The ones on the top are the originals last made probably in 2000 or 2001. The one on the bottom is the titanium reissue. I don't know why. I think maybe because of cost. I know I purchased the 2000 model in early 2001 and sold them in Iike 2007 or 2008 and they never tarnished. Scratches of course but not tarnishing. When you go to op, speak to them and have them confirm it for you. My originals were way lighter then the 2009 rerelease I owned them both. Wish I would've never sold my coral lense originals lol

All good information. I can actually compile a list of questions for Oliver Peoples and ask them. I will post it here. Finishing up at the gym will write it tonight and if people want to add or whatever I can do a QA with them.

I recently noticed how small Brad Pitt's leather jacket in the film fit on him in certain scenes. Like if the jacket was intentionally made small on him. The sleeves, and shoulders were perfectly tailored, but the chest measurement, meaning the shell was very small like if the jacket wouldnt even close up, and if it did it wouldve stayed half open..

I'll bet this jacket would be a 36 or 38 regular or long. Definitely no more then a size 40. Considering Pitt weighed no more then 160 in this, I'd say a small or tight medium..

The OP-523's from 2000 had a shinier frame. The titanium was just a touch more matte in appearance. I had both side by side at one time, and you could see the difference. I had the screen accurate lenses and sold them like a fool. Like you, Danman, I wish I had kept them!

Yeah man.. Big regret. That Coral color I had was awesome, and when I later purchased the Titanium Blood red frames, I was disappointed at how different the frame was.. It just didnt have the finish like the original, and they were heavier and didn't fit as comfortable.

Ok so compiling a small list of questions for Oliver Peoples, feel free to add any questions you want asked and I will try and get the answer from them:

1) Why did they change the 2000 release and the 2009 release of the Oliver Peoples 523 frame?

2) Are 523 still sold in Japan?

3) What color lens did Brad Pitt use exactly in the 523, Aero, and Sunset?

4) What exactly is Gothic Rose? Why was it changed?

5) Are polarized Burnt orange lens possible to make for Aeros?

Try and ask if anyone there would be willing to help you out by giving you an email or try contacting someone who worked for op during the production of the film. See if they can provide you with any old catalogs which will sow lense colors. Supposedly you could choose the color of your lenses, and the 523's were in stock, sold with tangerine lenses.

Let us know what they say AJ, cause I'd love to know if they can recreate something close to the burnt orange color. I'd love the color that SOUL has on his aeros. I'd love the sunset and op-523 in that color.

there was a member that had a pair with no markings, or the "Sunset" name was on the wrong leg or something, I don't remember. so I guess there are some that are fake. I bought mine before the fakes came to market, mine also has the frame size on the nose bridge. If they don't they're probably not original.

Man, a couple years after the movie came out, I spoke to Oliver Peoples in LA, and they looked up the color of the three frames and the lenses used in each. I had each made. According to their files, the Aero and Sunset both were silver with a "persimmon" lens, as they told me way back then. I don't think that was the actual name of the color, but that was how he described it to me. It was like a burnt orange. I ended up selling my Aero and Sunset frames, because they weren't very flattering on me.

I'm 5'10 and I weigh 140 and I have a leather jacket thats a size 38 and its snug.
A 40 is comfortable for me.
I gained weight years ago working out, 20 pounds and a 40 was snug.
I think his jacket is a 40/42 because when he walks its not skin tight to him its boxy and lose.
