The Mandalorian (TV series)

i see the 3 tone color here (on the right), red, dark grey, and then the raw finish

The large leg piece is meant to represent the same piece. (They may be different props in real life) But it's got three pock marks going down in like an Orion's Belt manner going down it. The middle one (right on the bar) having another scratch off to the side that points down. The picture on the right has this extra mis-shapen blob which is just temporary repairs from the beating he took during the series.

Alloys definitely make sense when the material is so scarce but also so religiously revered. If we’re putting our technobabble hats on I’m also curious about the flak jacket and the circuitry that seems to be running through it. I wonder if the armor plates are held on through electromagnetism.

Yea, that was an addition I liked. I've got no horse in the race as to what the stuff on the backside of the chest plate is, but it's neat to see. it could even be a system to help shunt off energy from blasts/hits. almost like modern body armor working well because it's combined materials and purpose. the beskar is strong enough to keep you from being outright killed by something, and disperse it well enough, that the network on the backside can collect and shunt off the disbursed kinetic and heat energy. That being "proposed", I don't need or expect an answer. I enjoythe fact that star wars is science-fantasy, and the tech only needs surface level explanation, because it's really just a placeholder for magic/a mechanism for moving the story forward. "why does his armor work better?" "it's made of a special metal" "how does that special metal work?" "it works by being better..."

I always thought it was a beskar 'patch job" on the original right leg armor.
I think the black on the leg armor is from after the mud horn. The chestplate has black like that in the picture of him walking down the ramp too.
I think after the armorer "patch job" its brown/black/ silver , the silver blotches being the beskar fix?

probably just a material to hold everything in place until an actual armorer could mess with it.
-odds of them issuing out "beskar infused JB weld" to fix damage with?
Low - they'd rather make better gear from it.

-odds of them issuing out actual JB weld?
pretty good :p

Though I suspect, in the grand scheme of things, we've gotten into the realm of "they showed it a certain way for story telling purposes" rather than any deep intended canonical purpose. Keep in mind, so MUCH of the cannon we subscribe to is just someone else coming up with a way to explain things that were done for story telling purposes in the original films.

Yeah I agree, I only need just enough justification to suspend my disbelief on most Star Wars tech, as it really should mostly just be there to serve the story.

Unless the definition of cuirass is different in SW (which I don't believe it is...)

HISTORICAL
a piece of armor consisting of breastplate and backplate fastened together.

So, she fashioned him a new chest and back plate. The pauldron was done with the down-payment ingots. He hasn't upgraded his thigh plates or greaves as yet, so it makes sense they'd still be kind of janky.

He got his second shoulder pad done at the same time too :p

So have they said how the release time works tomorrow? The season 1 episodes dropped at something like 4am eastern for US viewers, right?

Same crud this go around?

So, bringing it up because I had not seen it anywhere else before: on Disney+ there's an "extra's" section under Mandalorian that has trailers for season 1 & 2, but also has something called the "Season 2 Special Look".

The special look has some additional little bits from some of the same scenes in the season 2 trailer.

Ah, looks like it's made it to youtube also:

if ya'll haven't seen it, and aren't trying to avoid ALL info about the contents of season 2, I'd check it out.

Yeah, I just saw that too. Looked neat.

I love Adams reaction to the belly
I don’t know wether they sent him a complimentary unit or he paid for it but you can’t really beat the wide audience that will be seeing this figure through his channel.

Spoilers ahead for the first episode of season two…

Oof. And I was worried about cartoon characters being distracting. REMEMBER R4? REMEMBER ANAKIN’S PODRACER? REMEMBER WEEQUAY? REMEMBER THE EXPANDED UNIVERSE AND THE GUY WHO WORE FETT’S ARMOR?? Good grief, the first half of this episode was mega ass. Didn’t help that Pedro Pascal delivered half his lines with all the charm of Harrison Ford’s Blade Runner narration. Not to mention a lot of the visual effects fell a little flat for me in the first half. That being said, the second half at least was entertaining enough, and a better “village/village banding together” scene than the Bryce Dallas Howard “Seven Samurai” episode from last season. I knew there’d be a final stinger right at the end, the same way they revealed Baby Yoda in the first season: I was sure it would be one of the cartoon characters, but it’s more than likely the real Boba Fett, looking pretty much just as crappy as his armor. Which, by the way, why did Fett’s armor look so…bad? Not like, extra weathered from years in the sand, but like, not right? Maybe part of it was the armor just not sitting right on the marshall character, but still. Something was just off. Like, it just didn’t look like Fett’s armor. Anyway, if this episode was an indication of the season I’d say my fears were definitely founded. We’ll get probably a few pockets of decent scenes surrounded by call-outs, both visual and narrative, as they bury the potential this show had further and further under the allure of “I saw something I recognized and I CLAPPED!”

