The Mandalorian (TV series)

Loved the episode, but I do have one gripe, and this isn't just so much this show it is Star Wars in general. I'm really tired of how Stormtroopers are always shown as just buffoons who can't hit the broad side of a barn and their armor is practically worthless.

How many times have we had the discussion that maybe they were told to not hit Luke, Han and Leia on the Death Star? So, okay, if we accept that then they should probably be portrayed as being pretty badass at most other times. Obi Wan seemed to think they were pretty accurate. So, they should be. I mean, these are the soldiers that took over the galaxy when the Empire arose. If they are so totally inept, why even have them?

Has there ever been anything in Star Wars, other than fan films, that shows the battle capability of the Empire's elite Stormtroopers? I would really like to see some troopers doing some total whoopass. Like Vader in R1.

I really get tired of seeing them as just a joke.

My kids are teenagers and we have had the BEST time watching Clone Wars and Rebels for the last few months. Really like em. The last 4 episodes of season 7 CW are some of the best if not the best Star Wars since the OT.

This episode of Mando was fantastic. I like the perspective on the Empire struggling to continue and the Darksaber quest is a great continuation/crossover.

If you have a few million buffoon troopers and the other guys don't have an army, it's vastly more than enough to keep/cement control over the galaxy.

The only time in SW we see any 'military' is:
In the prequels: Separatists (droids) vs the Republic (clones) - and technically, one guy controlled them both. The clones were OK'd by the senate because there wasn't any other standing army to help

in the OT: The empire (the continuation of the clones) vs a small group who banded together because they didn't like the empire (no one else had a standing military it appears)

In the ST: FO comes in and the new republic has no standing army so Leia forms the resistance (still a stupid name)

So, throughout the entire duration, the only standing army that seems to exist in the galaxy belongs to the Emperor or the remnants of the empire.

If you have a few million buffoon troopers and the other guys don't have an army, it's vastly more than enough to keep/cement control over the galaxy.

So, I at least feel like many of the storm troopers in Mandalorian are at least OK line trooper type guys, and they're just thrust into new situations.

In the EU, there was Imperial Army, Navy, and Storm Troopers. Army and Navy fit into traditional roles, but Storm Troopers reported directly up to the Emperor. Stormies were loyal to the Emperor, not any military branch or commander. They were scary mo'fos. And went through rough training requirements to. They often worked along side Army or Navy, but they weren't actually in their chain of command.

And I still have to subscribe to the idea that the stormies were ordered to put on a good show for Luke and crew on the death star, if leia could look at that whole situation and go "yup, that was on purpose.".

The best representations of stormies doing well in the movies are the Tantive, and Echo base. They storm the ship through one narrow door, and there's... what, two dead troopers they have to pull out of the way when vader comes on board? And echo base just gets rofflestomped.

Unfortunately, the stormie's greatest crimes are that we only really get to see them interact with the heroes, which just does not turn out well for their reputation.

Since then, the background has been officially changed to be that while there was once an imperial military, the storm trooper side of the military was used to replace all the rest of it, becoming the defacto standard military trooper.

The only time in SW we see any 'military' is:
In the prequels: Separatists (droids) vs the Republic (clones) - and technically, one guy controlled them both. The clones were OK'd by the senate because there wasn't any other standing army to help

We actually get one glorious look at some imperial military in a movie. "Solo" has the imperial military on Mimban. The mud troopers are labeled as some of the last units in the imperial military, before they get replaced.

Death troopers?

I think it’s just the “masked people doing karate” thing that reminded me and kicked up nostalgia because I was all about MMPR and Star Wars when I was a kid.
Sounds like my son.

He's 26 & a former Marine. I was in Walmart looking at Black Series figures & I hear him GASP. I'm thinking he saw a new SW figure, but nope... He had seen a Red MMPR in the new Hasbro line, & I thought he was gonna cry. He's asking why they couldn't make stuff like that when he was little.

It was an awesome moment to be 'DAD' again. I rolled my eyes & asked how much it was, although I knew, then reluctantly said, "Go ahead & I'll get it, but remember, that's part of your Christmas.".

I've said it elsewhere, but I really appreciate how much this show loves the source material and how much is in there for the long-time mega fans. I still remember reading the old EU novels as a teenager and never in a million years expected to hear an actor ever mention beskar. This show nails it for me.

I thought that they did pretty well in this episode. They did manage to keep Team Katan pinned down pretty effectively by the end and when Mando did his kamikaze run, he did seem to take more than a few hits.

On the topic of taking hits, that was a prime opportunity to give him some dents and wear on the armor, but he comes out totally clean. I feel like he needs some weathering and character for the full Beskar set

It's becoming more and more apparent just how thin the story here is. That said, it's still enjoyable. I don't think I've ever cared so much about a show that didn't seem to care about getting anywhere.

Man, that was a fun episode! I loved Bo Katan's music! Seeing Titus, I definitely thought he would be second in charge behind Gideon, and become a big baddie to watch out for in future episodes. I kinda like the mystery of how the saber ended up in Gideon's hands, and nothing is spoonfed to us, it gives us more time over the span of multiple episodes for exposition and backstory.

Seeing Din find out there's different groups of Mandalorians was very good, as soon as the others realized he was from The Watch, I thought "omg he doesnt know he's been raised in a cult!" He's been following one way, but now he's opening up to other points of view and not just a single narrow sight. I hope he learns new info about all Mandalorians and not just one secluded faction/tribe, and holy crap he better get one of those new weapons!

Finding out where The Child is going and who he is going to meet will be interesting, knowing he is only 50 out of 900 gives me hope that he will be trained and later makes a new order for the next few generations, please give us a new Star Wars saga separate from the Skywalkers! Luke failed and everything jedi related supposedly ends, but there may be other jedi groups out there who can restart an order!

The runtime was just fine for me, its a tv show, not a series of short movies. This episode had new characters, new plotpoints, great action, and moved the story forward, all within 30mins! I patiently wait for each new episode, I watch nearly all youtube reviews to keep me busy every week, I realllly hope this series lasts at least 6 seasons and has multiple spinoffs and movies to follow.

This is the way

I have to admit this was the best episode I've seen in the series. New characters (to me anyway I don't know or care to know the cartoons and expanded stuff), good old Stormtroopers the Imperial commander was as you would want them to be (not a jabbering clown as in the new movies) and very little of the child much better.
