TRON: Legacy - Robes

So I've started working on the modified pattern. I found an old kimono pattern that I've basted together and am getting ready to chalk up with my modifications. I decided to go with the kimono pattern as it had lining; the ghi pattern did not. The screen shots I've seen seem to indicate that the robe has grey or silver lining.

Big problem is the scaling on the back. Kevin's robe has a seam at the waist where most patterns don't. The circuitry pattern doesn't fit the scale of the discs we have and the size of our backs. I'm still struggling with that one.

Here's some detailed-ish pics from the second screen app of both the black robes and the white robes, which seems like the same design as the inner black robes...

I personally love the hood. I may make a robe like this after I have finished my C.L.U. costume... Heck, it seems easier than my C.L.U. costume. Plus, I wanted to film a little after-movie to Legacy, (for my video production college as a side project, which we are required to have,) and it would be nice if Kevin Flynn was there.

Or I could just wear it out because it's cool and all. For the designs in the back and such I'd say I would stencil them out then lay them on the robes and spray with plasti-dip so the design shows up as a different texture, seeps into the fabric so it's durable, and looks awesome. :)

Sooooo many uses for plasti-dip...

I created the pattern for the back of Flynns' robe - I traced the back of the video game shot above. I accidentally posted this in the clu robe thread, and the site is smart enough not to let me upload it again (even if I rename it), not sure how to move/delete it there, but here is a link.

My friend is kind enough to let me use his embroidery machine to put this on the back of my robe.

Oooh good idea my wife has an embroidering machine she might do something like this for me :) (If I do a Kevin Flynn robe)

Thank you so much for this!! :confused I don't know why I didn't think of an embroidery machine before! I wonder if my friend's would do this pattern...

I made a second pattern using the white robe above - it had much better detail than the black (not sure how I missed that before), and I corrected the perspective on this one a lot more.

Hi guys. I've been lurking around every so often. I wish I got started a lot earlier. My buddy and I plan on making these robes for Halloween. There is a major lack of information, but I think I've filled in most of the gaps and have a realistic path.

The cloak is really just a modified standard robe. A robe just like a bath robe. The collar has been modified and a boarder has been extended around it all the way down to the end of the robe. The cuts are extended significantly higher and made to break apart in 4 sections. You can get a pattern as a base from somewhere like Joann Fabric. The hood "separate" in the sense that it does not extend from the collar, but under the actual robe. My mother is a seamstress so I plan on getting much more help from her. I'll keep you guys updated.

I have already ordered the light tape for it. I'm only going .75" due to cost and power reasons. I don't plan on extending it behind after it reaches the bottom, but I could if I purchased more tape. I did buy 2" for the sleeves. That totals about 54 square inches of light I need to power. That alone cost about $190. I hope it ships soon since I've never worked with the stuff.

And lastly, thanks for the information that has been provided! I've just been running the movie in slow motion on my ps3 to get details.

Has anyone found good fabrics to use for the black robes? I know they said they were synthetic, but I'm starting to think they might be synthetic silk for the main body of the robe. Any thoughts?

Edit:
After looking around, I think I've found some fabrics that will work. I'm thinking of just going with what looks best, whether or not it's poly. Now I just need to sit down and get some really good screencaps and save up the money!

has there been a pattern that is decided on for the robes? I am interested in finding the pattern (and or a seamstress) for this project. I am sure I can handle the electronics, but put me behind a sewing machine and I would end up with my fingers sewn together.

anyone?

My plan is to use a basic kimono pattern for the kosode and hitoe and alter them as needed. AnneLiese has a really great guide on how to make them.

I am currently working on creating this exact costume. But I don't have the time to buy the cotton and silk to actually make the outfit, so I settled for buying a replica on ebay. Not exactly a true replica obviously due to the absence of the luminescent strips on the inner hem of the robe. But I solved that pretty easily.
There is a website that sells electroluminescent tape that can be fixed to clothing, they also sell power inverters for the strips. My plan is to buy the robes and the tape and sew the power inverter to the back of the torso and mount an Identity Disk replica over the inverter.
This might take a lot of money, but it'll be worth every penny in the end.
(This is going to be a smash at next year's Halloween Dance!)
Oh, and a Bellicose Lightsaber from ultrasabers.net will definitely top the whole thing off.

I'm planning on making the Kevin Flynn robes for Emerald City Comic Con in March. This thread was full of great info and references. I will be sure to post up progress and/or finished work whenever the project gets under way :)

Just watched the film again over the weekend, and again fell in love with the robes...Would love to see what you come up with!

Any update on this? I know it's been a while but I just started looking for patterns on Kevin Flynn's robes and any help would be awesome. Any ideas on the embellishments on the fabric around the disc on the back of the robe?

I'm gonna be doing Kevin Flynn's black outfit for Dallas Comic-Con. I ordered the costume with hood from hellocosplay.com, which I was very satisfied with. I also found this picture in another thread here at the RPF for the pattern on the back:

I'm gonna be sending in the outer robe to a lady I'm commissioning to do the pattern on the back and the tri lines on the sleeves as well as build the disc port on the back. I also found a distributer on ebay that sells the bracelet Kevin Flynn wears. Lastly I need to find some boots that I'm going to mod into the ones he wears, using the Hot Toys figure I own as a reference. I'd love to see what others have come up with regarding this costume. :)

EDIT: Totally didn't see the above posts. FACEPALM.

It definitely seems to me that a Japanese Happi coat (only cut far longer) is probably what I'm going to do for Kevin Flynn's long robe.
