Bigturc's Tie Bomber thread

That's the trick I always use when I need to sand part around circular pieces. Placing sanding paper over the curve and then sand the part. I'm currently doing the same to the Harrier part, along with the Leopold long bar on the bomb tube and the 88mm square parts too.

I used the same trick to build the center box front and back plate. No ugly space between the plate and the tube!

I wanted to learn how to work with the scriber I ordered along with the kit. So I redid the cockpit frame (abs instead of acrylic this time) and even though it's not perfect, I'm happy with it.

Began playing with the wings too .. I still need to do the extensions before gluing anything .. I can see how those wing pillars can be a pain in the ass to get a proper fit on the center tubes circular parts!!!

Bigturc,
your bomber looks great so far. That pics are fantastic (y)thumbsup Top job !
Again, thank you for that great thread.

Just a small thing .. After measuring the ref from the Rodney part, I came to the conclusion the center gap between the tubes was at around 2.1 to 2.2mm on the SS Bomber while the kit as it was, would give me a 2.5mm gap.

So I beveled the center bottom plate that comes in the kit so that the tubes gets closer together and it worked perfectly .. I'm still at 2.3mm right now .. but I'll fiddle a little more with it as I might remove a tad more as long as the Leo part is nicely stuck between the tubes .. I'm fine with the rest ..

Looking great Al.
One thing with the kit & the styrene plate I guess I should have made clear to all, is that I allowed extra on the ends for builders to trim & tweak, just as your'e doing Al. Better more than less I thought, so it isn't a given that the plate is cut to the exact size.

Hey mate, I see you laid out a few kit parts for the inner wing & the discs in place also, have you tried to place the Leo part (the wedge shaped part) butted up to the bottom larger disc & behind the Karl chassis part?. I should have said it just sits in between these 2 parts really!. Be good to know it all fits Ok.
Cheers
Stu

Again, it's my pleasure Scott. I do feel like most of the work has already been done by other uses here .. and I'm only following their steps in my own build. I do have issues that I need to figure out anyway for myself and perhaps some will find that I'll make it too easy for the next builders in line? ;)

Stu .. yep, the whole inner wings has been tried and tested and every kit parts seem to fit perfectly. I'm waiting to glue the extensions first on the wings before gluing anything else permanently though as I don't want to mess up the bigger Leo parts - even though I have a couple extra cast! Don't worry mate, to this point, your kit is still flawless to my eyes!

Next part I'm working on .. the bomb.

- Bomb back has 2x Hanomag part A13 (big) with the notches facing outward.
- Bomb front has 2x Hanomag part A15 (small) with the notches facing inward.

Urgg .. I have yet to find the part sitting in the bomb top on each side of the arm!!

NOTE Hanomag A13 parts added to the Hanomag part list here

I was gonna cut the notched part that serves as a joint in the middle of the bomb .. and I noticed, in the Chronicles, the front view "seems" to show the middle part using the long notch pattern. In the attached pic, you can see what I mean.

- The back part is gonna be the rect. on the left.
- The front "Chronicles" view seems to me like I should use the rectangle cut on the bottom right with the long notch.
- In the case where its just too late and I had too much glue up my brain, I'll use the upper right rectangle cut. :confused

Al , I never noticed the difference in length before, good eye. Its so minor though that imo whichever one you use would be fine.

Thanks Ron,
Yeah .. at this point, I'm probably imagining things .. although I could imagine, if I'm right, that others would have said, hey, you just noticed something we never did .. "Thanks a lot Al .. now because of you, we're so anal that we now have to change that part on our bomber! :)" loll

loll .. well I was more interested to see if you "thought" it was the other part or if you had some higher rez pictures of it that made it clear. Unfortunately, the clearest picture I have is the one from the Chronicles, the rest is the set that everyone has from Uwe Fischer and its quite low res I must say but I do strive for accuracy where I can! :)
