The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

Might be a moot point at this stage of the game, but cool pictures like that can be had in a "Haynes" manual as well. Maybe pick one up at you local parts store for about $20 or so. Just in case. :)

I have one, and it does not include illustrations like that.

Lots of good progress today to show off. The interior is TOTALLY stripped bare now.

Anyone know where I could look if I wanted to get the PRINT manuals that these came from? Are they Service Manuals? The repair guides that you find at the auto parts store, like the Hayne's Manual, does not include this level of granularity.

Wow Matt!! Hadn't checked the progress in a few days, and to see this much is amazing!

Looks like the saw has earned it's place in the garage!!

Indeed it has. I think now that I've gotten the hang of that thing, I'm squarely on target for finishing the tear down by the end of the month, as scheduled.

I think the next thing I'll do is buy and install the airbag kit. Oh wait, I'll do the stretch first. Then airbag kit and tires. By then, the shell should be VERY close to delivery.

I've been reading this thread from the beginning - thank you so much! for documenting this project. Not only is it one I hope to do at some point in the near future (must get basement remodel done) but this is exactly why I LOVE this forum!!
I know it would be easier to not bother with the photos and the write up.
Thanks again Matt!

I can't speak for your particular car, but I've seen these type of detailed schematics in mechanics manuals. These are not the ones you find at your local auto parts stores. Instead, these are the 500+ page manuals kept at dealerships and auto repair shops that the mechanics will reference for repairs.

I picked one up for my car on eBay for about $50. It's already paid for itself in maintenance and repairs I've been able to do myself.

The fact that you can't tell the water pump from the alternator just makes this build even more fun!!! This was a ballsy project to take on! By the end you will have all your friends trying to get you to fix their cars!

MM: "Man I am not a mechanic, I can't work on your car!"

Neighbor: "I saw you pull a POS in that garage and pull out a Batmobile. If you don't want to fix my car just say so... jerk!"

:lol
