics... bad juju.

Well, that great American work ethic is the biggest part of the problem. Everyone thinks that they're entitled to a six-figure salary, four lunch breaks a day, full benefits, two months vacation, etc. when they're performing a necessary, though menial task. Throw unions in the mix and that's exactly why we have no manufacturing anymore and why illegals have flooded our country to take the jobs that Americans feel are beneath them. They'd rather go on welfare for generations than take a job with benefits worth thousands of dollars a year, but that only pays ten or fifteen dollars an hour.

I have respect for anyone willing to work hard for their pay, like the folks in this video. Hell, as much as they drive me carzy politically, I have an immense amount of respect for illegals. They work two jobs a day, two HARD jobs a day, and would almost prefer not to have a day off. They'd rather have the money. Americans? Please, on average you're lucky if you can get one to show up on time and put in one or two good hours of work in an eight hour shift.
