FX Saber assembly line

And the guy that broke it sounded like he was going to smack someone for having it break easy. Sorta like "Where's my money? That shouldn't happen! Does Wayne Brady have to kill a *****?"

Viewing that certainly brings up feelings or respect and appreciation for what it takes to put our "toys" together.

Cool, but where are the underage workers? I want my sabers made by small children shackled to soldering irons dammit!! :cool

If you pause it at 4:11-13 y'can clearly see its not a real Maul but just a blank tube or somat that's been pre-cut I reckon - as in, its a joke.

Other than that a fascinating insight.

Sure is surreal seeing hundreds and hundreds of lightsabers all in one place. And was anyone else sort of stunned that they actually assemble the BOX by hand? :eek

I was stunned to see the boxes assembled by hand!

Seeing the LCD sheets printed was pretty cool. Man is that a ton of FXes...

I was stunned that there weren't little children putting together the lightsabers... :lol

I also find it funny that soooo many people handled the lightsaber prior to me getting my grubby hands on it.. and I managed to scratch my anakin blade in the first 30 seconds by accidently hitting a lamp

I work in the electronics manufacturing industry and have been to China several times...the video and assembly methods look standard. China has the right mix of low labor cost and high tech assembly (notice the solder paste screen printer, pick and place equipment, and reflow oven). However, the volume of units coming off the line is low (relatively) that it would make economic sense to hand-fold the boxes. I'd be interested to know where the factory is located.

well I feel quite sorry for them....pay's most liklely pretty bad, and conditions and rights probably aren't much better.

I remember watching MR start out with Steve working in his basement and he and his wife boxing and mailing stuff out themselves. I see the size of that operation six years or so later and I think "Damn, somebody's making money there", but it sure wasn't Steve."

I wonder who cleaned up on that? Lucas?

That's pretty interesting. I think it will change the way I look at mine the next time I pick it up (which will probably be about five minutes from now). Now I know it's history! :)

Makes me think "$99 isn't too damned bad for this "toy"!" the next time I pick it up and light it up. :lol