Agreed that it was hardly groundbreaking stuff in terms of plot, but overall found it an enjoyable watch, and I'll probably watch it again over the weekend. I guess that when it becomes clear what the main episode location is you can expect there to be call backs so you can mentally prepare. Perhaps there will be a little more originality in subsequent episodes, but at the same time they know what lots of people like to see.

I do wonder how Boba Fett will fit in after the reveal at the end. As in, if he survived the sarlacc and has been living on Tatooine for a few years in the wasteland why didn't he either try to recover his armour or get offworld before now? My assumption would be that it's because he saw the Mandalorian and wants to join up with him (rather than being an antagonist?).

The Fett armour and helmet did look kind of off compared to what I'm used to seeing, but I'd be surprised if they didn't go to great lengths to match the RotJ originals. Or maybe they used one of the different ESB or pre-pro helmets as a source which looked odd in RotJ paint-up? Or maybe it was just a case of how it fit the actor.

What did people think of the Krayt dragon design? A bit too much of a Dune-vibe to it?

Anyway, at the end of the day I mostly feel sorry for all those poor banthas!

I guess I just have to say, if you don't like the callbacks, the small universe feel, or the 'cartoon' characters, then I perfectly can see why this episode didn't really float your boat.

I did like it though. I'm guilty of liking REBELS, TCW, & some of the novels, so I'm good with it. At the end of the day, this is a show that all ages should be able to enjoy, & if they put some of the cookies on the bottom shelf so the younger audience can catch the Easter eggs themselves, then I'm not going to let that bother my enjoyment.

I do have ONE MAJOR GRIPE! This episode did something that I can NEVER forgive...

I will never, NEVER be able to watch THE OFFICE again & see an episode with Phyllis's husband without hearing, " I'm Cobb Vanth. Vanth Refrigeration.".

STAR WARS HAS RUINED MY 30'S!!!

;)

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

I think they used a Jango Fett sized armor for the Boba Fett costume.Because Temuera Morrison is too small for a screenaccurate Bobasuit.
And thats why it looked so wrong.Ok the helmet was also not really good in shape and details. For me the armor was a disappointment.
But we must see how good Temuera looks in that suit.

I´m also not a big fan of Mandos clean Beskararmor. It looks like Robocop would play in Starwars.
The first "gunslinger armor" was so much cooler and more realistic with all the weathering.

What I also hate is how mando speaks with the Tusken Raiders. That was not funny...that was a shame.(n)

But overall the first Episode of season 2 was ok....great monsters,a good start and a good end of the episode.

I think the armor looked off for 2 reasons.

Timothy Olyphant is pretty tall for one, & he was also wearing a basic, thin shirt underneath. Without the bulk of a flight suit, it looked weird. The one shot showing him from behind, where you could see his hair underneath the helmet made me chuckle at how important the neck seal is to the 'real' Boba look.

I also believe it fit him so poorly to emphasize the fact that it wasn't his. It was meant for someone else & he just found it. They made it look almost uncomfortable.

May I ask what you didn't like about the Tuscan conversations? I didn't take them as trying to be funny, just that as a bounty hunter, he's probably spent a fair amount of time in the Outer Rim, with that being a popular place for fugitives to try & hide. I think he probably learned the language to broker deals just like this one. I was just curious as to your take on it.

I have no problem that he can speak with the Tusken Raiders with his hands like in season one.But this here sounds like he wants to copy a wookie or something.I think he should not talk so much. That was better in season one.

And about the Boba suit...yes your right about the size and the missing parts of the suit...BUT...no red LEDs in the rangefinder???That was really poorly researched. (n)

I didn't catch the range finder. There were a couple of scenes that it didn't look like the LEDs in the chest were on, but I just chalked that up to the lighting in the scene.

I appreciate the response
