Fight Club Tyler Durden T-shirts?

Having said all of that, I have a ton of respect for all of the people here who have brought information forward and offered their services to the community. I, in every way, support the proliferation of this information, these ideas, and the effort that everyone here has offered. I am constantly impressed by what this community has uncovered and what we continue to find out about all of this. It shows a ton of determination and dedication and I thank everyone here for playing their part in it.

Ditto:cheers

I agree. But with collectors it's different. They are collectors. If I found a rare piece, I would get it to soul for accurate replication and then is sell it to fund my purchases from fatal5150. That's it. But collectors want these rare pieces for their "collection" and if everyone is out their searching the same pieces, then it hurts the chances of that collector to grab the piece that it's taken them years to identify. The motoshirt, I mean you guys are talking about a piece that is worth a lot to a lot of people.

First, let's get one thing straight, this entire thread resembles nothing of Tyler Durden! LOL. He would slap the lot of us for our behavior. Spending money on rare vintage items, making replicas and selling them, trying to look like him. Let's be honest with ourselves. None of us are trying to hit bottom here. :D

And Shpongled, please understand, for the collectors who have put in so much dedication and time on research and endless hours of searching for these vintage items, it's like a treasure hunt for us. It makes no sense to divulge ALL information. It just creates more competition and makes it even harder to find these impossibly rare pieces. I've even gotten into a bidding wars before with iamjwpc because we were both looking for the same thing at the same time. A shirt that could have cost either of us maybe $20 ended up costing one of us almost $400! Because we are both collectors, and that's fair. You win some, you lose some. Now if it was only exclusive to our little community, that's one thing to consider, and it can be a helpful exchange of information sometimes, but you have to know there are hundreds of lurkers that come to this site without posting a thing, without contributing to the community. This thread has already received over 375,000 views! Imagine if I had to bid against even 10 people to acquire some of the things I've found. I would be outbid every time because I'm on a budget and I can't afford $10,000 for a shirt. Everything would become unaffordable for me and then there would be no accurate replicas. Try to look at it from a treasure hunters point of view, that's all I'm asking you to consider.

I'll also add that all the major FC collectors that I've come across over the past few years have contributed a great deal to the FC community, and much of the time that's through emails and PMs dating all the way back to the prime of the Fight Club OpticsPlanet and filmjackets threads.

Fair enough. Though I think what you're doing is different from what I was trying to convey above. You are using what you have collected to share it with the rest of us which is really just awesome.

Apologies If I offended anyone, that was not my intention.

edit: Just wanted to add on that what I was saying is not directed at anyone here. Pretty much all of the serious collectors here have contributed a great amount and helped me out personally. My thanks and respect for all of you remains true.

Cheers!

Believe me, I haven't divulged everything. I gotta play much of this close to the vest, as do others. And as for the replicas, I stand on the shoulders of giants!

Honestly, I didn't mind divulging info to anyone, but now I really do feel like crap doing it, if it means I'm going to get in the way of these guys getting their treasures. I'm no collector. I'll never be a collector. I can't spend the money these guys spend. My gf would kill me. If I could I probably would. I'd spend it without a care in the world. I'd have a logan jacket and id have 1998 op523. But since I can't, I'll just make it my goal that if I was lucky enough to come across one of these treasures I'd probably sell them or trade it for something more valuable.

Well the muslin came today. No shoulder pads in it. He also sent a leather sample and lining sample. I think the leather you picked, AJ, is the exact same he uses on the Mayhem jackets. I was kind of hoping this jacket would be darker than the Mayhem, but looking at the sheet of samples he sent you, I can't really see any of the other ones looking quite right. So I think I might just stick with this one anyway. Excited to see what the tapering looks like! I'm going to hold off on confirming the sample for tonight and give it some thought until tomorrow to decide what I want to do, but I thought that was interesting. I guess I'll probably have two very red jackets. :D

It shouldn't be it was similar to the screen one. I am not home yet to try the muslin. Won't be for another 6 hours. It looks the same red as your mayhem
jacket?

It is the big leather I am touching. It shouldn't match the mayhem at all. It was darker

I mean the screen button down is definitely red depending on the lighting. Outdoors it does look very red you can see Brad with it at times.

Yep, it's the same exact sample, he just cut the bottom corner off and sent it to me. If it's not the exact same leather as the Mayhem he made me, it's extremely close. So close that I doubt most people would be able to notice. It's also extremely soft and buttery like the leather on my Mayhem. It's lovely leather, really great stuff.

Check it out:

You can see how similar it is. My girlfriend confirmed that she thought it was the same leather too. In person they look even closer. The pictures make it look like maybe they are SLIGHTLY different, I'm not sure. In this lighting they both looks fairly orange-ish even. But they can get pretty dark, especially outside at night I'm sure.

From your pictures the Mayhem does look brighter, but only by one or two shades. Is that about right? They look really similar in color in the pics you posted – definitely different, but quite similar – but I'm curious to hear if that sounds correct to you.

That said, the truth is probably that the stock leather he uses for both jackets is too dark. But having said that, I'm not sure I'd WANT my Mayhem brighter. It's very bold as it is. Maybe.

I'm not sure though, none of those other 4 samples really looks correct in terms of suppleness, texture and color. It's hard to tell from photos though.

The screen jacket does have a slight orange to it. Hard to capture in the pictures I took but I made a note of that in my first visit I posted that on the forum. The mayhem jacket is definitely only a shade or two lighter then the screen jacket. The lighting is slightly different where the jacket is vs the mayhem jacket. I did in fact hold the leather as close up to the jacket and it matched nearly exact if not exact. In fact, i got yelled at for being too close but by that piint I got what I needed.

The leathers do vary based in color based on the light. In fact look at the photo of brad here and how red the jacket is.

Is your mayhem leather a different leather then the default he uses? Is it lambskin?

Yes it's lambskin. It's currently the default Mayhem leather. You can see the grain is even similar. But regardless, I think it is a great choice for the FC1. It works well on the Mayhem too.

I created these by putting them through a 7 step process:

The raw wooden buttons come from a professional US carpenter, (not made by the millions in China).

But they only have 2 holes instead of 4, so the first step was to drill the additional holes.

I did this by first marking them out with a pencil.

Then I brush stained each one. Like snow flakes, no two look the same.

After the first coat of stain.

Then I marked out the broken button. I tried to get it to match the screen used as close as possible.

F.jpg

I used an x-acto knife and dremel cut-off wheel to get it to shape.

G.jpg

Then I caked it in saw dust and other fine particles to give them that authentic aged/weathered look.

Finally I use a premium clear gloss enamel spray to lock everything in place for durability.

The final product! What do you guys think?

And here is what I was trying to match for reference:

Seriously. You're the man. I'm as anxious to see your jacket replica as I am to see AJ's new logan jacket. :D

I like these. I was trying to get tortoise shell for my JAL last year when I got my second one made. But JAL offered me the normal ones and I took them. Soul, would it be possible to get unbroken ones?
