Tron Legacy Costume

I would be OK with flying over there if we can get enough of us with finished costumes to make an impact. I just need some notice so I can arrange a vacation day or two.
.

I plan to have my Quorra costume lite up by the end of November, the lastest. If you can plan a trip down to LA by then DO IT!!!! hopefully we can all meet up at ElecTRONica. Would be perfect to meet up right before the movie premiere! ;)

Let us know!

Yes!!!!! Looking good. The reflective tape looks awesome with the flash photography!

You will find that you long to have it actually light up though ;) in the process of preparing to light up my Quorra suit. Great work!!! ;D

Last night was the first durability test for the costume. It held up surprisingly well but I didn't do any dancing (frankly not much of a dancer anyway).

The power drain was significant. The EL sheet scarfs up the juice. A regular 9V Duracell battery lasted 2 hours. I have one 9V inverter powering each leg. Both died at about the same time. My waist and thighs died out as well with the same power supply.

Only the EL wire on my arms and whatever was being powered with the twin 12V 8AA inverter supplies lasted the entire evening (which went 4 1/2 hours).

So if you're looking to party long into the night you'll need at least one battery change or find longer lasting batteries.

The EL wire has a lower power requirement so I'm not concerned about that but if you're running EL Sheet off of a 9V make sure it's a high quality battery designed for high power-drain devices.

I've found a helmet that is close to Sam's
pm-pl-01b.jpg

Plusmax : Helme, Plusmax, Plusair, Plus, Flugsport, Skisport, Drachen Fliegen, Gleitschirmfliegen, Ski, Snowboard, Big Mountain Ski : Helme

It's a ski/snowboarding/paragliding/base jumping helmet - maybe the design were based on those than motorcycle helmets, which are looking big.

Wow I love all the new pics you guys have posted, so much creativity.
I finished the top part of my costume, I made the arms and shoulders. I already see somethings that will need to be modified, the legs I did not have enough time to finish so I just made the "el wire" and taped to my spandex pants, overall it was a success, I still cant believe a few people did not know what I was, same thing happened last year when I went as Guy from Daft punk,. I will have pics up soon :), may you all have a blast this weekend.

You too Eddy. Remember to tell people you actually MADE the costume.

Last night I walked down a set of stairs into a room of about 30 people and a freakin hush fell over the room. Then I hear one guy whisper to his friend: 'Dude...that is totally bad ass!'

They were more impressed that I actually built the costume, than with the costume itself (but it was a close second). It was definitely a coversation starter.

Everybody assumed I bought it. When I started explaining it they were shocked. You really will get a sense of pride when everyone starts admiring your work.

I threw out a lot of credit to everyone here at RPF and will do so again tonight at my next party. ;)

Have a blast, Eddy. This is when we enjoy all the hard work that went into this.

Anyone wanna give it a run on a Tron costume for me, for the premier? I've been trying to hold out so I get the ability to post in the junkyard, but I want it to be quality and figured you'll need time.

PM me if you think you can, thanks.

I didnt have time to wire up my costume because on Monday my fiance decided she wanted me to make her a Quorra costume...

I think they look pretty good with just the 3m reflective tape.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

And oh yeah...two costumes for just over $100 (counting the el wire not yet used).

Looks great!! How did you build the suits for under $100? I'm trying to make mine for as little as possible. Any tips help! :)

Whenever I make costumes I get alot of my materials from thrifts stores.

For my Sam suit I got the leather pants for $12, the shirt for $5, paintball/airsoft vest off ebay for $10, The 3m reflective tape off ebay for $10 (for 30ft), modeling foam sheets $4, and nonslip drawers liner for $8. My 56 feet of el wire ran me about $40 off ebay. I also had spare velcro from projects in the past.

Shannon's Quorra Costume was made with spare foam, nonslip liner, reflective tape I had for my costume. The shoes $13 and pants were $4 from a thrift store. The wig she had.

I used a TON of hot glue and got creative where I had to.

For example my shoulder pads are an Ocean Spray bottle cut in two and covered in foam.

If you want to make your costume for cheap just keep in mind that you are not trying to recreate costumes for the movie!

Hey all!

I’m so impressed with all of your costumes I’m almost ashamed of the pictures I’m posting of mine…back in January/February when I was researching there was hardly anything to be found in regards to this sort of costuming…EXCEPT that mine seems to be the only red one I’ve seen.

Reading all these posts makes me want to work on a deluxe edition for next year. I opted for this costume instead of Master Chief because I figured I could whip it up quickly. Boy was I mistaken.

I am curious though as to how much people are spending on their costumes (Compass, etc) when it’s all said and done. I’ve probably spent close to $150 for 2 (wifey and myself).

A few things:

I got the clothing from Target. I didn’t want to spend a lot on over armor but see that was probably a mistake. But I wanted a TRON costume, and a cheap way out of it.

I got the EL wire from diva bella designs. Out of about 11 strings I ordered one has been faulty. Overall reasonable prices though.

I got the discs from play-it-again sports for a few bucks…Frisbee golf discs work better than Frisbees. Now that the officially licensed TRON discs are out though, I can’t see people turning to Frisbees etc. I still think they look cool though with the EL wire.

