WIP - BSG S-01 Blaster (1st Prop) and Scratch-built Holster!!!

Hello Don

Well the grips are totally smooth with no hint of a wood grain whatsoever. It should be noted that the kit is not a direct Matsuo but a licensed (from Matsuo) piece done by a well known producer whom many on this board have purchased items from.

That being said I have heard of the rasp file technique you mentioned but never attempted such. Mine you I just looked and found a great tutorial while I was typing this reply;

http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-PVC-Look-Like-Wood/

on doing similar to PVC PIPE so trying it on the resin grip may not be a big stretch. Oh well something new to try to learn

I mentioned the circular rasp file so you could deepen the finger grooves into the grips. I prefer the file over just using the Dremel because one can get carried away with the Dremel. The file allows you to go slower with more control and correct any mistakes easier than with the Dremel.

Aaaaaaaah totally misunderstood your message. Yes I will try to deepen the finger grooves as much as possible. However the grips are just smaller then Matsuo's original grips and well the grips are a bit thinner as well. Here is a comparison shot (better then the one I sent you via PM);

I've not been here in a while but "life" has gotten in the way since I last posted to this thread back in June. After a few more tweeks the Blaster and Holster Project is to my mind wrapped up!! So here are the latest pictures of what I hope to wear to a little get together at Halloween;

This has been my "first" prop and well if this was a better camera you would see ALL of my mistakes in "FAR" GREATER Detail!!! As it were it was a major learning experience and I hope to do better with my other BSG and Han Solo Blasters!!! As always any and all comments, suggestions and critiques are welcome!!!

We did not use model 10s

darkev,

The show used S&W Model 10 revolvers. The closest company I can find for the style of grip you want is called Hogue. I have attached two links, one for S&W and one for Colt;
http://www.hogueinc.com/grips/S&W
https://www.hogueinc.com/grips/colt

The thing is that the current grips offered by Hogue are one piece designs ans attach to the bottom of the pistol grip frame and I doubt you'll be able to mount them like that in yours. They also have the back of the grip open to show the frame of the pistol.

I am wondering if the grip Matt used had been modified?

I did find an auction on evilbay that might suit your needs;

Hope this helps.

kpcstudio;

Mea Culpa, further research states that the S&W 586/686 K/L frame was the basis for the Clamshell pistol. I do apologize for getting it wrong.

Did you by any chance work on the CX4s? I need a proper length for the beastie so I can scratchbuild them in 1/32nd scale for some Colonial Marines I want to put beside my Moebius Raptor.

Regards

Yeah... none of those models are correct. :)

As for the rifles.... I’m on vacation now so I do have my work computer in front of me. When I get back, I can help you with some of that.

If you didn't use the 586, what did you use? The IMFDB lists the 686 L frame as the donor gun inside the clamshell. Enjoy your vakay and son't worry about replying until you are home again, vakay time is precious after all. ;)

The IMFDB also has a picture of Matsucorp’s replica season 1 there and that’s incorrect too. Fans log onto that site all the time and chime in and modify that site all the time. The problem with that is a great deal of time they’re uploading incorrect information. ;)

So is Matsuo's awesome wood handle incorrect? I don't care cuz it's awesome but just wondering.

My next project is the S-01 Pistol that Matsuo licensed to Alchemy Arms and the reason I sidetracked my build journal above was to find the "source" of the grips he used in this picture;

Matsuo Original BSG Blaster Grips.jpg

So given what you guys have talked about does such a real world grip actually exist??? If it somehow doesn't I have some MDF sheets and my dremel and some pretty good pictures and side views to start another scratchbuild.

Heh I saw that... No one should take IMFDB as gospel, and this is entirely the case in point. In fact there are many entries where they feature (un credited or annotated) fan made replicas.
As for the replica they used in the BSG entry that is a very old iteration and wildly inaccurate. :D
I seem to recall someone copying that model as pictured and making their own replicas assuming it was accurate... Going to all the trouble to prototype and produce multiple copies of a piece based on flawed and inaccurate copy... Kind of funny in a way. But also a cautionary tale for not taking what's posted on the internet as truth.

Exactly!

I think it comes down to one fan thinks they “solved” a mystery and has to post their findings as gospel. Then everyone looks at that and automatically calls it “canon”. I don’t even bother going in there to correct all that info on stuff I’ve ever done. :) Someone would probably just change it back anyway. Ha ha.

Matt, did you find people copying your replica? I didn’t even know that. How you been otherwise?

Some airsoft company via Offworld did a straight up recast of my early model, the one based on the python which we all know is inaccurate. They also recast the Equilibrium cleric pistol which was a joint project between Morgan13 and I.

Doing good otherwise. Very busy trying to establish my new shop and take care of backorders as well as bring in new business etc. You know how it is. :)

Definitely know how it’s is. I had back to back films and a TV shows this year. So, Melissa and I had to get away. Here in LA for a couple weeks chillin. Okay.... I don’t want to derail this thread anymore. :) Sorry Guys.

Talk to ya soon
