BattleStar Galactica Colonial Blaster S1 Build

Also should mention that I did not scale the pictures specifically, it was just visual reference/comparison for the grips

I have a production cast of the miniseries pistol (also used throughout season 1 on Caprica), the casts are well made, the revolver inside is cast separately, I'll check tomorrow, I think there are still some markings on it.

Its like a big game of spot the difference haha, I can see myself offering a multitude of options.

This image is of a direct cast of the blaster used by katee sackhoff, those look like J fame?

Please do, I would really like to get this right or as close to it as possible. Thanks!

Here's a site with references and sizing for the various frames.

Not sure if the grips on the cast from screen used blaster have some internal registration lines that can be compared to those dimensions but that's where I'd start.

Another potential monkey in the wrench is that they also could have used a Taurus revolver as those were very close to the S&W revolvers in terms of overall shape due to the ties between the two companies. Not that Taurus made knock offs, but they were damned close.

Great pics eethan! Main problem here is that the miniseries hero is different than the main series hero which doesn't necessarily mean they even used the same frame sized revolver as the base with new shells made, which may still fit between the K/L and N frame anyway since the bulk of the size difference looks like it could fit inside anyway. That mini series one is certainly an L frame round butt, while the main series one is a square butt frame (as Mechamaniac mentioned it could be a S&W clone for all we know also).

That is definitely a S&W K frame revolver being used as the base. Hard to tell which since there were a ton of them, but the L frames all had a barrel lug that was cast as part of the barrel that ran the length of the barrel and acted as a shroud for the ejector rod. Not sure what we can divine from the casting itself, but there are definitely marks on the cast revolver showing artifacts of something being ground off of the bottom of the barrel.

So, my best guess is a K frame.

Just thought of something else I can do tomorrow, I have the M29 airsoft as I bought it mistakenly thinking it would fit matsuo shells at the time, i can take a photo of the M29 L frame revolver next to the cast to show the size difference :)
I understand the mini series and main series have different details but i didn't expect they were different in size, don't know if they are. I thought they just added details on the same base for the main series.

Also, pointing out again that we always call the version i showed as the mini series version, but it is used by Helo throughout season 1 on Caprica, it's pretty cool they didn't add any incoherences here by changing his pistol from the first 2 episodes and the rest of the series :)

This is rattling a memory in the back of my head from the old ASAP days. I feel fairly sure folks there claimed it was a Taurus base in S1.

Of course they also said Vader's saber was a Heiland, so...

Nice thanks for adding the pictures eethan !

I need to focus on one so I'm almost certainly going to make the first revision an L frame and if there is a big need for it we can arrange bigger or smaller clam shell for people who already have a base revolver to add it too later on

As I had mentioned before, if you look at some of the finer differences between the K/L and N frame combat grips the N looks more correct in my opinion. The size of the cut out for the thumb is smaller relative to the rest of the grip by a bit, also the K/L grips seem to have a more pointed front where it meets the trigger guard rather than the flatter area on the N frame, and a bit more space for the pinky finger.

Not saying that I am definitively right because we don't have access to the S1 hero, but we do know for sure it's not the same base revolver and the shells were remade.

I would love to see a comparison of the same shells on both an N frame and a K/L frame to see where the shoulder sits etc.

Here's a Smith and Wesson Model 10 (K Frame) with the same barrel markings and smaller barrel lug.

I actually have one of these, though a much earlier model with a different barrel. LMK if you want me to take some pics and/or measurements of the grip frame etc.

yes, that revolver looks very similar to my cast indeed.

I tried to take some photos to compare the umarex M29 airsoft compared to the cast and the shrouds but it's pretty difficult to show in photos. Basically, the frame of the M29 is around 5mm or so larger in all direction.

if you position the bottom of the revolver frame into the recess on the shroud, the revolver end up higher than the top of the shroud itself, you can see also how the barrel doesn't align with the shroud barrel.

I do love the Pachmeyer grips!

This is my 7 shooter .357 and 6 shooter 44 Magnum, (Bear guns).
The true Modern Day Blasters!

Are you feeling lucky punk???!!!

We only have black bears around this part of MN, but it was a good excuse to buy some more guns, just so I'm ready if I ever do go into grizzly territory. Ever see the Revenant? Back Country? The Edge? Screw the spray crap, "I won't get ate!" (Jane Cobb)
