The Mandalorian (TV series)

my biggest question is, it looks like a different leg piece... so is it suppose to be the same piece? or did he run out of Beskar and she only coated it?

id love to know more about the leg piece

i know the whole "used future" silver leg with 3po. but i was curious if there was a reasoning other then that behind it

After the mud horn attack he has the dark grey visible on multiple spots of damage, looks to be the primer under the red, and the raw Beskar under that. It’s apparent on his right thigh as he goes to leave Kuill at the end of the episode. I didn’t see an explicit crack to be welded, but the plate is definitely bent and dented, so I’m going to guess the armorer repaired it when she made his cuirass. I do wonder if his left leg is ALSO the same plate he had the whole time and just stripped the paint there too. The shape looks the same as the tan piece he starts with.

thanks to starwarsscreencaps.com
right before the mud horn

think i can safety tell myself its just mud horn damage... and he didn't have enough Beskar for a whole suit

Yea, I think his original suit is supposed to be at least partially beskar, but is just painted. I took the "full curias" comment to mean "I can round out your set, and get you better mid-body armor to boot".

His original cuirass might have been Beskar too, but being a foundling it isn’t a stretch to think it was a hand me down or something to that effect. IIRC it shares the same design as the Deathwatch Mandos, which could make it outdated if still serviceable by the time of the show.

That's kind of how I figure it went. all/most of his stuff was beskar, but they were pieces he was able to get/be given over time.

We know for sure that at least some of the painted gear the other mandos were wearing was beskar, because the armorer collected it up, and was melting it back down to ingots. if it had simply been a matter of honor to not leave any Mandalorian pattern durrasteel pieces behind, she would have thrown a big as charge on the pile and hauled ass before the tunnel was atomized.

I really need more lore from this group of Mandos, they’re so similar but different to what we’ve seen before even with the deeper dives TCW did.

thats why in the first episode the bad guy asked and scratched it with his knife, i thought beskar was so hard it didn't scratch or dent... thought i recently read that, thats what beskar has over durasteel

i thought his original armor was durasteel minus his helmet
That was my understanding as well, especially since his right shoulder is basically just Shoretrooper/Stormtroper shoulder bell. When IG-11 shots hm towards the end of the first episode, the blast leaves a massive dent on the upper right side of his chest plate, that wasn't there before. Once he gets his Besakr armor from the Armorer, we see him constantly taking blasts, including from Fennic's sniper rifle, that leave no visible marks, let alone a dent.

could go either way at this point. I know beskar is supposed to be crazy strong, and one of it's benefits is that it really is damn near impossible to hurt with a blaster/lightsaber.

But can it be dented? Damaged? Bent? Yes. It can be mined and shaped, that means it can be destroyed or damaged.

Is the show depicting the beskar getting bent and damaged? We don't know. nothing official have come out and said how it will work on screen, and Disney isn't holding itself beholden to fluff and such that was put out in a novel from the late 90's where this would have been covered. Some of the fun is that we don't know what part of his suits were what at this point, and may not find out for a long while.

The guy at the start of the first episode was definitely implying that he could tell if the chest plate was beskar by scraping it. Do we see the chest plate get scraped? Yes-ish? the blade damages the paint for sure, but paint is paint. I don't remember anything that makes the metal underneath look damaged or not damaged.

Even if we knew for sure that the plate wasn't damaged at all by the knife, and was thus beskar, we wouldn't know what the new cinematic "breaking point" of the McGuffin metal is going to be. The idea of a metal being "boot knife proof", but also being capable of being dented by blasters and cracked in half by giant hairy rhino critters is perfectly fine to me.

I had assumed, originally, that a lot of his gear is not beskar. But I can't tell any more/suspect we're meant to assume it is all/mostly beskar.

Hell, maybe they even make alloys. cutting beskar with durasteel to make better armor than straight durasteel, but nothing compared to the full on mythosaur riders of old. we shall see.

side thought: the pile of beskar gear the armorer has made and is melting down: does any of it look dented/damaged? If it does, we can assume that beskar shows it's damage until its repaired/refinished (or maybe it's all made of the "alloys" I conjecture, and she's just separating the beskar out).

Alloys definitely make sense when the material is so scarce but also so religiously revered. If we’re putting our technobabble hats on I’m also curious about the flak jacket and the circuitry that seems to be running through it. I wonder if the armor plates are held on through electromagnetism.

I always thought it was a beskar 'patch job" on the original right leg armor.
I think the black on the leg armor is from after the mud horn. The chestplate has black like that in the picture of him walking down the ramp too.
I think after the armorer "patch job" its brown/black/ silver , the silver blotches being the beskar fix?
