Any progress anyone?

Hey, gang. About the material used for his jacket. If ANYONE here has the Phantom of the Opera "making of" book for the Lloyd Weber musical - NOT the movie, the musical, look at the promo shots toward the rear and look at the Phantom's jacket material. It is VERY close and all but "it" for V.

I know the source on that material but it is very very very expensive - almost $250.00 a yard. Yes, you heard me right. But it is 60" wide as well. Still very pricey. And it is all silk. I think the store is Holland and Sherry in London.

Does anyone have that phantom photo?

You can see the Phantom's arm in this photo if I can post it okay. I'm stupid when it comes to posting.

So I had almost given up on this costume, but something is calling me back to it. I was at work the other day and they were altering a bunch of doublets for use in a show and I notice the doublets were of a freakishly similar cut to the V doublet. There is still some streamlining to do, but I bummed the pattern to copy and resize (the one they had is like a size 50 ). Then I was in the local fabric store and I found the lovely fabric pictured below... Not exact I know, but the closest thing anyone has found so far I'm sure. Definitely close enough to turn heads at a Con... Opinions???

Here is more progress. I have never sewed a stich in my life, so this wasnt easy, but I made a cape. Im not thrilled with the product, but its a start. its a simplicity pattern, but the instructions stunk and i had to do a lot of guess work. I found a better pattern for a jaket I will start soon. I am still lokinfor gloves and a wig, so if you have advice feel free to let me know.

The cape actually doesn't look too bad. You can probably fix it by simply adding darts to the shoulders so that is sits around the shoulders almost like a shirt does. Does that make sense? It helps it to drop from the shoulders instead of your neck. And someone else might want to chime in on this one, but you can probably just 86 the lining. the photos I have it doesn't appear to have one. Just looks hemmed to me.

In other words, I wouldn't start over on it. Just make alterations.

The hat was a pain for me to get, mostly because of price (it was about 40-50, I think). What I did was just order a Pilgrim hat from a costume company, then remove the buckle from the front. NOT THE RIBBON (very important to remember), just the buckle. This will not give you a movie version of V, but a comic book version, which I think is vastly superior to the movie hat.

As for the wig, do a search for a Peggy Sue wig. Get it in brown or black. Brown is the comic version, once again, and I think looks a little better, but black works too.

Mock-up of DCD's V dagger:

The DCD daggers are fairly inaccurate....I'm sitting 3ft. away from a screen-used piece, and it's quite a bit different, to say the least.

It does claim to be a
"Mock-up of DCD's V dagger:"
To me it almost looks like a paper cutout in a box (by the look of the left quillon).
The pointy blade (which is on all of the posters) is nothing like the blade shape on the ones in the pics at the beginning of this thread, or a screen-used 'spark effect' dagger that has had its picture floating around. I can't remember the blade shape of the CG daggers in the final 'dagger time' sequence, perhaps they were pointy. Or else someone at DCD took a poster, cut the dagger out and stuck it in a box for the photo.

EDIT: I just followed your link above and saw that you own that 'spark effect' dagger. :thumbsup

I am bumping this thread — the DVD is only days away.

What do you expect to find?

Me, I'm gunning for the currency. And maybe Gordon's address scrap.

Who knows what wonderful secrets await us.
