You might look into doing a more robust power supply with EL Sheets. Something like a laptop battery conversion if you can get your system on the right voltage.

That's one of the things I'm looking into. The Lithium-Ion 9V batteries I bought did the trick. They went the full 4 hours at the party and were still at full brightness.
Still, if I could eliminate 2 inverters on my upper body it would be much easier to maintain the pack.
One site that was very helpful down the stretch was www.elwirepros.com.
I think going forward, I'm going to be using their inverters and wire accessories for projects going foward.
I may...MAY build another torso and sell it on eBay in time for the premiere in Dec.
Hey all just joined this forum tonight from the Land Down Under, I am in process of designing and making a suit but limited budget, not looking for something for movie premiere but something half decent looking. I have been looking at all the posts and am still up air over costume lighting, I thinking reflective tape and neoprene for armor on a black undersuit (have ordered a bit of EL Wire to test though).
So point of post is cheap black undersuit? Can't find anything decently priced! Any Aussies know where to get a cheap black undersuit? In fact an suggestions to source materials in Australia would be appreciated
$40 USD you can buy what is known as catsuit, zentai, or lycra body suit.

Thanks! It's actually orange reflective tape. I was trying to match the deep yellow that CLU2 wears and this was the best match.
Hey all, just wanted to thank you for all the information on the TL costumes... All your images are great.
I'm new to the RPF and fairly new to costuming... TL will be my first attempt at a movie costume.
With any luck, I will have mine done for the movie, and I am planning on wearing it to downtown disney opening night... Who knows, might try to wear it to elecTRONica, however Disney can be weird about costumes in the park.

Oh my gosh!!!! You guys look awesome!!! Very well done! Where did she get her Quorra boots from? I may need to make a new pair. They look pretty similar to mine but my craft foam job I did is completely falling apart. Well more like the acrylic paibt is cracking off.
Don't ever paint tight fitting boots with any type of paint. Trust me. I have done this twice already both failing. The paint expands when put on your leg then with all the walking around chips off and cracks. Repainting just looks bad from close up.

No problem with getting your costume into Disney. Here's what I did. Wear a long coat over it. Get a locker to stash your crap at DCA. They are right by the main entrance gate and you're set
exactly what I did when I went last Sunday in my Quorra costume. Worked out fine. There was even some other guy in his Tron costume all lite up with El Wire at ElecTRONica. Should have asked him how did he get passed the main gate dressed line that. Evenif he had his lights turned off. It was clear he was wearing some sort of Tron costume. Very RAD!!!
Try it out!!! It's much MUCH more fun going in a Tron costume!

Hey all. My first post. I started following this forum when my GF and I wanted to do Tron costumes for Halloween. We appreciate all the advice everyone gave. Thought I would share the results.
We each took second in our respective categories (men's/women's) and won the couples contest!

Hmmm not impressed with prices for simple spandex undersuits! I hanve an old Zorro costume with a black lycra suit I may be able to alter to job, I have ordered in 9ft of EL Wire & some Scothclite Reflective tape and am going to test them out next to each other for results, would 9ft EL Wire be enough to light the chest/back area?
For the "armor" I am going to use Neoprene sheets a base sheet and a 2nd layer that will be cut to pattern to stick to base with EL Wire or Reflective tape in channels for circuit pattern, am shamelessly going to borrow some ideas from some others photo's on forum to work out best effect I can see that for flexibilty it will have to be layers so I can at least sit down but oh well

You might want to get more EL wire than you need in case you make a mistake. I say 22-30 ft. Totally borrow everyones ideas. Thats why we are all here!

Get a LOT more EL Wire. I'm going to post the pics beneath this with some of the specs we used, but you're going to need a whole lot more than 9FT. Haha

Pretty happy with how they turned out, considering how problematic they were. One of her boots couldn't be unzipped because the super glue next to the zipper screwed up the fabric. So we used a rubber band to secure it...can't tell at all in the photo though!
All in all, we used about 38 FT EL Wire for hers (25 for shirt, 5 each for the boots, 3 for the disc), and about 41 FT for me. I am already thinking of ordering neoprene sheets etc. from Amazon for my Tron Legacy 2.0 costume. Not sure I'll have one ready in time for the premiere...but I'll try!

I like the thickness of the EL wire in the costumes. I think it does the pattern justice in certain areas. I'll be investigating a Clu costume that I'll try to manufacture and get on eBay for sale before the premiere. I'll be interested to see how much it goes for.
On that note, I'm going to be spinning off my own thread for that project. I think that this one rules for knowledge. Mine will be more of a step-by-step tutorial on how to make your own, incorporating a lot of what has been mentioned here.
This time I'll be using a mix of EL wire, tape, and sheets to achieve the effect. I'll reserve the first 8 posts or so. Should give me enough room to break up the project into the main segments I'm thinking of. As always everyone's input is welcome as the goal is to take ALL of our knowledge and condense it into a blueprint others can follow with the same degree of success.
