Tron Legacy Costume

PlastiDip is some wonderful stuff. You can dip an object into it for a clean shell of plastic. There is a spray version, though I have heard nothing but horror stories of it. It paints on like any other thick paint. You must be sure to set your strokes in 1 direction only, going back and forth will make a mess of your project as the PD starts to adhere and dry almost instantly.

That looks pretty neat. So it smooths out enough not to show brush strokes?

That application was done slowly, thin, with a sponge brush ($0.39), taking only about 20 secs. Brush strokes, if you go slow and move in one direction, tend to fade as the PD spreads out a bit.

You can get a 14.5floz can of the stuff at HomeDepot or other such store for about $6.00. I think it's safe to assume I can coat an entire male sized armor set, with two coats, for about $12.00-$18.00 total. Having now tested it on the foam I will be using for a new armor design this summer, I intend to use it to seal the whole suit before painting.

Oh it's true, there is no pricing for the Etco without wiring. I just told them I wanted unwired and they charged me 0.35 each. I bought 50. I hope it's enough to make all the connections I'm needing.

Patrick, the guy at customer service, was extermely nice to me. Not extremely fast on response, but very patient with all my questions.

I don't know where on that Price Sheet you see $0.35 for each ETCO, but still.. better than $1.00 for pre-wired clips I can easily create myself in seconds. Link?

How well does EVA hold its shape? Does it stiffen up or still foam like but shaped?

EVA Foam, basically the interlocking high-density floor plates found in children's play areas or gyms. You can buy sets of 4-6 plates 2ft x 2ft for $15-$17 at places like KMart or Harbour Frieght, 3/8in thick and in various patterns.

It holds its shape surprisingly well when formed. Once it's heated it is like semi-soft rubber. It will bend and quickly cool into it's new position. It is sure as heck not 'strong', but it is stronger than most would expect for foam to be.

All Red leather or rubber suit with Black 3M Reflective Tape would be fun to see. Black ELTape I have never heard of nor seen before.
I considered that but it would look really corny, I'm not into corny, I want it to look all scuffed and dull for this design, which I'm still working on the perfect picture.

Sounds like a good source to me. TY for that insight.

A bit super heroish, yes. :rolleyes

A black TRON armor suit, the armor plates in dark red tones, with black reflective tape accents.. maybe not a bad idea.

haha, thanks, glad you liked it :thumbsup

:ninja but it wasn't too difficult, have you seen Sharkhead's Hd helmet file o_O,

Being somewhat new to armor and costuming, I am REALLY trying to avoid going the Pep route. I can see easy fiberglass addiction in that method. :rolleyes

Anyone know what kind of components you can attach to an EL tape/sheet circuit to make the lights flicker like it does in the movie? (Like an old fluorescent lamp)

Isn't there a strobe capacitor or something for lights like in computers that stroke with music, there has to be something like that for EL tape.

I'm curious to know what you all think about this jacket I found. Considering that the Flynn jacket was more than likely a modified Alphine NYC perforated jacket, I was searching along those lines. I came across this. I'm pretty confident that this could be suitable enough after modifications.

I just realized that this jacket looks extremely similar to the styles in Ghost in the Shell and some of the Final Fantasy games. If you have money to spend, you may want to look at Cosplay costume makers on ebay and such. I'm sure you could find a really cool mod-able jacket.

Most ELWire and ELTape companies sell Sound Drivers/Inverters. They will have OFF, ON, Sound Flash settings, normally.

As to 'flickering' that is not set cycle flashing, that's above my head.

Ok, guys.

Update on the custom made cycle suit. I heard back from the company and we have been communicating back and forth. They are currently in the process of making a mock up image of the suit using the materials I gave them. They are quoting $450 give or take a few bucks. Here is what I gave them (thanks Soulinertia) and a pic of a reflective suit they just made for someone else. Looks like good work.

Wonder if they would work with ELTape and ELWire. :)

Not sure if I would spend $450+ on it, but it looks like a nice toy for those willing to throw some coin around.

Luminous film has the Etco clips

Tis true. I spoke with them via email today and the clips are confirmed at: $0.35 each, minimum order of 24 required.
