DST WOK PHASER... Who got theirs?!?

I'll give you the too many screws, but oversized?
Playmates make something oversized? Do you own any Playmates stuff?
Okay I'll give you the cricket phaser, and the TNG electronic communicators (series and Generations versions). The TOS phaser is disproportioned but not really oversized.
Everything else is undersized.
And I definitely would have owned that phaser rifle!
Back to topic (sort of)
The TMP phaser had three lights in three of the four squares on the left of the control panel. Two red and one green (between the two red). They alternately flashed red or green with the red ones coming on at the same time.
I gave mine a repaint with a light blue/gray car paint:

The Playmates Bajorian tricorder is said to be almost dead-on accurate. Although that's it. That's the only one they got close. Everything else was the wrong size, some larger and some smaller, or disproportioned in some other way. It's like they made their versions by looking at photos only with no size references, so they guestimated just about everything. But, more than likely, it was because of Paramount. Paramount had different management then, so they probably wanted stuff that wouldn't compete with any possible high-end replicas they wished to license. It's like how they used to mandate TOS phaser replicas had to strictly adhere to the black-light grey-black color scheme.
Guys... we are NOT going to start arguing over the accuracy of Playmates toys. :lol
All right fine, maybe the Playmates phaser rifle would have been a perfect replica. Point taken.
But as to all the prop-toys that Playmates actually did produce, and with the exception of the TMP phaser (I don't know about any of the Bajoran stuff, I never owned any of it), I don't think the items were particularly accurate. The TOS tricorder was absurdly small. The First Contact phaser was too large. The Trek 5 Assault phaser was too small. The McCoy TOS medical scanner was way too big. The TOS communicator was wonky in a number of ways. The TOS phaser was a reasonable replica - of a Mark English fake. :lol
So let's just call it a draw and say that there would have been something wrong with a Playmates TNG rifle and leave it at that. :rolleyes

The TMP was oversized as I recall, though, so it too was inaccurate. I wasn't arguing whether or not the phaser rifle would have been good or not. I was just trying to come up with a reason why they were all weird in one way or another. I think the Bajoran tricorder being accurate was just a fluke. Detail was nice on most of the pieces, though. Just badly proportioned. It's good that DST is able to get their replicas closer in both size and detail to original props.
Although the AA Enterprise phase pistol was slightly undersized as well. The Trek Tek line is continually evolving, for the better, and that is a great thing to see. Add some die-cast metal parts and/or bodies and they would be at the same level as an MR release. Perhaps that will be the next evolution.

Final note from me about the Playmates line- it would seem that things like weapons were undersized on purpose, I believe to fit kid-sized hands (Cage laser, Klingon disruptor etc). And items that should have been "small" like McCoy's medical instruments and the cricket phaser were blown out of proportion so as to be appealing maybe? What kid would want an accurate sized cricket phaser? :lol
Anyway AA/DST has definitely pandered to the "adult collector". :thumbsup

Well, yes of course I have. I owned both the Type 1 and 2 phasers from TNG (The oversized cricket was a riot) and the klingon disruptor (my favorite). The recent Playmates toys for the new Trek movie are utter crap in comparison.

Aside from the fact that the dummy phaser has a bacward sticker I noticed two other things
1. It seems to be missing the crystal on teh back
2. EXTREMELY pronounced separation line between the P1 and P2 reminiscent of the dummy turned in to a TWOK hero on display in Paul Allens collection.

Which is the weirdest thing. They took several steps backwars even from their own work over a decade ago. I can't believe that, with DST/AA putting out the level of product that they do, that Playmates would not have put forth more effort in their role-play toys. To go backwards after the bar has been raised is unforgiveable. The least they could have done was matched their previous quality even if they couldn't match DST's.

Got mine late last night, after a long story and have been messing with it today...
Looks like the one in the movies to me! Understand, all I know is photos, the Playmates and the old South Bend. This seems more streamlined, and more "right" than the ol' playmates (which I know Ain't right).
Got Pinky Divots on both sides! Shallower that what appears on the photos, in my opinion, but they're there, one is obscured by plugs.
The corners MAY be sharper, but don't look as such on the actual toy. Don't know if it was a photoshop deal, or prototype photos, but I'm not bothered with it. It's smaller than the playmates (only thing I have to compare it TO) which seems "right".
IF you choose to rub the refractive tape down, Watch it! Use something Dull to scribe it down! (Should you choose to!) I made the mistake of using my thumbnail for one section & got something I didn't like! There IS A SEAM THERE!
Got little quibbles with the red lights, & the flashing on/off, but maybe it's a power thing.
I went for the "opener" deal from Rick at New Force and expected a crushed box or something, but as far as my untrained eye could see, nothing was wrong with the box, all the tabs and tapes were in place, and it looked new to me. Of course I was gonna rip it open and use the thing! My old dog hates it so far!
Now, I just found out, if you have the whole PII assembly together, do the overload procedure, and DON'T hit any triggers, pluck the PI off, and you have a fine low beam flashlight. You can't turn it off till you put it back in the PII, but all the lights, including the red emitters, are activated.
This was a DEAL for under $30!

Does anyone know what color these would be classified as? In an attempt to remove the plugs in the pistol grip, they were damaged.:eek The plugs are about 1/4 -1/2 long and don't come out easy. However after attempting to remove them I went past the point of know return and have 2 pulled out. I'd like to match it if possible and redo them until a later time when I do a total repaint.
I call it "Titanium" because it seems like the same color as my watch band, which is titanium.

Strange, mine turns off when I remove the P1. But the P1 can be put in overload mode too, turn it on with the setting button, then press the setting and trigger buttons. And any mode will turn off after a minute or so of non use.
I love it! I got the "opener" deal from Newforce, box looked fine and I got a great price. The color looks like champaign gold, not sure where they got the color from. It looks nice, but I think some Duplicolor metallic blue is in order.
I don't care for the P1 attachment sound. I may ID which pin triggers that sound and cut the wire, maybe. But overall it's a great piece, I just can't put it down :lol
