Yoshimitsu (Tekken 3/Tag) Build *Complete*

Hello again RPF! Though I'm still working periodically on my Iron man suit, I've decided to start a new build to break up the monotony. I've got my sights set on Tekken's Yoshimitsu; specifically, how he appears in Tekken 3/Tekken Tag:

There aren't many people who've done this costume. In fact, I've only come across two.

I'm hopeful I'll be able to approach the same level of craftsmanship as these two artists.

I chose to start with the helmet, as I feel it's the most important aspect of the character. Since sculpting the entire helmet from scratch would be very heavy (not to mention expensive), I've instead laid out the basic shapes with cardboard and tinfoil.

I then covered the structure with a thin layer of clay.

All the claywork has been completed. I'll be trying an experimental technique for molding. I've started covering the sculpt with plaster bandages, then I plan on smoothing it out with spackling paste (or something similar). My plan is to make a hard master that I can then mold with rubber. Thoughts?

For the body armor, I'll be using EVA foam. High mobility is a must for this character, so I'm tweaking the design to allow for as much freedom of movement as possible. I've already completed the chest piece. I rather like how it turned out.

I'll probably go in with a soldering iron and engrave a bit more relief detail.

Namco fan in the house! I have thought about making this. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

Re: Yoshimitsu (Tekken 3/Tag) Build

yessssssssssss! Good luck on this one. Best Yoshi costume from all the Tekken series.

Re: Yoshimitsu (Tekken 3/Tag) Build

I've begun spackling the helmet. Once that's done, I'm thinking of giving it a few coats of polyurethane. Is this a bad idea?

Great work so far, an excellent choice of character. I've always wanted a Yoshimitsu costume; Tekken 3 is definitely the best rendition.

Re: Yoshimitsu (Tekken 3/Tag) Build

The helmet is almost done. I just need to sculpt the teeth and add the neck guard.

I'm a bit indecisive on molding. I'm debating ordering some Brush-On 40 urethane from Smooth-On, but I already have a full jar of Mold Builder liquid latex. Should I take the plunge and order, or use what I have?

Re: Yoshimitsu (Tekken 3/Tag) Build

I finished the shoulder plates last night.

After Plasti-Dip:

Now all they need is some paint!

Re: Yoshimitsu (Tekken 3/Tag) Build

Teeth sculpted, neck guard added. Now all that's left to do is spackle/polyurethane the fresh areas, then it can be molded. I still have the option of either ordering Brush-on 40 or using the mold builder latex I already have. Which one would you guys recommend?

Arlene's costumes had almost everything I needed for the clothing. I'll be using a red "second skin" knockoff morphsuit for the body:

I might add a little muscle shading so it looks less flat.

I also picked up a pair of fishnet gloves for the arms:

And the perfect pair of pants turned out to be... disco pants! They're appropriately baggy for Yoshimitsu, though I'll need to modify them a bit.

Yoshi is known for being flamboyant, but the disco sparkles may be a bit much...

Re: Yoshimitsu (Tekken 3/Tag) Build

I sprayed the helmet white so I could see it in a uniform color. I like what I see! Though I still haven't decided for molding.
