Well, after a year of much busy-ness I finally got around to (mostly) finishing up the design for a S-5000 replica. Here are some screen shots of the model and pictures of a prototype print.
My design is pin compatible with both the Holtek HT16K33 and Maxim MAX7219/MAX7221 7-segment display drivers at 5 volts per segment. It's done this way so that it's easy to drive from an Adafruit 4-Digit 7-Segment LED Matrix Display FeatherWing (Product ID: 3088) or similar. LEDs are biased for a nominal Vcc of 5V.
I'm awaiting PCBs and components, and will be printing the correct color plastic components over the weekend.
Next up is the socket. I ordered the correct pin sockets from an EU supplier, so that lead time will dictate the timing of the rest of this design.
Note that the whole design is scaled from photos (I wasn't able to get actual parts to dimension), so it's possible there are some small dimensional inaccuracies. That said, it's not by any means my first rodeo, so I'm confident it's pretty close. The entire design is parametric so if I get better data it will be pretty quick to update it.
Hope some of you find this interesting/useful.