I had more on the legs but ran into the faulty string issue and had to repurpose the leg string for the jacket. I was up until 4am working on it, and that’s how I found this forum yesterday.

I already have some ideas for what I’d like to add/change. But I think I’ll have to scrap it and start over. I will probably be able to save most of the wire though. Designing it was tricky though using tape and then sewing the wire around the tape. I think next time I’ll measure accurately, mark somehow and then GLUE. Sewing sucks. And I'll probably use a neoprene armor overlay and plastic etc. Maybe even that glow tape. But I'm partial to red...

It’s been a fun project and I’ll post more pictures after the event tonight with the wifey. Hers is green.

Sorry for the crappy quality pics...lights off doesn't always produce great pictures. But I'm still really proud of the red suit. :cool

I went to Costco yesterday and picked up a whole package of extra 9V and AA batteries for just that case. I should get at least 6 hours (hopefully 9) of light play time. Each of my inverters is wired to an easy to reach on/off toggle switch if I feel like I want to conserve power. So hopefully Sunday will be all set to go. I agree with having a "fix it" kit on hand. Screw driver, and gaffers tape should help a lot, I have a feeling it will. The only thing is I'm not sure if I'll bring a soldering iron. Regardless if the lights go out I still have the color green showing through so it'll still look cool..just not AS cool. ;)

All the new posts with your costumes...GREAT JOB!!! I love seeing everyone's work (especially those on limited time and budget) I know it took me 2 1/2 months of planning and work to get mine together not to mention $$$$$$$$$$$$$. If ANYONE is planning to go to West Hollywood Halloween Carnival on Sunday and sees me COME SAY HI and tell me you're here on RPF. It would be great to pose for pictures and post on here later.

Annisse, Tenebrae, I know you're west coasters so if you go PM me and I'll give you my cell so you can text and we can meet up at a good location. (first round is on me) ;)

Same goes for elecTRONica and the premiere in December if anyone is planning to come out.

WAY TO GO EVERYONE ON ALL YOUR HARD WORK!!!

Go have some fun, but also be safe out there!!! :)

Have a great time... again in your Tron costume 2nite ;) and make sure to stock up on those batteries. Hit the restroom to hide and recharge, throw in your new batteries and you're off! :D

OHHHH yes! I might be going to the WE HO street Halloween party! OMG! that is the best fun. Not certain if I am going or not, there is just too much going on and when you hit WE HO, you are kinda stuck in there for the night because it is just too crowded and hard to get outta there. What time do you think you will get there? If I go it will be early like 6 and stay till like 9 then hitting a club. But NO Quorra for me. If I party in my costume, that will be the end of it for sure HAHAHA I just know it. I'm gonna wear something silly and easy to put on. Been working the past 5 days, I kinda wanna relax and no can do in that Quorra costume of mine :p I will be too afraid the whole thing will fall apart.

Yes any one that can meet up at ElecTRONica let's do it! I might be going next Friday or Sat. and will wear my Quorra costume again. I have worn it twice already and some ppl thought I was one of the hired dancers that worked there LOL! It was awesome! So much more fun when you are dressed in a Tron costume or just any type of cyber costume that fits the whole theme ;)

Same for the premiere. I wanna see it on IMAX so, what do you think of viewing it at the Universal City Walk IMAX theater? I work on the Dec. 17th at night but have Dec. 18th Sat. off. I know you all are most likely gonna go on the 17th but if anyone is up for seeing it again on the 18th, let me know and I am definately suiting up for it and my costume will be lite up by then!

Let's all keep in touch! YAY! :D

Hi all,
For the past few weeks I've been creeping the forums and trying to get ides for my costume this year. I finally finished it on Wednesday and thought I'd post some pics. For now I only have a few pics from my office.

I have a few other photos as well: Twitpic / JonathanBuyco

The outfit is all made out of leather with a few fabric patches under the arms and the crotch. The helmet is just hilarious to me :) I initially was going to use glow paint (I actually ordered 8oz) but it didn't arrive on time and the reflective tape works great (so if anyone is interested in buying some aqua glow paint let me know:)). The leather was all bought at discount/thrift stores and altered to conform to my body (so the suit is very form fitting).

The identity disc i bought at Kmart and lined it with reflective tape, then mounted using magnets on my back.

@Annisse - I have to thank you for the idea of reflective tape. I actually used the tape with sticky adhesive (and not the fabric) and it turned out quite well. It conforms with the leather and it has to because of the areas that bend quite a bit.

Tomorrow night my friend is going to take some more photos, we'll see how that goes!

Hey all just joined this forum tonight from the Land Down Under, I am in process of designing and making a suit but limited budget, not looking for something for movie premiere but something half decent looking. I have been looking at all the posts and am still up air over costume lighting, I thinking reflective tape and neoprene for armor on a black undersuit (have ordered a bit of EL Wire to test though).

So point of post is cheap black undersuit? Can't find anything decently priced! Any Aussies know where to get a cheap black undersuit? In fact an suggestions to source materials in Australia would be appreciated :)
