Anyone else doing a bloody version of the jacket for Halloween? I bought mine for $7 at Goodwill so I figured I might as well, heh.
I know they used cow blood for the movie costume but I'm concerned about cleanliness and smell. So far the fake blood you can find at a Halloween store is not giving me good results (it dries to a translucent pink). Anyone have tips for a good blood splatter substitute?

the blood shouldn't smell but it may dry and flake mostly off and leave a more brown oil-like stain. My only experience is with deer blood but I'd imagine it would be similar. I guess it depends on the fabric you use it on. Deer blood makes me itch though and I know people can have immune reactions to other blood over a long exposure. I know they use corn syrup to get a certain consistency so perhaps mix some with a red dye and try that. There may be way better info on the matter at places like Instructables

i really wanted one for halloween but those jackets you order arent avail til november... uh how am i gonna wear this after halloween?
it looks like the jacket's inside out, and it's got a frickin scorpion on the back.
but anyways, i know i didnt get all the details right namely black cuffs and i didnt want to sew that flap that the arms come out of on the sides bc it was gonna be too much work but hey! it's diamond-quilted!!
also the scorpion is suede, but hey close enough.
only one problem: no one has seen this movie!! let me play you the transcript from every conversation im gonna have saturday night.
[hot girl walks up in sexy nurse/bunny/angel/bumble bee costume]
girl: what are you supposed to be?
me: uhh, the driver from drive. have you seen the movie?
girl: no.
me: [singing] a real human being, and a real herooo....
[girl walks away]
me: damn i shouldve made a tron costume.
enjoy! and happy halloween... hey if anyone else is in dallas the jacket will make an appearance at the explosions in the sky concert tonight

Try this stuff. It's made to spray onto fabrics.
I used it on this zombie hunter costume. Worked really well to give that splattered look.

I feel ya on how people might react to our costumes. I've been having mixed reviews on it, lol. Hopefully downtown Denver will hold more people who've seen Drive than my place of work! :unsure

Thanks for the info, Gasahol. Sounds like animal blood will make a decent backup option.

Hey guys. I got another reply from Steady after asking some questions about stitching and photos.
"I mentioned it to our web team on getting more pictures. Our sample of the jacket is currently with the Film District but we will be getting it back next week. Everything is exactly the same but the stitching is under the scorpion. We had to buy the fabric…get it quilted…then embroider the backs…then assemble the jacket. It would have cost a lot more if we quilted over each scorpion. Hope you understand. "

It was only like 3-5 bucks a can. I found it at one of the local seasonal Halloween stores that pop up every late September. If you google it, that's where I found the pic and it was listed for like 4 bucks.
Just Google "Fake Blood Spray". It should pop right up.

Well, my Halloween weekend officially started last night and it's the best one yet. Now, I must start by saying, please save all of your comments regarding the inaccuracies of the costume, as I know them well. Besides, it's FN Halloween and my costume is pretty damn awesome as is, I almost won the costume contest last night if it wasn't for the likely late crowd who just hasn't seen the movie. So, if anyone needs a costume NEXT year when this costume can be purchased at any Halloween store, let me know if you want this one after Monday. I do have 4 more parties to attend this whole weekend, so I think I may be able to clinch at least one win.
Now, the black (not brown) gloves and ball-peen (not claw) hammer, I borrowed from a mechanic of course. The beige (not white) henley shirt, glasses, and brown (not grey or cap toe) Stacy Adams, I bought at Goodwill for under $15 total. I'm wearing black denim jeans and chose the black trimming on the jacket just because it was available. The blood and blonde hair spray dye, I found at a halloween shop. I went with the bloody face taken from the bathroom scene where Driver stabs the man with the curtain rod revealing his better, darker side. I would have preferred the handsome guy mask, but gave that up when I realized I could cover up my face with blood instead. The hardest of all to find was that damn rabbit's foot, not so lucky. The jacket was made from scratch by my GF, "Irene". Now, unfortunately it was based off a bomber jacket pattern, and does not include gussets or pockets. Today the jacket was taken apart, gussets were added, the sleeves and body have been taken in to give it the slimmer-racing jacket look. I couldn't be happier considering the time & money spent which was minimal. Below is a link to the Drive Movie Facebook Halloween Costume Album where the third photo is shown, I'll consider that a win! Also are the images of the look before the revisions on the jacket and shots of the jacket after some altering. I also took a shot in front of the Staples Center in DTLA where Driver drove through at the end of the opening getaway scene. Good luck everyone and Happy halloween!!!

Not perfect, but I've been mistaken for ryan gosling in real life, so i think it works. I got some insanneeee looks last night running around nyc with this on.

I've been following this thread since I saw the film come out in the begining of this month and became obsessed with the character and playing him for Halloween. I decided to create my own jacket from using the american apparel silk jacket and cutting out the scorpion from felt and hand sewing it on.
Here is how my costume turned out :
I wore a splendid waffle knit button up t-shirt and a denim vest from forever 21 underneath. The glove I procured from Buffalo Exchange for a steal and I am just wearing denim jeans and black boots.
It's going to be snowing and raining all day here in NYC so that is kind of a bummer. But I plan on rocking this costume till the death tonight.

Damn it Steady, why couldn't you have just done it SA from the first minute...Its like, the company wants to produce a "lesser" expensive version to a very limited, specified market of fans who are willing to pay a premium for screen authenticity (most of us anyway). Oh well, maybe Richard Lim will eventually come around and make custom fitted copies...

That's what I feared and that is what will make this jacket look cheap. The stitching should be going over the scorpion that's what makes it look vintage. I ordered that jacket but I think I may return it since I'm almost positive it will look cheap!

Don't all the Korean souvenir jackets look cheap? Anyways when I saw the scorpion on Goslings back I just immediately thought that it was awesome. I guess for me a detail that I didn't even notice while watching the film can't bother me.
I am however more worried about how the actual embroidering looks, like how thick it is and if they got the colors right.

It's not really a huge deal to me either, but it would be nice. I emailed her back and asked if it was a possibility to have the additional stitching put on above the scorpion to replicate the screen used jacket more accurately. I'll keep updating this thread as I get replies, hopefully with pictures as well.

Went to a huge outdoor Halloween party in Tampa last night with my hand made scorpion jacket and overall it went well. Out of a few thousand people no other Drivers. Majority of people had no idea who I was, but if they did I got 3 reactions: holy crap you made that? Looks awesome!, why no blood?, and believe it or not why didn't you wear the mask? I did have one person ask "are you Michael Jackson?" she said it was because of the gloves.

Just talked with someone who is collecting / buying and selling Korean souvenir jacket and he said that stitching should go over embroidery, not under it.

I think steady messed up this jacket big time!!! If they didn't get that part right who knows what else they screwed up but I would like to see a couple more pics from them.
