My friend's halloween party is tonight so the fun begins now. I re-did the thigh pieces last night front and back. Also did some cable management and put more velcro strips to hold the 8AA battery packs in place.

For the padded shorts some people are using...a word of advice.

Try and find padded shorts with hard plastic armor on the outside in the places you want to lay the lighting (either your EL sheet or EL wire). It just gives it a firm backing that won't bend or move around much.

For my shorts I really liked the look but I knew the EL sheet pieces were going to move around where they pleased. Sure enough on my pics you'll notice the right leg is off.

To get around this, I went to an art store and bought a sheet of black felt. It had a firmness to it, but it was flexible enough. I just cut it slightly bigger than the design, glued the EL piece to it and then sewed the thing on.

Now the EL sheet pieces stay in place and the design looks more true to form. Just something to keep in mind when working with EL sheet. Always look to fix the design piece to a hard surface by using a good adhesive like liquid nails. If that isn't possible, just glue the piece to something like felt and sew it on. You don't want the EL sheet bending and flexing too much, so give it a good backing to take some of the stress off of it.

So actordiver, if a girl walks up to you and asks: 'So...how does one get you out of that armor?' your response would be?

Fist off, (from your first post) I originally didnt put light tape on the pants so that I'd be able to move, dance, SIT, and still be comfortable. So I added the reflective tape instead. Now I kinda wish I had light tape, but the proof on decision will be after Halloween, we'll see. Glad you were able to make it work out.

as for answering that question you could do it several ways:

"I'm "programed" to remove it for the right one"
"Depends on if you like to get a "jolt" in you"
"What's your "shock" tolerance" (then smile or wink)
"Why, you wanna get "lit up"?"

it goes on and on... :D

ps, I did intentionally make my costume to be removed somewhat easily. All the pieces have there own on/off switch. The shin guards power the side leg light tape and can be disconnected with a quick disconnect.

That's also why I made the undershirt in case I got hot and wanted to be more comfortable (which just by testing I did) The leather jacket and pants make you get hot, plus wearing the helmet, I don't want to be a sweaty mess. ;)

Let me know of any other answers you come up with and/or what you said to said girl..You can message me if you don't want to post ;)

Just got your facebook friend request. This goes for any of you, just look on my profile page and shoot me a friend request. Just tell me you're from the RPF so I know who you are. ;)

So far I have actordiver and Annisse added.

I can always help if you have a question about your costume that you need a specific solution for. Seems I'm the EL sheet expert until someone else de-thrones me. I'm sending any EL tape questions directly to actordiver and soulinertia. EL Wire is Eddy's territory. ;)

Just INCREDIBLE Compass!!! Great job!!! I even kinda like the wiring showing (gives it that "program" feel) but I'm sure you're like me and want it totally smoothed out with nothing showing.

major kudos!!

PS..forget the candy, bring on the margaritas!!!!

Actordiver, do you have more pics of your final costume. Looks good!

Hi costume makers!

I'm new to the forum and I'm really interested in making a costume myself for the new movie. I've been reading all of the previous posts, and it's all been great information, but it's hard to keep track of who did what for their costumes and how the final look came about. Could some of you who have completed their costumes do a review/run-through of the steps and materials you used? This would be very helpful! :)

Finally done!!

As far as the lights on scott's and quorra's suit may have to do with the color temp of the light source along with the CT setting on the camera... Coming from a photographers point of view, color balance of the camera vs the light source (s) of the suit and ambient light may make white look somewhat blue.
Try this, set your camera to tugstin (the light bulb) and take a pic of something white in daylight. The tugstin setting makes daylight somewhat blue... So it is possible that the lights are white, yet cast as blue tue to camera settings.

Thanks for the invite. I doubt I'll be able to get over there. Sounds like fun!! I'll have to put this convention down on the list when I launch my new webseries. :)

I wish we could all go to ElecTRONica together! Everyone would be blown away!!!! :O

I would be OK with flying over there if we can get enough of us with finished costumes to make an impact. I just need some notice so I can arrange a vacation day or two.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! Why don't we plan something like a week before the premiere in December? Time enough to get costumes together and get time off of work. :)

I didnt have time to wire up my costume because on Monday my fiance decided she wanted me to make her a Quorra costume...

I think they look pretty good with just the 3m reflective tape.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

And oh yeah...two costumes for just over $100 (counting the el wire not yet used).
