And The Siren costume was a matte grey zentai suit bought off ebay. This was then cut up and white glitter lycra was sewn for the white pieces. This is a white lycra with a fine metallic finish for high shine look. Probably the most difficult bit of sewing this way is that you will need a full body duct tape dummy in order to pattern the pieces correctly to fit your body exactly. However the metallic finish made it easier for hot glue to adhere straight onto the fabric with velcro. This method withstood several 'pull' tests and so long as your lycra has something to 'melt' into the glue it should have the same success rate. She's using reflective tape in the pictures but will update her costume later with EL wire. The contacts she's wearing are Lestat Blue.

Thanks Annisse and Eddiedyr and everyone on this whooping 114+ thread for helping us through the arduous process of making these costumes.

Alita, those Siren photos are absolutely stunning! Great job on the costume and great job on showing it off!

I have been following this thread for about a week now, i finally got my account confirmed and what not..

Ive read the entire thread 2 -3 times now trying to get as much info as i possible can.. and at 114 pages its hard to keep track..

What i would like to do with my costume is just a single stripe on a jacket.. Ive been looking for sites that sell el tape longer then 12" long that is at least 1" wide and i am only coming up with 12"L 1.25"W or 4ftL 13/32"W..

All i need is a 2ft strip and would like it to be 1" wide.. anyone out there know any sites that sell custome lengths like this?

Check these guys out... they are reasonably priced. Large Electroluminescent Panels and Strip Lamps - LED Panels - LUMINOUSFILM.COM --USA

ya i checked there site, they have a sample that is 2ft L x 1"W its perfect size but it costs $55 and they say its not as bright as the AC version so im abit learly spending $55 and it not be bright at all

Tyrant, I just asked luminousfilm.com about 1inch wide split electrode tape)as they call it) and they charge $7.75 a foot (if its white or blue), thats plus an inverter and a connector, $2.

Just so we're clear, and if anybody else has made the same mistake, luminousfilms.com will take you to a christian-themed film production house, whose company line is: "Dedicated to making movies that are uplifting"

Now, if you want some sweet EL tape and sheeting, go to luminousfilm.com (No additional S at the end of 'film'

Just trying to steer people in the right direction. :lol

Ok.. time for a small horror story request:

I know next to nothing about electronics design and PCBs, but does anyone with some experience in such work know a basic method of building a Sawtooth PCB?

I'm basically looking to have three options on my suit. The Sound Invertor would have its three settings: 1-Off, 2-On, 3-Sound Reactive On. I would then like to place a pcb on the main lead to the ELWire Harness that would (with the throw of a switch) cause the #2 setting (constant On) to slowly grow in brightness then slowly return to minimum illumination, repeat. This would give the whole system a look of a 'pulsing' power system, not just a flashing one like most invertors offer.

Any input is welcome.

LONG time lurker, first time poster. In response to gams001:

Sounds like you need a PCB that performs Pulse Width Modulation on the AC waveform going to the EL circuit. A sawtooth wave generation would work, if it was simply DC. But the way you are describing it, sounds like the PCB would be after your primary inverter and before your EL wire, is that correct?

Before you consider your PCB requirements, you need to understand the voltage and duty cycle and frequency of your inverter. Its probably a typical 120V 200hz 50% duty cycle AC output, but double check that.

As for my stuff, I hope tonight to finish the world's first LED based siren suit for my girlfriend! Months of work using Eddie's masking tape/shower curtain distribution method works great as a circuit and is MUCH brighter than EL wire or EL tape. More bulky, but brighter. Will share pics when done

Colonelmasako.. thanx for chimin' in, though you utterly lost me after 'after primary inverter'. :p I would be thrilled to speak with you via PM or AIM/Yahoo.. to better understand what my undertaking would be (if you have the desire to help more so).

*updated* As to todays messing around:
TRON 1.5 Legacy ELWire/ELTape Build update
A rethinking of the Dec 2010 TRON 1.5 Blk_ICE Anti-Viral/Intrusion Program. Adding the remaining Green ELTape that, while I should add it to the hooded outer jacket, I think it works better on the armor, leaving the jacket to be a minor add on.

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I just spent ages going over it for some future costume plans and I wanted to thank all the people that have been providing great advice.

Just imagine how HUGE it's going to look with the SI Mod'd Green LED Disc!!! :love

That's why we are all here Dr.. to help each other look freakin' awesome, or as close as possible to it. Feel free to ask anything, though reading the 'whole' thread is really a huge help. :angel

Well, after 6 months of research and several tries, I am ready to show up.
Not the best pics ever, but nice anyway.

Everything is in this thread. Everything. Thanks everyone.
