Thansk to everybody who helped me out before when I asked for help on how to get started with a scratch built ISD but it is underway now and I thought I would post some progress pics, sorry for the lengthy post.

Once I finished the engine area (which I detailed first since I thought it would be the least fun) I moved on to the side trenches which was fun kitbashing together

The dreaded panel line scribing was the next thing I did on the bottom of the ship, it took forever but it pays off in the end and is more than worth it

The hangar was the first super detailing I did on the bottom and also a fun bit, too bad its on the bottom where not a lot of people look on the finished model

The large greebeling of the bottom was next and it turned out pretty nice, its the small stuff that gives me nightmares

And this is where I currently am, all thats left to be done on the bottom is add the small greebles over the surface which I will do this weekend. I also plan on painting the bottom and back as well as getting the stand made so by Monday I can have it flipped over and finally begin work on the super structure...what I've been waiting for this whole time! I will post more pics as I go thanks for looking!

Uh...yeah. WOW! One of the models I'm hoping to get to. As long as I live through my 23" Falcon which I JUST started. Amazing work and I absolutely LOVE your hangar detail.

What did you use for your smaller engines?
Dave

Thanks Dave! The little engines are acrylic golf ball/egg stands I found on Amazon for 9 bucks and they fit perfectly. The insides are armored car wheels. So you took the falcon challenge huh? I want to start a 42" falcon after this Im drawing up plans now. Id love to see some pics I bet that thing is a bear to build!

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to keep them in mind. Once I found out that a lot of the 32" kits were also used on the ISD, then I figured what the heck.

Yeah...the Falcon is a bit perplexing. I'm at the point where I've got to really begin to pay attention to what I'm doing so that I don't screw something up. I keep second-guessing myself. I'll start a thread once I get to a point where I've got something decent to show. No sense cluttering up the threads with stuff that everyone else is doing.

I'm gonna watch your build with a LOT of interest! :love

Dave

Appreciate it guys hopefully by the end of the week I will have some more stuff to put up. Dave have you got to the cockpit tube on the falcon yet? Im trying to puzzle through how im going to do it, it looks like I wont be able to get around cutting pvc unfortunatly.

Actually I saw your thread over in the SS forum. You're not tackling both at the same time are you? LOL! I have a cutting template file of the falcon that I got from another member here...it helped a LOT! One thing that was included were the ribs for the top. I was going to try and eyeball it using those rib templates. But I like Peza's idea in using the dremmel. Once I get to the point of the cockpit tube, I'll definitely have a thread going.

I don't know if anyone has done it yet, but I was thinking of creating a cutting template for the SS ISD because of the Falcon templates were a big help.

Sorry...didn't mean to hijack your ISD thread talking about the Falcon! :lol Looking forward to more pics!!(y)thumbsup

No no I could not do these at the same time I would go insane. I am shooting for an April finish time on the Avenger and beginning falcon work after that, I will have to get my hands on some cutting templates as well.

I was wondering! :lol I'll probably do the exact opposite! :behave
PM me about the templates.

Thanks for the kind words guys, always nice to hear other opinions other than my own lol. MooCriket, yeah it takes up a little more space than I thought lol. I always plan something smaller but just cave in and add a foot or two. This was supposed to be 24" when I initially decided to do it...got a little carried away.

Seeing someone Building the avenger is always rocks me whether it's small size or big size.
And this really rocks me!! Great build!!:eek

Thanks katsu, I was definitley inspired to do this by all the amazing builds of the avenger I've seen from modelers on this thread, if I can get mine even close to that I will be happy. I will be posting some pics later this week of the painted bottom.

Re: 42" Avenger WIP pics -Weekend Updates

So over the weekend I finished the greebeling on the bottom of the ship, painted it and detailed the panels plus started the construction on the super structure. By the end of this week I would like to get it completly built up and start the gun assemblies on the top. Enjoy!

Thanks a lot guys, compliments mean a lot here because I know how great the talent is on this site. I was going to do some pics with the Avenger and Executer when it was done but I suppose I could take a few early lol. Lucky for me Im moving to a bigger place this spring because I am literally out of room to put these beasts now. I will start a new thread this weekend with some of my other pieces for anyone whos interested. Again thank you for all the kind words they do mean a lot!
