DST WOK PHASER... Who got theirs?!?

Deforest Kelley on the other hand, presses the HIGHEST setting, and all four of his lights start chasing (actually chasing, not the 1-2-3-4-all lit thing that the DST does...)

That's also the scene where I mentioned earlier where he appears to shoot Kirk in the back. You can see that the emitter is lit up. :eek

I've looked through the thread but are any of these TWOK or TMP phasers available at any Walmart, ToysRUs, Target, etc?

I know my ToysRUs sometimes has the AA stuff. I have seen the Comm and Tric there. I have not seen the WOK Phaser yet. Comic shops would be your best bet. But I have to say, I ordered mine from New Force Comics on the morning of Wednesday the 28th and it came in the afternoon on the 30th. Tha't pretty quick shipping!

This one makes me want to cancel my (backordered) TMP Phaser from EE. What are the differences between the two releases? Does anyone know?

From the looks of the EE edition, there are quite a few differences to consider.

From observation:
- The trigger will not have a tiny cylinder shape bud on it and instead be just a smooth surface. That's +1 for me.
- The lights will be multi colored and will be generated through the square shaped read read out instead of a hole made in the square.
- The sound 'may' be different.
- The coloring scheme will be a much blue/gray color instead of a metallic color.

Thats how I see it at least. I'm simply getting it for it's smooth trigger surface. It'd be awesome if you could be able to take the type 1 from TWOK phaser over to this one. :love

I think there will be enough differences between the two for me to buy both. Granted they are basicaly the same thing so you have to be a fan of both to want both. If you just want a "phaser" then I would go for the currently available WOK model. I like modifying them so I will have both and probably several of each in the end. With a few simple mods to the WOK phaser like new tape and painting the LEDs on top makes it even cooler(?).:)

The ONLY chance of seeing this in a retail location (other than your local hobby/comic book store) MAY be Toys R Us, as they carry AA stuff from time to time, but after speaking to one of their marketing guys, it seems that other than the current AA stuff that they carry (the WOK is not one of them), when they sell out, they will not carry any more.
It seems that the small hobby stores were very upset that anyone could just run down to any TRU and buy Diamond products for cheaper, thus cutting into their business, so no more (new) AA stuff for TRU.
As someone who used to own a hobby shop, I can completely understand this. Granted, it's not as convienient or as economical, but it helps out the little guy stay open so that you have a place to hang out.

I just want you all to know, I'm jealous of you right now! I pre-ordered mine from my comic shop LAST FALL, when it was in Previews and was supposed to ship in December of '08! And yet, the owner of the comic shop I go to STILL hasn't received his shipment from Diamond! :angry

He's had to check on that this week, since other shops have been getting them for a couple weeks now. All Diamond is telling him is that his should be shipping to him "soon". At this rate, I'll probably receive my Entertainment Earth Exclusive TMP Phasers BEFORE I get the Wrath of Khan one! Don't you just love Diamond Distribution? :rolleyes

Here's a picture of the TMP Phaser:

Compare that to the pictures of the WOK phaser and you should be able to see the differences quite easily.

I am a little disappointed that DST/AA didn't change MORE features on the TMP one to make it even MORE accurate. I wish it had the black "butt plate", for one thing. I always liked the way that looks. :cool

Actually both the TMP and the WOK phasers had a buttplate. See the pic of the WOK phaser in the Seattle museum. The TMP plate sticks out in back, the WOK plate is flush (and seems thicker).

You could add this easily to your phaser with styrene. Plus it would cover up the copyright information on the DST. :)

If the final is like that prototype photo, they included the holotape down the sizes as in the WOK version. That is incorrect and should be removed.

Nice that they sunk the lights below the clear plastic on the control panel and removed the engraved rectangle below the trigger. They even got the "two dots" (rather than white equals sign) detail right.

But it looks like the "side rails" don't wrap all the way around the front of the phaser. And if that "plain dark gray" color is what they intend to make it, that will be disappointing.

But out of the box, the DST TMP looks to be more accurate to the movie prop, than the WOK vesrion is. The "two triggers" thing on the WOK version really bugs me (the big wraparound shield-shaped trigger should not be there, since the little cylinder part is the actual trigger; the prop does not even have the seam line).

Do most agree that the WOK was a light metalic bluish gray on the actual prop? Or was it a metalic grey and appeared blue-ish on film? Pictures can lie so easily on real colors due to lighting, exposure, etc.

As I recall the WOK prop was a metallic bluish gray when I saw it in person. Perhaps fairer to call it "cool gray".

Starlog magazine famously said the TMP phasers were "BMW Anthracite Gray".

The manual for the HMS kit sold by Roddenberry.com, says the TMP phaser was "Dove Gray", but the modern equivalent is Krylon Stone Gray 1306 (this was the color for the early TNG props as well, which were also dusted with silver).

HMS says the WOK phaser is Plastikote Light Metallic Blue 1348.

Maybe now that the Seattle Science FIction Museum has relaxed its no-photo policy, we'll see some better documentation.

In the meantime I did a quick search on Flickr, and this was the best shot I found on the WOK phaser

You can see that the WOK looks markedly more blue than the others. The Dustbuster phasers (if authentic) would be Dove Gray.

Great picture phase pistol. I will hit the auto parts store this weekend. Since I'm going to do a repaint I'm going to add the bottom plate and mod the trigger as well.

I only took the picture, I did not take it. :sleep

I mean, I only swiped the picture, I did not expose it with the camera and the pixels and the thing. :$

And it would appear that 1348 is OOP. I did an ebay search as well and turned up nothing. It may have to be a "close enough" repaint. :unsure I'll keep searching for it though.

For entertainment purposes I enhanced the guy's phaser pictures so you can see the comparison better.

There also appears to be two screws on the bottom plate and maybe a switch or a hole as well. The P1 is definately glued on.

Love the dustbusters. That was my first prop. Bought at a convention back in the early nineties. It was solid resin, prepainted and I paid $200 for that hunk!:lol
