I reject that idea. But I like the Cad Bane theory.

Only thing with it being Cad Bane, before TCW got cancelled, Filoni was doing a story where there was a duel between Boba & Bane. It explained why Boba had the dent in his helmet, & Cad didn't survive. The episode made it all the way to anamatic stage & was shown by the Clone Wars panel at some con.
I'm thinking that the story will be revisited during the new season of TCW on Disney+, & if it's not changed, Bane wouldn't be alive at the time of The Mandalorian.

I read that as well, but it (what I read, anyway) was only speculation based on knowledge that the character and actor was going to show up in the series.

Agreed, but I'm still thinking it was originally meant to be a red herring.
That said, rumors can spark a life of their own and influence the show writers to surprise us in the future.

Speculation: Gideon got the darksaber from Fennec Shand.

Bo Katan was the last to wield the dark saber though?
I think he's speculating that Shand procured it from Bo somewhere in the last few years. This dovetails with the conjecture that was Gideon standing over her at the end of that ep.

Happened to be browsing Amazon & they have the Funco POP figure I was referring to, up for preorder. It's scheduled to be released in February, & ALL the current & announced figures, including the ones from this wave were ALL in season one.
I really don't remember seeing this particular Mandalorian in any background scenes, & considering that the figures name is 'Covert Mandalorian', I'm sticking with my theory that she was the one that approached Fennic Shan.
Now whether she's Boba's daughter or not, I'll wait & see.
EDIT: As I was hitting the button to post this, I realized that the Mandalorian's hideout was called a 'Covert', so this COULD just be a random background character from the shadows, but I'll leave my original theory in case I'm not completely off base.

Rebels is EU. Star Wars is a film franchise, and anything outside of the films is extra. Including the Mandalorian.Rebels isn't EU.

There is no EU. There is canon and there is Legends. EU refers to the shows, books and comics produced and published prior to the Disney buy out, that were rejected lore by Disney/ LFL. Certain things, were kept as canon, though not much.
Rebels is canon.
Fact: Bo-Katan was the last we know held the Dark Saber.
Fact: Moff Gideon was the ISB OIC on Mandalore
Speculation: and likely head of the Purge. He was in the position to take the Dark Saber from Bo Katan.
Fact: we dont know anything more that what I stated as fact above until Season 2, which may or may not reveal the truth.
