Tron Legacy Costume

ok guys let me start off by saying YOU ALL ROCK!! :cool Great job with all the costumes! I've been watching this thread for a few weeks now and I'm finally done with the construction of my Quorra costume, now it's time to put the EL on....

Which leads me to my question for you all. I'm using a EL/reflective tape combo on this. I really like how the reflective tape photographs but I wanted it to light up as well so I used both. What color for the reflective tape do you think I should use? I bought blue but it's really dark when it's not reflecting any light but the perfect color reflected. I've also seen that many of you are using white or silver for Sam or Quorra.

What would you guys do?

Trooper, There was someone who, earlier in this massive thread, talked about a sew on reflective tape that was whitish-silver that had a layer of plastic covering the reflective part. I'd think it may be something available from a safety store. You could cut out lengths of that and feed the wire through it. Not only will it contain the wire, but it should also reflect in Lower-light environs (I think). The only one of that type I was able to find though (granted I only looked in 1 safety shop) was a yellow/silver version instead of the white/silver. Hope that helps!

Oh you're a lifesaver!!! I already decided to go with the blue (since I had it already and I only have TWO DAYS LEFT!!!!) but I was considering re-doing it after the premier. Thanks so much!!

Awesome!!!! My IPhone weather app. says it's gonna rain in L.A. this Friday!!!!! Uggghhhh! It better not. I definately can not wear my costume in the rain. :(

You could ABSOLUTELY wear your costume. Just put a rain jacket over it and carry an umbrella till you get inside!!! DO NOT waste all this time and effort and not wear it on Friday...Rain or shine!!!

See you all Friday!!

@gams001: I also like to THANK YOU for the compliment and noticing the direction I was going for. I think I can still keep it TRON-like and yet make it unique in someway(yeah 'steppin out of the "NORM' would be a exact way of describing it). Just like yours, you too done a great job creating a new character and yet still kept it noticeable. I think we can pass as those 'scenery characters' and have our own 'undiscovered story' to tell oneday....be funny-cool if somehow we was the 'inspiring drive' for a couple programmers-characters in that adaptation-comic of TRON: Betrayal!:lol

Funny you should say that Costumer, my pal you will meet this Sat at the TRON event in NYC and I are working on a three-part series of comics, set in the TRON Grid world. We'll talk about the possible use of costumes here and from others. If we have needs of fresh ideas, we'll call upon the forums folk to be a part of the goofiness! :love

Is it bad if you're only 85% done with your suit and are going to the midnight showing on Wednesday? ;-) Almost there folks!

Good Luck and I hope you are almost finished with your costume! I know how you feel. I am franticly trying to finish mine by friday and probably will be till the end when I have to put it on. I hate that! and hope I can at least have a trial run and put the thing on by Thursday night and take a few pics. Have fun at your screening!

Annisse, Slightly back-tracking question for you:

I'm looking into making a CLU costume and probably taking the cheaper option of going the Reflective Tape route.

I know you used tape for your DragonCon version, and wanted to know how you got the circles on your disc to look so nice and round when you made them with the tape? Was it just excruciatingly detailed masking with electrical tape or some other way?

Thanks.

Not to butt in here, but there is always the option of using a wide strip (doubled up maybe) of the reflective tape and then just using a Cutting Compass, as found in places like Home Depot, to cut perfect circles in most softer materials.

That is exactly what I did and not. I should have used a compass but I didn't have one and didn't take the time to go get one. My circles are not that perfect the middle black circles in the reflective, if you look closely. I cut them as perfect as I could but even with a compass it is very difficult to cut out perfect circles, even with a rotary cutter. You really have to take your time.

Even for my new illuminated Quorra build. I made the main light circles with electrical tape. From far away they look fine and in pictures but if you look close up, they are not. I am aiming to cut the middle black circles perfectly which I am doing tomorrow. All my light stripes are finally now attached to my new latex chest armor. It was literally one whole day 24 hours of work if I had worked on it straight. I breathed so much contact and rubber cement in I will be lucky if I have any brain cells left :confused but it was worth it! :thumbsup

No kidding. I must justify why I just ruined my health this last month killing myelf to finish this costume.

I AM WEARING QUORRA FRIDAY RAIN OR SHINE!!!! :)

Re: Tron Legacy Costume planning - I got HOW MANY DAYS to get this suit done by?!

