Fight Club Tyler Durden T-shirts?

Cool jacket! Did someone say Reed sportswear was the maker of the vintage jacket Kaplan found and modified?
Yes! That's what made me search for it. Here's what it looks like on:

Cool meeting AJ last night, really cool dude Also a treat seeing his JAL durden jacket up close.. Great quality.

So I was thinking...if we could get enough people together who wanted Oliver Peoples to do another reissue to sign a petition, I think they'd do it. We'd need to present it to Oliver Peoples corporate office. Could you imagine if they made the frames in the original alloy with the correct lenses! Epic! Or better yet, what if they released a Fight Club set with the Aero and Sunset! They might go for it. There would be a lot of money to be made.

Ill sign a petition. I want all of Tyler Durden's shades.

Heres my prop soap and op 523's

Hahaha! Great pic man

Im starting to feel like the only one without a real pair of OP's

I don't know if it's just me but I think photos of people wearing the clothes/accessories look better than just photos of the items themselves.
I think it's because when you see some one wearing them they always put extra effort into the Tyler look. (if that makes sense)
Like one of Tyler's jackets hanging open on someone looks bad ass than just on a hanger

I now know the exact differences between the vintage OP-523 and the newer re-release op-523's.. OK: The old vintage frames were made in metal alloy and were a different finish. They also had the size on the bridge. The newer frames didn't have the size on the bridge. Also, the old frames just said OP-523, and the new frames say OP-523 Ti, which stands for Titanium. Also, the old frames had the op logo, op-523 model number, and size, and every other writing on the frame, IMPRINTED onto the frame. The new frames had the logos and model information placed on with sticker or paint or something else. Anyone with the new blood red op-523 can vouch for that. So all of you go ahead and check your frames and let us know and we'll all figure out what frames we have.

Last update: The original op-523's had the size on the bridge, the re-releases in Titanium had the size on the left leg.

Thanks bro. I agree its great seeing people wearing threads of such a great character in a film.
More on here shouldn't hold back lets see how cool you look.
There are shades up on ebay, try and haggle. I don't see people spending a grand on them thats bullcrap to charge that much.
I can understand double store price to make a profit but to horde all this stuff for that amount of money isn't cool.
Excellent shades Danman!

I've owned several pairs of OP-523's from the 2009 re-release, that were all purchased directly from Oliver Peoples. First of all, if the frame says "Ti" on it, they're not authentic. I bought six pairs, and none of them had "Ti" on the frame. As a matter of fact, the Oliver Peoples website never mentioned anything about titanium frames; that was something that popped up on eBay from sellers offering a special "re-release from Japan." Also, the frame size, logo, etc. were engraved onto the frame. If you saw a pair that was put on by a sticker or paint, they're likewise not authentic. Unfortunately, there are some really convincing knockoffs floating around.

there have been several recreations of the OP-523, here and oversees through their Japanese manufacturing plants. None of them are fakes. There are a few differences. The first that I remember, the first I PURCHASED, were in 2001, and they had the size and all logos engraved onto the frame. Also, The size was engraved onto the bridge. Then I saw another OP-523 with the logos still ENGRAVED, but the size was removed from the bridge, and placed on the arm. Then later, which is what is mostly seen now, are the size and logos stickered or painted onto the frame. Maybe to cut cost. Also, the frame is in titanium. Now I'm a bit confused. EITHER THE original frames were made in titanium or metal alloy, and the rereleases were made in metal alloy or titanium. I don't recall now. What is a fact, is that the metal did change. Guaranteed. My 2001 frames were way different then the 2009 blood red lenses which I later sold. I think mostly what youre seeing now are frames being manufactured through their Japanese manufacturing plant, and OP is still getting their cut but not admitting to it. What you guys don't understand, is that no matter how popular or liked the op-523 is, OP in the us will not continue to release them. They are not like Rayban which releases their aviator 3025 and Wayfarer until the end of time. It's like when celebs go oversees to make commercials that aren't released in the us. My belief is that OP is still being manufactured oversees and sold. OP gets their cut, but they can stay away from the hype of manufacturing here in the US. Look at the three different OP-523's and you'll see. None are fake, just made differently.

DAYWALKER, the reason the 2009 rerelease didn't say TITANIUM on them is because they were made in the METAL ALLOY.. So I guess we were wrong about that. The originals mustve been made in the titanium finish. Either way, every one who knows about op-523 knows that they were made in two different metals. fiche-op-523.jpg

TITANIUM is a high-strength, lightweight material commonly used in everything from hubcaps to eyewear. Because titanium ranks seventh in abundance among industry elements in the earth's crust, it is easily accessible. This material has picked up speed in the eyewear industry as a lightweight option that lends itself to unique designs and colorations.
Pros: Titanium is as strong as steel, lightweight, hypoallergenic, and corrosion-resistant.
Cons: This material is more expensive than other materials. Beware of the difference between "pure titanium" and "titanium alloy

Ok here is the update I have from Oliver Peoples. I have good news and bad news and some interesting news. The bad news is my contact is retired. He did the lens for Mr and Mrs Smith the shooter yellow and I have those in a Pharrel 61. The new guy, he is not exactly new he has been around a while too, is putting those lens in one of my nitros for me. The other nitro I asked him to put the 2009 blood red in. Interesting enough, the blood red was suppose to be exclusive to 523 only but this is being done for me.

Now for question wise, I did not get many answers. Brad pitt's aero lens were custom made. There is no color association. In fact he says that a lot of celebrities buy OP strictly for custom lenses and to wear indoors or to events. They do keep files but he does not have Brad's file. He did pull up all my files since I buy at that store which has the lenses I have bought and the frames I have bought.

The 2009 blood red is the actual color but darker from the movie. They did this because it would be more wearable and that it made it easier to see. It simply came down to attempting to give the wearer more visibility. The good news is I showed him what I wanted, the original lens, and my 523 are being fitted with the original red lens from the movie in the lighter color red. This will not be a pink or orange it is the real deal.

The other bad news I have is OP has a policy now due to resellers that custom lens are for one frame one time only. Proof of purchase is required. I had asked for 3 copies of the real 523 lens but I could only get one due to thus policy. The good news though is custom lenses are now 50$ down from 100$.

Oliver Peoples will keep a hand written and electronic file showing if you have gotten your one time custom lenses and which store you bought the frame from. Essentially, this means that people that bought online may have trouble obtaining custom lenses though I am sure there are workarounds. IE like saying you got them as a birthday present but it still comes out to a one time deal.

My oliver peoples 523 movie red lenses are now on my file which should be available to be copied so now we have mine which will be a true original and exactly like the movie. They should arrive in a week I was told when they come in pictures will be posted.

Ps: gothic rose is a myth. The movie lenses were pure custom.

Btw I typed this at the airport from my iphone so if there is any bad grammar or mispells that is why.

Thanks AJ. Yeah, I pretty much knew the screen used were custom made for the character. Gothic rose was a real lense color OP had before but it wasn't the one made for the movie. It is also evident that the blood red was the same color just way darker.
