The Mandalorian (TV series)

I get what he's referring to. The star wars paradigm is "how would the 1970's think this worked", so we get headsets on the falcon gunnery stations that have wires; because wireless connections on things that size just weren't done. There's a way to approach star wars tech that has stayed pretty solidly in place for the last few decades. The auto landing jet pack is a little outside of THAT paradigm, because the 1970's would have thought of a jet pack as just that. two holes that fire spits out and pushes you, maybe they wiggle around a little, but it's controlled by the pilot wearing it. The understanding that the only way a jet pack like that "works" is if most of it is complicated and automated, then the wrist controls from such a distance, then the self landing, are all on the periphery, at best, of the 1970's paradigm. for us it's old hat, but it's starting to edge outside of the original bounds, because star wars HAS to progress some as time goes on, or else we'll all be dead bored of it soon enough.

That’s something I liked about Solo compared to the prequels. They got the tech right in Solo and Rogue One, but the prequels did not make any sense as taking place chronologically before the OT.

I think they were really trying to hammer home the "more civilized age" concept. Where things we sleeker and better functioning. The idea being that the shift on focus of the empire went to ultra mass production utilitarian; which would impact the design and production capabilities of all manufacturers.

And the only things that survived the transition from before, were things like ultra durable yt1300s. And even then, they all looked like garbage (the falcon never gets repaired back past it's bare bones look)

Chapter 10: The Passenger might be my favorite episode so far. I love the writing and dialogue.

There was one exchange I thought was interesting:

Mandalorian: "May the Force be with you."
Pilot: "And also with you."

The episode was written by Favreau and I swear that must be a reference to his Catholic half because it is just like what we say in mass - "May the Lord be with you." "And also with you." In the 1970's my friends and I would say that all the time.

Yeah but that also tied in with George's early drafts of the OT when he was working out the phrasing.

Some variations had the characters saying things like,

"May the Force of others be with you."

So part of it may be what you're referring to, but it also may be a really obscure nod to George's early concepts. Normally I don't like to bring up those ideas but this seemed to be relevant to what you're talking about. George's revisionist mentality makes him a really terrible source for talking points when discussing Star Wars because his ideas end up being so nebulous and malleable that they often contradict themselves. Which is incredibly ironic when you consider he is credited with creating it all, and yet he's the most unreliable source to quote when trying to prove a point.

Ironically the lore and history of Mandalorians is the least interesting part of this show to me. I haven't been able to define it yet but this show feels like it's missing something. I'm enjoying it and I appreciate the care and obvious love put into it, but there is some key ingredient that it lacks. I think eventually I'll figure it out but until then I'll continue to enjoy the show, I'll just never love it.
The word you're looking for is..."lightsabers." :p

Said it before and I'll say it again... I would watch the HELL out of a Bo Katan show...

I found this exchange funny because Mando clearly knows the phrase, but has no idea what it means. He doesnt realise "The Force" is the magic power the Child has. Its just a phrase that gets thrown around without much meaning.

I think what’s missing is “well-written characters”. All this other stuff is meant to be in service to the characters, who should be the focus of the show, not lore or fan service or gimmicks or anything else. All that stuff can be fun when used correctly, but without a proper focus on character and writing, these might as well just be YouTube fan films with no story at all, just fight choreography and fan service.

Also, let’s not forget the time someone else thought “more lightsabers is better”…

It seems to me that the phrase,

"May the Force be with you" really only held a lot of significance in the original three films. Since that time it's become less and less meaningful as more films and content are made. That's not so much a criticism as it is an observation.

Hell yes! There has been talks of a female spin off series. So I'm assuming this could mean Bo, Ahsoka and Sabine. Which I'd definitely watch!

We need to complete the Ezra/Thrawn story at some point. And Thrawn is far creepier than Moff to me. He makes a very compelling villain and would translate to live action fairly well.

I think it’s fun seeing the jetpack stuff. It’s done well and used relatively sparingly. I also wanted to point out, I really loved the exterior walkway on that Imperial cargo ship. Super cool, and reminded me of like, a zeppelin or something like that.
I just liked seeing the Gozanti in a live action production since it's one of my favorite Imperial ships. This was one of the things that I really like about Rebels, not every Imperial ship that we saw was a Star Destroyer. I hope that if we see more Imperial ships in this show we'll see more animated ships, like the Light Cruiser, and only one ISD with it being the flagship of Moff Gideon.

I agree with all of this except the part about the Ewoks. True that they captured the Rebels, namely Luke & co but that was in cleverly hidden trap. The Imps were engaging them in open combat, granted they got ambushed in several cases but you'd think that their armor would be more than good enough to protect from stone age weapons.

Weren’t they largely inspired by the Vietcong? A lesser armed force with the home court advantage being able to fend off a “superior” foe.

I was introduced to Ewoks as a child so they’ve never bothered me, but even now I can see where their success came from. They also had a fairly high attrition rate as well as Rebel backup once things really got cooking.

'Twas a joke...hence the emoji ;)

Yes, Vietnam war influenced Lucas’ story.
