The Ultimate Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi Real Vintage Parts Lightsaber Group

Mine was a clean break, like yours, but I also has a smaller tear right next to it and I was worried if I made the band too tight repairing it that it would tear again.

Because the band is pressure-fit it’s usually already tight but when I would wrap my broken band around the windvane no matter how hard I squeezed it was impossible for me to get the ends of the break to touch. I could get close but not touching. I was worried if I tried to solder or weld the band together at the break when I tried to slip it over the windvane blades it would break again under the tension.

I thought about trying to solder/weld the band together with no seam and sand/file the windvane blades down until the band fit snug but I decided I didn’t want to modify the windvane that much so I decided just to JB Weld it with a copper filler strip.

Keep in mind I did this repair back in like 2005 and my skills were not as good as they are now. I also meant to cut a thin piece from a copper tube and sand/file/shape it until it fit the gap but I never did so my repaired band is super ugly. But it is repaired and it’s the least modified as I could make it, plus I can still undo what I did and do something different if I want since JB Weld is not permanent.

Maybe you could file the fins so they are not as long which would allow for the band to fully make its way around if you ever come back to fixing it.

Thanks mate. Gonna see what our goldsmith says when I pop over on Thursday, I’ll try wrapping it round in the morning to see if it’ll touch. If not, may consider sending to Scott. Ty for the advice!

Hi all, I am new here and new to this very uneconomical hobby (haha). I would love to see some of your finished Obi’s. I know I could scroll back through threads, but thought some of you may want to share your pics again, and that it would be a good way to get familiar with some of you.

Thanks !

Hi ChrisRWars ... welcome to therpf ... I'm very curious to see the grenade section that goes with your windvane after repairs ... meanwhile here's an overview of all the vintage all real parts lightsabers currently posted in my new Obi-Wan ANH Lightsaber Picture Index :

These are all so nice. Can’t wait to finish mine and commission one Amazing stuff from everybody.

P.s here’s a pic of the one needing repair before it snapped. Although she may already be sold

Just real quick also - for the one I’m keeping, it still has a light brown paint all over it. Whats the best thing to do with it in terms of stripping the paint? Do I re-coat in a particular colour or..? Here’s the pic of my personal as a memory jog

…think we are going to see a newly completed obiwan very soon…
Ha! Nah man. I’ve broke myself doing this.. it’ll be a longggg while yet. But it’s a patient man’s game. (getting handwheels this weekend, and a male balance pipe for conversion from Lewis Petch arriving soon hahahahaha) god I hate myself.

I saw a certain video on YouTube of a very happy owner of the last part he needs

It’s wicked exciting

A big thank you to Lewis for this really lovely male Bp. Unfortunately, it’ll be a while before I can afford to buy a female one - but who knows if the opportunity will ever be there, so I’m grateful for what I can get.

I’m on the fence about getting this converted.. although it’ll look the part, it just wouldn’t be the same. I’ll have to think on that

Lewis wherever you may be, much appreciated.

P.s. thank you for selling this to me on eBay. I hadn’t a clue how this forum worked beforehand

I’m unsure as to whether I’ll be rechroming my vintage AS handwheel .. with the likes of Roman / Dave p’s replicas they’re just so close to perfect. Think I might keep in the original condition. Any opinions on this?

if anybody needs one or two keep a lookout in the next couple days as I’ll have give or take around 5 spare on the junkyard ;) (h/c) (please wait until they're up there for detailed pics and to go through the right thread)

Show us your vintage AS handwheel ChrisRWars ... I sincerely doubt it needs any rechroming to be part of an Obi-Wan lightsaber ;)

Here you go!

There are actually five, the last is in the garage and a right pain to remove. Two off to bath are too big, had no idea :(

- They need a clean first of all, second of all, the far left one has half its chrome off (lol) and the right three are missing chrome in splatters, so not terribly bad at all

I think needs must, so I’ll probably get a quote to have them done. But vintage and real parts they are!
