Angelica Teach:The woman, the myth, the COSTUME thread

CJS that looks GREAT! Though quite thin... I wonder if the maker can get their hands on a more heavy weight fabric? It's the perfect texture, but I guarantee the wifey will need to wear a full camisole underneath cause any colour bra will pretty much glow right through that. Heck, you can see the dial on the body form through it. :s But the construction is impeccable!

For anyone interested our company created Angelica's cross, all of Black Beards jewelry and some other things in the film as well.
All of which we are recreating to be sold at Disney parks. In addition we hope to re release all the Jack Sparrow rings again since they sold out so fast last time the parks and theater sold them .

I CAN NOT sell DISNEY items to individuals however so don't ask.

We do have a very nice line of pirate jewelry we can sell you however .

....and on another Angelica note, still wrestling with jacket ideas for premier.....
found this at Marshall's. It's cute, but it was too big and I didn't buy it cuz I didn't feel like tackling a re-make......maybe I'll find a small next outing....

Why oh why did I have to find this thread? I was planning on just simply pulling out my pirate regalia for the premiere, but now I want to get this costume together.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and I'll see if maybe I can find some fabric that would work.

Looking through some old reference photos.....
The trim on Angelica's waist cincher........

Looks a lot like the trim on Will Turner's wedding waistcoat in DMC.

Thank you for SHARING! :D Paisley hunt is STILL on... closest was what CJS/UM used, the Waverly Pretty Paisley in Onyx. It's a bit busier of a design and even though it's black instead of green backing it definitely gives a familiar look and looks fantastic as the vest! The hunt continues for me until I pick a month to get this costume actually made...in my case I'll probably procrastinate as long as possible just to search more.

edit: I LOVE when materials have names relating to the costume... ie. Aztec Gold. Hee heeee!

I think this is a great idea... I considered this myself but haven't gotten around to being able to cut and paste a pattern large enough for a nice image file. Have you done this already? Or waiting for more/betterer pics? Any tips or pointers or are you going to be willing to share? :D

Thanks for the link to the trim Shylaah. They don't post to Australia, will have to work on a plan.

Shylaah,
I posted this over at KTTC...What do you think? Beaded...Or fancy trim?

The hatband looks "beaded" to me. Similar to this...
oidlrd.jpg

Perhaps distressed bone "hairpipe" beads?

Or, small dentalium shells/beads?

After enlarging and looking better at the pics, the "beads" on the hatband/trim appears to to be more curved like dentalium.

EDIT:It looks like I was wrong, the hat band appears to just be some type of trim.
Okay...I think a leather "ribbon brush trim" may work. Two pieces reversed, top-to-bottom bottom-to-top.

But I am still on the hunt for leather lacing trim. :confused

Also, CJS pointed out, and POTC confirmed with a better screencap that the buckle has round bumps, not ornate as I first thought.

Oops, sorry about that guys.:$

No, I have not finished the entire design, but I have started the base for it... thats it. I even have the paisley image as my screensaver on my phone, as a reminder, and to help with my search when I'm out and about! :confused Susofashions who will be making my waistcoat has put my order on the back burner for awhile in hopes we can find a closer SA version of the fabric. Our alternative is printing it up. I posted a link to the fabric printer somewhere on this thread. A couple other people were interested in printing it at that time, but I haven't heard anything more about it from them....so :confused
When I have the design done I'll share it.

Has anyone found a commerical draft pattern that would work with the vest? I have found the vest much hard than the coat as it only need minor modifications. Where as the vest looks simple in the front, however there is much more going on in the back.

One tip I can pass on, rather than punching holes in the back of the vest for eyelets, use the eyelets that come with hooks and eyes. It gives a more rustic look and less risk of damaging the garment.

that paisley... printed or crewel\? I think crewel MIGHT be a possibility looking at the edges of each paisley... have definitely added it into my searching attempts... didn't the necklace guy post on here a while back? ... wonder where we can find something similar enough. HMMMMMMMMMM. though it looks simple enough to sculpt/cast as well.

I think I mentioned this at KTTC, I was told by a reliable source that is was embroidered...So is that the same as crewel?

OK ladies! How do you make a lightweight earring for a woman (my wifey) that doesn't have pierced ears? I used natural real beads / jade to make her earring and attached it to a clip-on earring piece. I knew it was too heavy but we tried it on anyway. After wearing it for about 5 minutes it was sitting on the ground. Her ear lobes are now stretched out like a gothic woman's earlobe....I don't know why I typed that! :confused :confused

Yep, POTC and Jack don't get much attention in this neck of the woods!

However, for those who remain ever loyal........

UM to answer your earring question......
Any kind of earring is going to be irritating if you're not use to wearing them, but none so much as an accursed clip on!!

You can do a couple a three things to help alleviate the discomfort. No material, save perhaps a wispy spider web, is going to be light enough to make an earring that doesn't pull and weight your ear down, pierced or not......

For clip on earrings you can try some kind of foam pad, they sell them specifically for earrings. Some are adhesive, some little cushion sleeves that slip on over the clip. But you can also use pads like those to put on eyeglasses nose pads, or those corn and callous relief stick on things. Cut to fit the front and back of the clip on for a little cushiony comfort from the pinching, but it won't do anything for weight and pull discomfort.

Depending on the look you are trying to achieve, you could try using a French Hook that hooks over the top of the ear like India women use to hook those big, elaborate and heavy earrings they wear onto.
It hooks over the top of the ear like a blue tooth ear hook, and in fact, one similar to this one could probably be modded to hold an earring dangle....
this kind of remedy distributes the weight over the entire auricular appendage instead of pulling your ear lobes down to you arm pits....

One other solution is to use an earcuff earring that has an attatched loop for adding dangles to it--like this one, remove the chain and stud....though you can find them made for the purpose with just a loop on it........

Goes on like this....

earring-cuff.jpg

....you can even use some needle nose pliers to bend the regular hook on a dangle earring into a cuff tight enough not to fall off.......

This puts the weight and pull on that cartilage instead of the lobe.

If none of these seem to work on their own, try some combination, like cushions on the earcuff or French hook, or try adhering the French hook to the side of the head behind the ear with some surgical glue to further help distribute and hold the weight. Maybe use a French Hook or earcuff to help support the weight of a cushioned clip on...........