AMAZING work Costumer!!!! Good Luck finishing your costume and have a great time at your screening!!! I think we are getting more and more anxious with anticipation and excitement for Friday. I know I have not slept well this week. Not because I am totally drained from all this work but because of all the fun we will have and finally going to see this movie!!! :D

So, as I fan-fanatically counting down the days of the long long awaited movie, I also franticly trying to get my suit done!

Thanks, Annisse. Yeah, I'm almost done. Hard to believe really. But unfortunately I'm at that part where it could all fall apart if it doesn't work out just right. I'mtrying to attach my light panels made of posterboard, packing tape, Shower curtain, and Gorilla tape to my "Tri-Tex" (probably just a combonation of synthetic fabrics) vest. I'm using a combination of E-6000 and Hot Glue, which I HOPE TO THE GODS will hold it on there and not come off with movement. I'll have to check the hold on some of the panels in the morning, but if it doesn't stick, I'll have to go someplace and DEMAND contact cement. Can you believe I went to 5 stores and no one had it in stock? Closest thing I could find was model cement.

Anyway, that aside, after these get anchored, it's all about wire management... and spare wire anchoring. Something I'm also not looking forward to. :wacko

Anyway, pics will be up on here as soon as a majority of it is wearable and on the WIP thread I link in my sig. Can't wait to see your final product, m'dear! You've been here since the very start!

PS: Costumer, I am jealous with envy at that amazing base layer for your suit. I cannot WAIT to see it lit up! It's gonna look Fan-frakking-tastic!

Hi guys,

Sorry to say my costume is not on time for the premiere. Too much researching before choosing a route about lights. Not satisfied with EL Wire, neither EL Tape, EL Sheet is too expensive and I'm not confident about accuracy in this way.

I'm still researching about the best B plan, (well, C plan, since Elastolite is not afforable either).
I found some interesting things not discussed here, as silicone strips and Leds, and bought some samples of other new things, and I have to try what is best.
As soon as I choose a way I will post pics and info, sure, for everyone.

I wish you all the best folks, you really rock in your suits.

I already have my ticket for the new improved cinema tecnology just opened in Barcelona, in Full HD3D. Just can't wait.

See ya!

Thanks, Annisse, and I must say that your 'Quarro' look is sure gonna KICK BUTT that night of your movie viewing! I have to so agree and know your feeling on your quote here. I still got some stuff to do, but strange under some 'pressure' things are starting to just 'fall into PLACE' and I'm gonna keep going on that track! Here's the redone gloves with longer wrist but required so I can do the EXACT measurements for fitting over my arm-sleeves(with velcro). :thumbsup

My real added bonus was finding my HUB-bie problem solved with three simple things I was able to get: a 4.5x4(circumference)x1.5 inches hgt.container(4/$1 at any dollar store), adhesive black foamie sheet(for around the container) and my leftover Pleather fabric. Once figuring it out, measuring, cutting and sewing it - VIOLA!

And let me tell you this: This S.O.A.B. STAYS IN PLACE(fits REAL TIGHT)! If it stays on any tighter, I may have to rip-off my suit's back just to get it off! LOL :lol So, next step is working quickly a backpanel to hold it(sew sew sew real thick thread tight to it) and then velcro it in place(this well be OVER the zipper in back). :thumbsup

Now, the NEXT couple tasks for me are: Helmet readiness(went through like three failed ideas and scrap-fabric before finding the right size measurements) and then tonight(and YES I MEAN TONIGHT): the EL WIRE work.:eek

OK, I'll keep saying to myself(as I pull my hair out and nibble my nails to the numbs of finger) "I'm gonna MAKE IT - it's gonna be DONE!" over and over again! :D

Just HATING that I didn't learn MUCH EARLIER to modify my disc to stay lit, but NEXT TIME oh man is it gonna STAY-LIT(with hopefully a BETTER power-source)!

Wow! Everyone's outfits are looking amazing! I saw it Monday and can say that everyone will fit on the grid quite nicely :cool

In my usual last minute panic I'm ordering a bunch of EL Tape from GlowHut.com down in SoCal and picking it up tonight. If anyone in LA needs any truly last minute bits & pieces let me know.

If I were a bit more comfortable with my body shape I would totally do one of these. The helmets especially are cool. Maybe I'll just do a couple of those to add to my collection instead...
