Anyone have an idea what this part is that is circled in red???

Uh.. what was it connected to? Looks like a canister of some kind, my initial thought was washer fluid, given the position (but I think it's too low). Can you figure out where the tubes ran? I can't tell if they're still attached or not from the pic.

There's not one on the other side, is there?

Some sort of overflow container or charcoal canister for the Smog system?

Does it have fluid in it? It looks like the Power Steering.

^ Or a pump of some kind? I was thinking for the washer fluid, but from older pics, the reservoir is on the other side of the engine.

it's not wiper fluid. That was on the drivers side. I'ts not power steering fluid. I already removed that. It was round-about connected to the freon reservoir, but I have no idea what it does. Maybe kind of scrubbing/capture mechanism?

I suppose I could pull the part number off it. I have better pictures of it when it was still connected too, if necessary.

It could be the a/c condenser

actually no I think that has a belt attached to it...no clue

Not sure the correct term but some sort of dryer for the AC, helps take water out of the system. could be that ?

If it has high pressure hoses in and out of it, suspect its AC. If the hoses going to and from are held with spring type clamps im still going with smog canister. It might have 4-6 vacuum lines and a sensor wire that plugs into it.

No vacuum lines, though it did have high pressure hoses. one thick, one thin. I'll see if I can find a good engine schematic online somewhere. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. This is fun!

A pal on CLTC has identified it as a vapor canister, by AC Delco. Which explains the "AC" stamped into the top of it. I'll have to recheck my photos, but at least now I know what it is. It's an emissions control device.

Hey Gang! I need some help please. Can you tell me what the parts are that I've got circled here?

I spent a couple of hours today removing pieces from the block. I also took out the windshield wiper motor, some tubing, stuff like that. Just trying to clear a path down so that I can pull the engine and transmission out.

I believe the black circle should be your alternator, and the white circle is your water pump if I am not mistaken.

The white one is the a/c compressor, I think. I'm stuck on the black one.

Edit: duh, Black thing circled in yellow is the smog pump....also called an air pump. Sorry, I started calling them by their own color, not the circles. Long day, time to turn brain off.

The water pump is the shiny metal thing in the middle. That much I'm certain of. I'll do some research on alternator and compressor. I had a suspicion that the black circled one was the alternator, but wasn't sure.

By the way, the hose marked "IN" on the thing circled in yellow came from the air filter housing.
