BattleStar Galactica Colonial Blaster S1 Build

The internal frame is now done, We have based it on the S&W Model 29.

Hey Dave, I was curious what are your thoughts on the handle inserts that are one some of the props? Have you considered added those as an option to your design? Either way, I'm loving what you guys have put together and can't wait for your next update!

Instead of the S&W logo, how about the center of the Colonial seal?

Very small update. It's still being worked on! Still tweaking the design. I recently took delivery of some genuine S&W grips and I'm printing a test print as I type this of the inner frame! Hopefully I can give some more exciting posts soon.
NICE!!! My Money is just waiting to be let loose!!!

Everything’s looking great! So no chance of a cold cast clamshell? Or if we want metal will we have to get them printed in metal?

Looks good, but I'm pretty sure the Model 29 is way bigger than the original S&W they used for the series. Depending on the source material available on the internets, it was either a S&W K or L frame, or a S&W 686, most likely in .38 or .357. .44 mag is way too big.

There are some subtle differences between the factory S&W combat grips on a K/L frame vs the N frame. The size and position of the S&W badge is part of that which makes the N frame more likely in my opinion. Also Tahmoh Penikett is a big guy and the blaster still looks big in his hands. I had some comparison pics I did with a friend, of factory combat grips for K/L frame and N frame that I believe were sent to DaveChaos.

I forget why I chose the 29 i the first place? Its not a huge problem to scale the clam shell but the inner frame will need editing. looking further into it after your comment I do think the 29 is the wrong choice!

Ken Palkow's Instagram confirms the use of 38's in Blood and Chrome.

also to note on closer inspection the grips I got are not correct, There should be an open back exposing the inner frame. The grips I have are closed...

I have researched this a bit a while ago, and I think, even though they didn't use the 29, you might have chosen it at the time because it's the most available replica. I haven't found an acurate replica myself, at least in Europe.

haha yep, the problem with long running projects and bad memory. I think you're right I think it may be because there is a 29 airsoft available. I would much rather have a accurate prop in this case

DaveChaos Ken saying that he used a K/L frame doesn't mean that is what was used, it's just been widely accepted that it was a 686 but I have not seen anything do definitively prove it was.

This was a comparison of factory S&W combat grip. Top is the J frame version, bottom is the K/L frame version. Also a pic of it in Tahmoh Penikett's hand, given how big it is and how his fingers (particularly the pinky) fit the grip it feels a far better fit to have the larger frame.
