The Mandalorian (TV series)

Well, I totally stand corrected. I thought they were really going to make the focus of this show Din/Grogu. I thought this was going to be "Lone Wolf and Cub" in Space. But once they went to Tython and Grogu reached out, there really was only one possible outcome for who would show up (that makes sense). I still held out hope they wouldn't do it, or that Grogu would refuse the call to the Jedi life.

Once it became clear where they were going and that X-Wing showed up, I'll admit I was excited like I was 9 and in the theater for ROTJ again. It was a thrill to watch, but still bittersweet. Now I have no idea what this show will be. It could be awesome in new and different ways I can't anticipate. That's ok, but there is a tinge of disappointment that this is where it went.

I guess there was only so long they could keep up the "protect Grogu from the universe and still do other cool stuff" conceit before it got repetitive or stale. But I thought they might be able to manage it with some cleverness.

So I'm now confused about Mando season 3. Is it now "The Book of Boba Fett" or is that a separate series that happens to air at the exact same time S3 was slated to drop? Is "The Mandalorian" now an anthology series about whatever mandalorians they feel like following for a bit? Again, I'm still going to watch but I'm not sure how to feel about it.

Looks like Bib's been eating everything in the fridge. It was a nice bit of continuity to see the male Twi'lek getting fat like Orn Free Ta.

I wish they had taken the fanservice even one step further toward the end. Imagine if instead of just 1 X-Wing, it was a few X-Wings (Rogue Squadron) and a bigger ship like the Ghost doing the flyby. Then, one of the X-Wings breaks formation and lands. And the pilot's costume was wierd. It's the same exact clothes he wore 5 years ago. And he's wearing it instead of an X-Wing flight suit? Can you do that with all the life support equipment in the suit? If they had to keep Jedi clothes, I was dreaming of seeing him in Jedi Armor like they wore in the Clone Wars. (Namely, VADER-STYLE armor like Anakin wore.) Finally, I could be wrong, but the markings on that X-Wing looked like Luke got promoted to Red (or Rogue) Leader.
I also think I would have preferred that Stinky the Hutt (Jabba's son from the godawful Clone Wars movie) had taken over the Family Business. But it could have been confusing to see another Hutt up there. Maybe I just want to see Stinky get shot.
Finally, did anyone else feel like that last shot of Boba came straight from the 1990s trading cards? Something about the painterly look to the shot made me wish for that as a poster.
 
I loved it. Those Troopers reminded me of the Dark Forces PC game back in the day. The Book of Boba Fett will be interesting. Also God Bless and RIP Jeremy the “OG” Boba! Gone way too soon weeks from David Prowse!!!!! 2020 sucks!!!
 
I enjoyed it a lot. Only that that sticks with me is that every x-wing we have seen this season are all RED 2. even the episode with the two hunting Mando is the ice cave. Both RED 2, even Lukes looked like it had the RED 2 markings. I'll have to watch again to verify.
 
The sequel trilogy is incredibly flawed, and often times frustrating but it lacks objectivity to completely ignore any value that it brings to the story. Luke’s failure and subsequent exile doesn’t undermine his arc from the OT and this appearance doesn’t need to be “fixing the Disney trilogy”. It’s really frustrating to me seeing his second arc being constantly berated because the sequels were disjointed and Luke wasn’t the guy everyone expected along the way.

I’ve said it before that the best way to make the ST fit into the world is to write strong material surrounding it, which this inclusion feels like the beginning of. More information in the margins will eventually smooth the larger status quo issues that the ST presents, and I’m willing to let those stories be told.

Luke has failed by the time of TLJ, but he’s not a failure, he’s just experiencing the pressures of being a lone Jedi master in a totally new world. His teachers failed too. Failed to stop the sith, failed to prevent Anakin’s fall, but Luke grows past his failure and has one of the most incredible swan songs of the whole series for me.

I understand the frustration with the OT players coming back to be killed off one by one, I have a load of ST based gripes, but constantly dredging them up as if they’re the rock bottom of quality when any new Star Wars is brought up gets old. The cynicism about Rebels and TCW, and characters that people have just decided they don’t like us getting old.

this show isn’t the one I expected or maybe even wanted, but I’m willing to give them chances to elevate the material and ALL of the Star Wars content that exists in this new canon.

As far as Grogu is concerned, I don’t believe for a minute that this is the last we’ve seen of him or that he died in the academy massacre. He and Din and all the rest of them have more story ahead. Moff Gideon is in New Republic custody, Thrawn is still unaccounted for, the remnant is growing and shifting into the First Order, there’s plenty of room for them to move into.

I want to add that in my defense of Luke and his arc I’m not trying to say that the ST is unworthy of criticism, or that it’s a masterpiece beyond reproach. I’m not calling into question who is a “rEAl FaN”, just trying to offer an opinion somewhere in the middle of all of this.

But, weren't those the same guy? Of course they're both Red 2. I thought Luke's wing markings looked like Red Leader (no stripes to the trailing edge of the wings.)

I re-watched it too to see if Boba was on board the ship when Luke showed up. That would have been a MAJOR problem. lol

I know this is not directed at me, but the more I think about it maybe I've just overstayed my welcome in the Star Wars world. Maybe it's time for me to stop loving and hoping for something that will never love me back. lol

I think this is where I have to let it go. Finish my stuff and move on.

Nah there’s room for everyone with love for the series, and I know a lot of the dissent here is in good faith from people who genuinely DO love Star Wars (even if it’s their own little corner). Ive just been trying to be objective in how I look at the series now and which peers to compare it to.

For better or worse it is now more akin to Marvel than the vision of a once scrappy filmmaker and the people who enabled him along the way, and for me that’s okay because things are always bound to change with as much time and adoration the franchise has.

I honestly prefer these at times middling/divisive movies that Disney has made over full on recast remakes of the Original trilogy. Now if questioned on if I would prefer that none of this new stuff exist at all my answer is, maybe.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. I wanted it to be basically anybody BUT Luke. We've had 9 movies of the Skywalker saga and after what happened to him in the sequels, I don't really want to see any more of him. Considering what made this series great was staying away from the movies it bums me out that now I'm worried it's going to become the, "retcon/save the sequels," series. Watching Luke be so awesome felt so hollow to me knowing what becomes of him in Last Jedi. Also, I absolutely cannot stand the CG de-aging. It's awful. Especially when they talk.

I was expecting, if anybody, Ezra to set up Thrawn for the Ahsoka series.

So hopefully that was just a cameo to try to salvage Luke a bit so now Grogu's story is over (which kind of sucks because I enjoyed the Lone Wolf and Baby Yodaness), Mando completed his quest to return him to his people, now Din has to struggle with the fact that he's spent 2 seasons trying to not be the guy and now he's THE Mand'alor and he needs to unite the Mandalorians.

Also, I too now have a greater appreciation of Boba Fett. At least he's not the buffoon who had somebody else do all of his work for him and then got knocked into the giant pit monster anymore. I'll watch his show.

And Fat Bib was A+.
 
Yes the CGI was.. 1990's level but Luke got his hallway fight scene!! And damn if it wasn't amazing.. [emoji3][emoji3] This is the Luke that I've envisioned post ROTJ era. I'm on the side of I pray they use the world between worlds and rid us of the horror that are the ST..
