Tron Legacy Costume

As I re-read over bays overdriving the inverter issue. Not quite sure if I agree about only being able to hook up less than 6 meters of El Wire to a 12V inverter.

so I wouldnt recommend running less than 6 metres on a 12V driver

wouldnt recommend

wouldnt

ie. 12v is great for longer lengths :thumbsup

edit: just to clarify, its the shorter lengths that will burn out the inverter ... you can connect 100, 200 feet or EL wire to an inverter, thats not going to do any damage (its also not going to glow very brightly). Its when you have a short length of EL wire (I estimate I had 3meters connected to my 12v) that the chance for the inverter to overheat is increased. Shorter the length = greater the chance. Thats why you should never turn your inverter on without EL wire connected ... in effect you are supplying power to the few inches of wire connected to the inverter

Re: Tron Legacy Costume planning - YES finally finished my suit!

Yes yes yes - I FINALLY FINISHED my suit and it looks SO AWESOME....almost like IN THE MOVIE! Take a look at it!

Jealous of me now? :lol

Uggghhhh!!! My bad. Sorry. I failed. I have been running on next to no sleep trying to get my costume done. Sorry I read this wrong.

Oh man. But I actually have left my drivers on for God knows how many hours, no el wire attached by accident. I have on/off switches that were accidently pushed on and my driver never fried up and in still working condition. Just drained all the battery juice of course. That's why I have always trusted Coolneon.com, they got some good s*it ;)

Well, here I go again, another all nighter withmy costume and yes I pray for no rain. Otherwise, all that work for nothing, at least for this Friday it will be.

Why?!?!?!! Why?!?!? This is driving me crazy all these pre screenings!!!! Someone just sent me this. Hurry! You still have time, I am sure the line is only a mile long if you go wait now ;)

Got to hold out till Friday! Got to hold out!!!

http://bitcast-a-sm.bitgravity.com/slashfilm/wp/wp-content/images/TRONscreenings.jpg

As I read on Flynn Lives, the screening was gonna start at 7pm, BUT, it said no more lines were gonna be admited after 5pm. I'M MAD :angry I couldn't make it there on time.

Now THAT'S cool! :lol If it rained, i'd TOTALLY use one of those :'D

**********. I just gave up on my costume since the ELwire won't work :cry I can't turn it on (What's weird is that last week it worked PERFECTLY.)
I'll just wear my Flynn Lives shirt and hang my identity disc on my back for the premiere :c

If the inverter heats up, you probably have a short. Check for flaking phosphorescent coating(I'm not sure how you would see it) at bends/kinks and touching wires at the cut end. If the inverter doesn't do anything, you probably have a break somewhere. Check your solder connections and work from the inverter side towards the end. I make sure to encase it in hot glue to seal it from any movement or moisture. Rain or shine, I'm wearing my costume friday!

Anisse, If you still got that 4.5' of extra EL wire by friday, I'll take it off your hands. My 4yr old is on his iron man kick, so I got my next costume project cut out for me at 1/2 scale. LOL
And you got to wear your costume! We'll be indoors half the time anyway. I bet you could hide a purse umbrella in the baton!

Power test complete. 4.5 hours and I'm still lit. I can't say enough for these rechargeables.

Yeah, rain or shine if I'm flying from Philly I'm not going to have my costume hanging on a clothes rack in the hotel room. I'll take my chances. There isn't anything on this costume that I can't fix if it breaks.

;)

I'll definietly have to check the inverter. I want to take my suit to the premiere so badly!

So I just got back from an early screening and lemme tell you, AMAZING, just the visuals and sound track, it all just came together soo well. And to let you all know from what we saw Cora, Sam and Flynn's lights were always white. I dunno if its how the suits photograph that give them a blue hue some times, but the only real blue or teal suits I saw were some of the other Grid Warriors and citizen programs.

i was at a flynn lives screening too (i played the a.r.g.).

i think the el panels are white but have a slight bluish tint to them. my modified shoes w/el panels are that way.

buried in this thread somewhere i linked to a behind the scenes on the tron legacy costumes. one shot from a non-cinematic camera shows a grid warrior in blue/cyan and then sam in white. this is helpful to deduce that it's not a camera filter or effect per se.

also, the movie posters are always enhanced so can't really go by that for the actual colour.

My girlfriend and I made Tron and Yori outfits for Halloween (I actually made the Tron one back in May for a party). The pads used reflective tape and we used glow paint for the unitards

Is it bad if you're only 85% done with your suit and are going to the midnight showing on Wednesday? ;-) Almost there folks!

