Bandai 1/72 PG Millennium Falcon (also the Revell Germany rebox)

Nice build, especially for a re-entry into the hobby! What base color did you use for your Falcon?

Thanks Demigod,
I used a 10:1 mix of Vallejo model Air 71.119 White Grey and 71.132 Aged White.
I got the mix form ModelChili Scale Models on youtube, he has a great video series of his build of the Falcon that helped me alot.

So I built a basic base for my stand out of a cheap 2" deep 12" x 12" shadow box frame and a 12" square acrylic mirror that at drilled an 18mm hole through for the stand. All up it cost about $55 Canadian including the projector stand.

Did someone here paint his PG Falcon with Archive-X paints and can give me some advice on which paints are used on which panels?
And which paints are used for overspray on certain panels?

I spent some time this weekend painting not one but two Falcons. This is my first go at using Archive-X paint. I mixed Reefer White with mineral spirits until it had the consistency of milk. I applied this over the top of my AS-20 and it has a warmer color that already feels more screen accurate.

The only issue I've had is the paint after fully drying is easy to scratch (found that out on the smaller model). Are people applying a protective coat? Did I soften the paint by using the wrong type or too much mineral spirit? Or is the Archive-X not bonding to the Tamiya AS-20?

Edit: I did a test and applied Testor's 1260 Dullcoat lacquer to the battery door. It passes the fingernail test now. I'll try a couple more test pieces and then give it a few days to see if there's any discoloration.

My advice would be to join the Archive-X FB group. Not only is there a color guide for what you will need, but many have posted videos and other color details about the PG Falcon.

Jumping into this thread since I got wind of the BigBadToyStore's PG Falcon sale late last week (through a FB modeling group) and placed an order. I plan to build it as the ESB version with 3D printed landing gear boxes and some other goodies, and maybe some PE stuff as well. The bluetooth lighting kit marketed by Falcon3D is awfully tasty but I figure for the same price (or maybe even less) I can upgrade my rudimentary Arduino skills and build up something myself.

I posted this elsewhere, but since I've posted a few of these type of images here before, here's a recent shoot I did with my Falcon. I took a frame from the first Ep IX teaser and used that as my reference:

Can you go into more detail on how it was made? Are the star streaks a long exposure or computer imagery? What did your before and afters look like.

Yeah, for the lightspeed tunnel, I made a custom dot-brush in Photoshop, and then did a radial blur set to zoom, and then an added pinch to give it a bit more "distance" to the end of the tunnel. Added an outer and inner glow via the layer styles, and changed the hue on the Falcon to match the blue of the lightspeed. The engine glow in this one is all real, as the photo was a 10 second exposure. I noticed that the longer the exposure went, the brighter and bigger the engine glow became. I thought about doing a 20 second exposure for the engine glow, and then a 5-7 second exposure on the rest of the Falcon and then doing a composite of those two, but it turns out that the 10 second exposure was the sweet spot for both.

Here's what the shot looked like out of the camera:

(Tech specs for photo nerds: Canon 6Dii, Sigma 50mm ART lens at f/16, 10 second exposure, processing in Photoshop).

Then it was a simple task of cutting it out with the pen tool (although that's a pain because of all the greeblies, but oh well).

Here's a few BTS images. Just taken in the basement with a diffused light source coming from the front, and then I held up a bounce card to fill in a bit on the bottomside of the hull:

BTW, I post all of these images and some BTS on my Instagram @star_wars_battlegrounds. There really isn't a bad angle on the Falcon!

Very pretty... Ive started prepping by getting paints in and what not......

Which brings me this questions...

I'm looking for better posed figurines for this kit... I know the big 1:1 scale kit has some new models on shape ways, but I'm looking for something I can print quickly myself on my resin printer. And ideally free :p

Sorry I'm poor and cheap....

Anyone know where I can get some stls?

I think the best seated figurines I've seen for the PG Falcon are those made by Falcon3D. They look like the actors, and are in reasonable and naturalistic positions, often reflecting scenes from the movies. My only criticism would be that they look like they were posed individually, as it were - they don't all work together as an ensemble diorama, if you know what I mean. These are not available as STLs - just finished figures.

Not much that's actually free. There's this one:

But it's scaled for the DeAgo Falcon and would need to be reduced - whether it'd be printable when shrunken down, I don't know. Also, and not to cast aspersions on that guy's work, but Han's arms are a bit stiffly positioned. The console is close to ANH but a bit flat - you'd want to add some wires for levers, and print out some decals or other materials to represent the buttons, etc.

Well i must admit i think its the deago thats on shapeways... if i was able to get those as stls then scale them down to the PG... But i admit.... im not even sure my resin printer can handle that scale:p i might have to just settle with the ones in the kit.

Also whats annoying. I have the skill but not the time or in fairness the will, to get into sculpting new figurines myself...

Looking for the 5 foot miniature cockpit that is in this thread somewhere. If anyone could forward me to who makes it. Working on my 4th falcon

Anyone here tried the new Tamiya Lacquer bottle paints? I just ordered two bottles of LP-35 Insignia White to do some color comparisons with the spray can.

Where did you order them from? I may be interested in doing this as well. I'd love to hear what you think after you try them out.
