The Mandalorian (TV series)

So within the span of probably several weeks, Mando was riding next to Anakin's pod racer on Tatooine, and will now meet Anakin's old apprentice. Small galaxy.
Yup... Anakin is a plot magnet in this show.

I mean, it's not like In the very first film, he kidnapped one of the 2 women in the film, who just happened to be the daughter he didn't know he had, that he did it right over his old home planet, where his old master was in hiding, who a few hours later was revealed to the son Anakin didn't know he had, who was led there to said master by the astromech droid that he used to own, that he got from his dead wife, that was accompanied by the protocol droid that Anakin had built, that had just been purchased by his stepbrother, who then all ended up by total accident on the space station Anakin had gone to after kidnapping his daughter, & interrogating her, & torturing her, & blowing up her home planet, then killing his old master as he watches his daughter & son escape on his future son-in-law's ship, which also happens to be the ship that causes Anakin to lose control during the battle at the end where, out of all the ships making an attack, his son is the one he's about to blow out of existence.

You're right... EXTREMELY small galaxy, & has been since the beginning.

It’s almost as if execution of a concept has to do with how we’ll receive it and how much we’re willing to forgive, and when it’s poorly executed we’ll have more to complain about…

I thought the problem was the convenience. I didn't realize it was poorly executed.

The hamfisted inclusion of recognizable elements and characters is very different from three highly entertaining films that audiences can enjoy despite more than a few plot contrivances and conveniences.

Ok, I don't want to argue, but I & possibly some others don't really consider this particular show hamfisted. That I guess would be subjective, so there's no right or wrong to it. Didn't mean to come across as negative, cause I enjoy all those elements that I was making fun of.

I don't see how this is hamfisted when it takes place in the same universe, in one galaxy that everyone seems fairly well travelled in. Also I'm guessing you're speaking of the og trilogy and well...THEY WERE THE FIRST. They had to build the lore you think is hamfisted  .

Anakin was the big, prophesized "chosen one", so I'm not shocked his fate doesn't weave in and out of the entire story. Tatooine isn't that big and it's a blue collar trader planet...stuff will get passed around...etc.

This is Dave Filoni's show with Favreau who was also in Clone Wars; the lore he wrote will of course make an appearance. I don't think it's being executed poorly, I think he's trying to maintain a balance of being palatable to both adults and kids. And kids were brought in heavily by the cartoons.

This just sounds like: "I DON'T LIKE STAR WARS IN MY STAR WARS!"

But in all honesty, Palpatine returning was dumb. I'll give you that.

I think it's more addressing the possibility that if done too often it will detract from a story that doesn't need constant reference to the saga films, which is The Mandalorian's strength as a show because it has worked despite having almost nothing to do with the Skywalker story.

In fact it's the primary reason why I've enjoyed it thus far because they are at least attempting something genuinely new. If it devolves into another version of Clone Wars or Rebels then they may lose me as a viewer because then it will have lost it's focus.

Wow season 2 is one hell of a ride so far. Chapter 11 was insane! So much fun seeing Bo Katan - they did a fantastic job translating her animated look into live action. Ngl, I got a little emotional, but even more so with that name drop at the end  Next week can't come soon enough...

From a story/character dev perspective, I'm loving that they're starting to challenge Mando's core beliefs this season by confronting him with other Mandalorians that don't share his strict 'extremist' values. I also appreciate that they've made his beskar armor as much of a weakness as it is a strength. While it makes him practically invincible, it's value in the universe also puts him in danger. People want to kill him just to peel the armor off to strike it rich and that's such a great element that keeps Mando from being too OP.

I don't know if I've said it on here before, but Mandalorians are the coolest things in Star Wars. Cooler than the Jedi. Change my mind (jk not trying to start a fight here)

The credits are rolling as I type this. Can I say how much I find the Lucasfilm opening credits to be too much of a copy of Marvel's opening credits. It's distracting and though short, they feel too similar for me to not always make the comparison every time I see them. It's kind of annoying. Even the music has a similar feel.

Overall a fun episode. There was one instance where the score felt like it was gearing up to kick into some industrial music which I thought was an odd creative choice. Having not seen Clone Wars or Rebels the references and character appearances went right over my head and meant nothing to me. There have been references in the past episodes that also eluded me, but this felt like I'd missed class for a week and I didn't know what chapter we left off on. As I said before, I just hope they don't turn this into the live action version of Rebels when Ashoka shows up. I'm not all that interested in having to watch two entire television series to get up to speed with what's happening in this show, which is a real possibility now.

Jedi are cooler in my book. Though I have no interest in changing anyone's mind on the subject. ;)

They should have a Star Wars show that’s completely unrelated to the Skywalker saga in anyway whatsoever you know like the movie Rogue One That had nothing to do with anything related to the original trilogy. Just a group of ragtag people trying to get plans for the death star before Darth Vader could use it to blow up princess Leia‘s home planet and kill Luke Skywalker. Yes an unrelated movie like that one.

let’s face it, there have only been two Star Wars movies that have not had a tie in to the Skywalker saga. An Ewok adventure. And an Ewok adventure of the battle for Endor.

those were great!

And here is the chance to do just that with this show. Let's see if they are smart enough to see it through.

They won’t, they already aren’t and haven’t been since the first episode. As soon as the Force gets involved you know normal Star Wars stuff is coming. This is not a rebuke of the series, but it’s dishonest to say this show isn’t cut from the same cloth we’re used to.

It's certainly the closest they've gotten to doing something mostly disconnected from the main story. Rogue One and Solo are still so closely tied with the saga that while they are technically stand alone films, they are still tied in many ways to the main saga. Mandalorian at the least has the potential to actually go elsewhere and show us something different. I've enjoyed it thus far but I have yet to be deeply invested in it and my interest has been very casual.

30 minute episode.... Feels too rushed... One hour episodes should be the standard.

Starbuck as a Mando was cool, she looked great!

Lol just saw an article that there are idiots who are upset over yoddle eating the eggs from episode 2....