Re: Tron Legacy Costume planning - I got HOW MANY DAYS to get this suit done by?!

So, as I fan-fanatically counting down the days of the long long awaited movie, I also franticly trying to get my suit done! :eek All the sewing and 'whatnots' of this has taking a crazy toll on my creative mind, but STILL I have determination to get it done(even if it's about a few hours before my midnight showing, BUT HOPE IT WON'T GET TO THAT POINT)! I have rough pics of the suit in its ALMOST completion but mind you:

1)I still haven't inserted my EL wire lights yet. That difficult task may be done by strategically sewing the wire onto & along the corners of the 3-D patterns(yep, I counted which corners are chosen and what best hand-stitch to use). The inverters will be hidden in pouch in the back of me(velcro-holding also)while the lead-wires will be 'hidden' within the suit

2) The shoulders' pattern must be finish sewn.

3) The gloves have to be redone(that be quick) for they don't go over my sleeves very well(and the use of velcro to keep them in place).

4) My Helmet will be covered with the same fabrics(just drawn out how to make the pattern) - I got a idea of how it will you like.

5) I have a idea for the HUB for the disc to stay on the back(found a plastic container that has a circumference that fit it quite well with some adjustments for tight hold).

And the Disc has a Holographic label on both sides to add some kind of 'difference' to it(and to separate MINE from the OTHERS that will have theirs at the movies/party) - sorry for blurry pic!

I'm also debating to just put these 1/4 inch thick Polyethylene padding within the 3-D patterns to give it more 'armor look'(the suit is kinda tight enough with me and muscle-suit underneath it). Yep, still a few more things/alterations to get done and it may read like I'll be 'sweating up a storm' and that's why parts of the suit also have breathable fabric for just situation(or if I need to feel a nice cool breeze in those AREAS).;) I will say that movability is still good and I think after about half hour in the suit, it feel like almost a 'second skin'. I just have to make sure to 'relieve myself' before I put it on for the movie as well that big NYC TRON-Theme party this weekend too(so PSYCHED I got my tix to go)!:thumbsup

IMO Costumer, that looks great. Is the "hologram" fabric or another material?

As expected of Costumer.. excellent work and some really interesting variations from the 'norm' we have seen on screen and in pics thus far from TRON: Legacy. I love when people step outside of the norm and find their own voice in a cos. (but to those doing dead on Cos Mimics, WOW! too)

Aaahh I see...ok, thanks a lot for the info!!

Glad to be of help Kaiwalkerz. It's all experimentation still on my table.. by Jan-Feb I will bring a much, much better suit together.

Re: Reflective Tape on Disc

The back side, where the hole is located, is where the hub will protrude, the bowl I have it epoxied to is the "hump" shape Quorra has molded to her suit, this is how I am achieving it. But only that paper clay hub I made will be showing which my disk will sit on. This whole thing will be painted black.

Annisse, Slightly back-tracking question for you:

I'm looking into making a CLU costume and probably taking the cheaper option of going the Reflective Tape route.

I know you used tape for your DragonCon version, and wanted to know how you got the circles on your disc to look so nice and round when you made them with the tape? Was it just excruciatingly detailed masking with electrical tape or some other way?

Thanks.

Not to butt in here, but there is always the option of using a wide strip (doubled up maybe) of the reflective tape and then just using a Cutting Compass, as found in places like Home Depot, to cut perfect circles in most softer materials.

Hey thanks for compliment, MorbidCharlie. Yes, this is a Holographic fabric I borught in NYC for a past costume design and I loved how it looks! :love Also, I still had some leftover and this type of fabric IS NOT CHEAP per yard, so I be DAMNED to just let it sit here and not use the rest of what I had. :wacko Plus, it does have that very 'Grid-like' effect to it(as you can see how light reflects of it).:thumbsup

@gams001: I also like to THANK YOU for the compliment and noticing the direction I was going for. I think I can still keep it TRON-like and yet make it unique in someway(yeah 'steppin out of the "NORM' would be a exact way of describing it). Just like yours, you too done a great job creating a new character and yet still kept it noticeable. I think we can pass as those 'scenery characters' and have our own 'undiscovered story' to tell oneday....be funny-cool if somehow we was the 'inspiring drive' for a couple programmers-characters in that adaptation-comic of TRON: Betrayal!:lol

IMO Costumer, that looks great. Is the "hologram" fabric or another material?
