- In theory, would another option be glued sections of styrofoam (with metal armature), sculpted and then finished with an epoxy clay? Not sure you can tell from the pic but all those little pieces of foam I keep adding are basically the skeleton for the clay foam. It helps it keep it shape cause clay foam likes to sag and deflate while drying. If I did the whole tail out of Apoxie clay it would be WAY too heavy.
yea you can do an outer layer of apoxie clay on top of lighter filler. That is how I did the hands. If the tail doesn't look right after the clay foam I still might have to do that.- In theory, would another option be glued sections of styrofoam (with metal armature), sculpted and then finished with an epoxy clay?
Gonna have to do apoxie clay over the clay foam... the clay foam just isn't giving me the detail I want... sucks cause all this just adds weight and time..- In theory, would another option be glued sections of styrofoam (with metal armature), sculpted and then finished with an epoxy clay?
-That is too bad. Hope the Apoxie will be thick/strong enough to not crack over time as the foam flexes. There isn't a flexible epoxy clay is there?Gonna have to do apoxie clay over the clay foam... the clay foam just isn't giving me the detail I want... sucks cause all this just adds weight and time..

I could do that when it's done.. I have been trying a different technique where I am putting only a thin layer of clay foam.. that wasn't my origianl plan I wanted to have more to sculpt with but I wanted to see what it would look like... seems better than the saggy mess of putting it on thicker.Wonderful workmanshipAre you going to weigh the tail? Would be interesting to know

-I'd buy that for a dollar!Long way to go... lots of clean up, sanding, touchups.. final details... but you get the idea...
