Tron Legacy Costume

now just gonna throw my two cents in there but, according to TRON: betrayal comic book, when clu first turned evil he was actualy green. then when he started building his army he turned yellow. they didnt show that in tron legacy but i guess it was just a mistake or a change of plans.
You sure? I own the comic too and he looks exactly like Flynn

I think he means when Clu first drops the Flynn style suit and moves over towards the Warrior armor.

One week to go before the big Tron party at a local con, I finally fired up my EL panels this evening.
I'm attaching the panels to my dress and jacket with Velcro.
Anyone have good ideas about how to get the panels to flatten out without stacking a ton of heavy books on them? They are shipped coiled but I need them to straighten out a bit.

I was considering this fact back when I first heard the movie was in the works. Color in TRON always set the stage for who you were looking at. Reds were 'bad guys', Blues being 'good guys'. When I put my TRON 1.5 look together, I had the idea of being a Viral Program that was hacked and recoded for 'good guy' status, hence why I have various colors on each section of the costume (Aqua on the inner armor as the 'heart' of his code and very much a blue like the programs that hacked him, Green on his outer armor to represent the remaining Yellow Viral Code that mixed with the Aqua during his rerezzing, etc.).

Yeah, RPers are the worst, ain't we. :p

Attention programs:

If you are looking for an affordable and cool alternative to leather pants, I may have just the thing. I was thinking about different materials and their finishes when I remembered a waxed cotton jacket I once had. So, I thought, why not black wax a pair of pants? Denim is cotton after all.

I went to the store bought a cheap pair of waxed jeans and polished them up. Turned out great!

Hit up your local dept stores, like Macy's etc and pick up a pair of waxed denim jeans. They don't need to be high grade or shiny. Any kind will do even ones that are not black, though black is less work. Take them home and polish them with canned wax (not the liquid kind) just like a pair of shoes. The end result is a very "on the Grid" look without the price of leather. They are much more breathable, too. You could even start with plain old black jeans, or cargo pants, but its a lot less work if they are already a little waxed.

Here's a pic of the finished product. The photo doesn't really do them justice. Trust me, they scream "Grid".

This sounds like a plausible solution for my boyfriend's pants. Question though, have you attempted scooting around or rubbing against objects to see if it would rub off easily? [I don't mean like butt surfing like dogs do lol]

I really don't want to be leaving little marks on furniture at conventions. >_<

No worries. I sat on my aqua colored suede couch without issue.

As long as it is done correctly, it will not come off. That is why you MUST use the right kind of polish AND SET IT correctly. To set a wax polish you need to buff it.
So, get a big soft buffing brush from the shoe section, or use an old t-shirt or sock. If you use the brush, just lay the pants flat and vigourously brush them until they shine. If you use a sock or t-shirt, put the pants on and rub accross side to side on your leg like you would se a shoe shine boy doing.
The importnat thing is that it is a soft substance to bring out the shine. The heat from the friction will seal it in. If you can, use canned KIWI Parade gloss. It has a nice stable even shine. If you use a low quality wax, or anything liquid, its going to come off on everything.

Also, that is why its best to start with jeans that are made already waxed. That way you know it is sealed in properly, and all you are doing is buffing out a good shine.

I found this costume and it doesn't look too bad any ideas on lighting it with el wire, tape, sheets, or led's.

This would be about equal to any standard costume you would buy at a Halloween Store. It's, by the standards of most CosPlayers.. garbage. The lines are in no way light-up and the suit will fit like a cotton sack on many people. If you are just buying a cheapo costume, it's fine I would think. If you want to impress and get the 'Ohhhh! Did you make this?!?' reaction, this is far from the mark.

yes thats exactly what im talking about!

You might also notice.. Clu's Guard have the same greenish hue.

It looks like it is just fabric, which would make it difficult to hide the wiring and other necessary items to get it to light up. It could work as a good base to work off of, or maybe some pajamas.

For those of us that are, or will be, in the NYC area on Friday Night May 6th, 2011.. we have another Black Light event with a fun twist: MARS 2112 is the location!

The Facebook listing for the event

MARS 2112 NYC

The Kosume Kult is holding this event (the same group that held a HUGE! TRON: Legacy Movie Release Party in NYC back in Dec 2010) and it also happens to fall on my birthday weekend, so as a fellow TRON-EE, the invite goes out to the forums to come an enjoy the party in a setting that is utterly 'alien' to your average club/con. Let's shock and thrill the crowd with UV/Reflective/LED/EL GLORY!

The place, which is a semi-club/bar/eatery, looks like this:

If you can't view the party info, or need more details, feel free to send me a message and I will give what I know.

This is the setup from the Dec 2010 event:

sweet, so im guessing we are gonna make this an official event now? other than that who was the guy with the sweet clu colored jacket?

Did he use EL tape or reflective tape? and did he say how he applied it to his suit?

So glad to see that all you guys had a blast and Security didn't ruin your fun, (so sorry that you were excluded, Annisse... They couldn't stop you from wearing the wig, though. Ha) makes me wish I could go to elecTRONica... or that Disney would have done anything over here. Did anybody get away with having a Jacket with a Disc Hub? For being so strict, they let a lot of clearly-TRON stuff past the radar. I'm so glad so many elaborate designs made it inside.

shogunvader... that jacket is amazing, man. Love the matching tie as well.

Sorry for the uber late response, geez this thread is super popular! But thank you all. I do plan to revamp that jacket, add more lines and make another for mcp counter part. I'm done with the trench coat. After seeing the quorra cotour dress, annisse end of line waitress, concepts and the concept sketch book I've decided to lean away from warrior and go the fashion route end of line club wear.

Its reflective tape on nylon fabric, stitched on a fleece jacket. Super dirt cheap. Jacket $6 from thrift store, reflective tape $10, 1 sq yrd of nylon $7. I will be posting a "how too" start to finish for my revamps.

Benefit of the jacket was that I can pull out those stitches without permanent damage, and save those patches.

What you saw was uber dirt cheap, I'm so jealous of those that glow. But hopefully things will get better and I'll be able to afford the tech. Until then I'm keeping it cheep.

Hit me up if you have direct questions.
