The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

Been enjoying all of the video's and updates, just a suggestion though as i noticed you are doing a ton of sanding. You may want to get one of these http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-D26451K-Corded-5-Inch-Random/dp/B0007XXHGO/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339048366&sr=1-1 a random orbital sander, works a lot better than a regular vibrating one.

See here.

I have an orbital sander, and it's been getting a good workout. Good stuff.
.

Man I could listen to BO talk all day. Between his knowledge of automobiles and that awesome accent; The man needs a show of his own. :)-:thumbsup

great to see you powering along.... I think if it was me, I'd find my self giggling with glee every time a walked into the garage... Keep up the good work...

Matt, although you've heard it many times up to this point, I also have to throw my kudos out there as I have found this to be a truly phenomenal build and have throughly enjoyed watching the videos and other updates on the project! So yeah, my hat is definitely off to you!

On a side note, even though it's a long ways down the road (pun intended), I was curious if you possibly have any plans to show the finished Mattmobile at shows in other parts of the country outside of your local area? I know transporting the car would be a headache (and pricey) but shows such as the various Concours D'Elegance events (two of which are here in the Houston area) would probably love to have your car on display, especially given the incredible stories and experiences you've had building it from scratch. Those shows always seem to love having unique vehicles on display.

Again, amazing work and I enjoy checking here and your blog daily for updates!

Starfighter, I suspect I will play it by ear. Though I don't really see myself spending the kind of money it would take to transport the car to another state to show it off. There are plenty of local events to keep me busy, and even more when I throw in the star car central events. But who knows. We shall see :)

Right now I need to focus on getting the darn thing finished :D

I absolutely understand, Matt. I imagine the light still seems pretty far away at the end of the tunnel. But man, you're making awesome progress and the satisfaction of the end result will absolutely outweigh any challenges you face!

Congrats again!

Sad to say, but Bo's work on the car is jsut about done. Today he finished the transmission cross member, which means the engine is now in its resting place. I built a hoist frame today, so we can lift the shell on and off the chassis with ease. Lots of work accomplished today. Pics soon.

Engine mounts are done, and I have a blog post to prove it.

TONS more photos and stuff on the blog.

This is the most I've learnt about cars since I learned to change a spark plug in scouts.
I wish more of my interests were subliminally educational.
Great work btw.

(that was meant to read by the way, but also great work Bo the welder)

I really like where this is going. You have a lot of dedication to this project. Much respect. I hope all your hard work pays off.

Barring financial catastrophe OR the neighbors calling in the HOA, I suspect this project will be seen through to the end.

Still, that's a lot of "ifs". lol
