Face off season 4

Oh man, one thing this episode did show was the difference between the sketches done by contestants and the sketches done by the artist. Anthony's paint scheme came out way different than what the artist thought would happen. I thought that was pretty funny. Also, what have the industry guys said about the lackeys running the molds? Cos house's foam was riddled with issues. Granted, I think the spine should've been a separate or even manufactured part, but still.

its not uncommon to get a bad run..even in the most professional shop.. with careful planning, you just make the adjustment and run the mold again. time constraints would not allow for multiple runs on this show. the contestants understand before hand that what they get is what they get. Didnt you notice the whole start of day 2 ( or three ..i forget) when Eric comes in and talks about steam damage to his piece. Funny how he walked in at the beginning of the day and noticed his piece already run ..and demolded. The show is almost not even hiding the fact that they dont run thier own foam anymore. Honestly ..as far as "real Life" goes, this is fine by me ..the sculptor at a shop probably wouldnt run his own foam anyways ..its just that the show likes to pretend that they do everything. Rumor is that this season they are given even more time to accomplish goals then previous seasons

Well, that's a more general problem I have with it, from my incredibly limited experience by watching the WETA vlogs. These guys are doing almost every job on their own, together, when in reality your concept guy is separate from your sculptor who's separate from your painter and your prop guys. While that makes sense for a webseries or a low budget film, it's not "Hollywood movie magic" as they claim it to be. It would be interesting to see a version where you start with 14 teams instead of 14 individuals, and show all of the tasks that go into it through the team format.

its purely a time factor in some cases ..also a skill factor ..there are just some great mold makers out there ..there are one or two names passed from shop to shop on amazing foam runners..etc. not very uncommon to specialize in a single task

Anyone else see some similarities here:

Loved Anthony's work and I'm glad he won. I would've also been happy had they given it to Wayne.

@Firesprite, when I saw that costume I thought about the seaweed people from Creepshow, but I also see what your talking about!

I don't see anything at all regarding Face Off in the 2013 posts that are visible. Do we need to be friends with him?

I don't see anything either. Just picture updates and "is now friend with". So I will just have to take their word for it.

I think Meagan got screwed last week. Sure, she didn't express what she was trying to do very well and seem a bit confused herself. But they should have given her an extra half day. The time constraints are totally arbitrary so it's not like they would be giving her more time than the other contestants. Would it have helped? I dunno.

Is it just me, or does anyone else hate tacked-on costumes on the more fantasy-type characters. I mean, I hate seeing plastic leaves covering the crotch and ass areas. I know it helps since they don't have to do additional sculpting, but I seeing something like a lizard or bestial creature wearing pants just rubs me the wrong way.

Are they not allowed to sculpt a stylized animal sheath or something due to TV censorship rules? :lol:lol:lol:lol

That is a good point. When that one contestants' model passed out she got more time.

On the second day they could have let her stay a bit longer instead of leaving like everyone else. Then she would have still gotten to show her character with everyone else.

well ..on an actual production, you wont ever have the luxury of saying "sorry your monster isnt done in time ..i got sick". However if your creature suit actor passes out on set ..they'll make the time.

But this isn't an actual production, the time constraints are artificial unless they have to leave so the night crew can do their job.

Come to think of it, it might be interesting to see what would happen if one day as the "twist" the host came out and said something like you did and told them they had to stop early as they all were suddenly sick.

the night crew does come in ..ha ..I only make that point because the judges adhere to that standard when they make their critiques. they often mention how it would be on set. In reality, there isnt much "real" to the way they are doing things these days. Im hearing of some potential changes next season, but only time will tell. Seems as if this season they have the audience right where they want them.

here is a small snippit of Steve johnsons thread.. there are 143 comments that are hilarious ( including John Vulich ..founder of Optic Nerve) I took a pic of them of my iphone app ..wish i could show the whole thing. check out Autumn try and make excuses ..then check out Steve's response

for reference, MacKenzie Westmore's response in the middle of this thread was "Wow".

Or just be completely 'smooth'

you probably cant read anything if you arent "friends" with Steve Johnson. parts of his profile are probably private.

Which is perfectly reasonable given the kind of people he's friends with. Thanks for posting those screen captures o we can see what was so funny without invading Steve's privacy.

ha ..Steve is actually a pretty open book and unapologetic about his views..but in a very humorous way
