Bespin Carbonite Chamber 1:6 Build

Thanks joberg!

I’ll admit, I got a little tired of staring at solidworks but seeing the Hic in physical form has given me the break/boost I needed to want to go back into it.
Keep going these are just humps in the road. I find posting my progress on here helps me keep going because I can look back and see how far I’ve come. Take a break from the tedious stuff every now and the a work on a fun bit. 6th scale is big but well worth every minute. The detail photographs so well.

You hit the nail on the head there. Being pretty new to solidworks, there’s been plenty of aggravation haha. By the way, your orca build is insane! My 6 yr old is super into jaws right now since her grandpa let her watch it so I’m seeing that boat a lot lately.

Kept the same paint scheme I did for the lifesize Hic I built last year. Pleased with how his little brother turned out… unfortunately I can’t seem to capture all the characteristics of the paint with a phone camera but oh well. The elevator platform he’s on isn’t captured well in the photos either but the same process was used where I hit it with black primer and the PhantomHue by Glidden (sold at Home Depot). I then wipe it with ip alcohol lightly then add an acrylic wash to dirty it up and add some dings and dents to it with silver acrylic. Working another solution for the control panels to make painting them easier and more precise. I’ve never painted anything this small so I’m out of my depth. The ones on him now look good enough at a glance but I’m not sold on them. Thanks for checking out the post!!

Got the control panels reprinted and painted. Unfortunately there are print lines visible on the faces so my next rendition will focus on making sure the face planes are exactly at 90 for future printing. But I’m fortunate all the parts and pieces fit perfect at this size and it helped a ton with cleaning up the paint job.

Got the lights programmed but still fine tuning. Put a capacitive touch in it to cycle through 4 different sequences. Specifically, when Han emerges from the carbonite chamber, the close up when lando turns the knob, the close up with Leia before the thaw and then during the thaw. Still need to add a switch to turn power on and off.

Designed some mounts that clip onto the surface-mount LEDs with holes for the fibers. Since they’re rgb’s the white lights vary in color… so some look green, some purple. Probably just replace the rgb.

I ended up going back and adding some more to the code and getting the timing dialed in for all the lights. I decided to leave the green led on during the Lando sequences bc I’m assuming they blocked out the panel window for shooting/lighting purposes since you can see a small hole with the green light showing through it directly above the window… plus I don’t know of a time I’d want lights on the panel to be blinking without the main green light.

Last thing for Han are the handles on the top hero panels and I’m pretty sure it’ll be a wrap on him.

Quick video going through 5 of the 6 modes.. the only mode I left out was shown in the previous video I posted (just a random sequence blinking all the lights to show them all in action). Most of the clips are very condensed due to the movie shots being so short. Plus I didn’t want to upload a 3 min video.
