I would say that a piano wire to go through the seal would take out the window, but if you aren't going to sell the window for scrap, who cares: Smash it.
 
The tip of that tool snapped off after about 20 seconds of use. Perhaps the sealant has fossilized over the past 20 years or something. I think I'm just going to call an auto glass service and have them remove it. While smashing it would no doubt be loads of fun, it also sounds dangerous and messy. I will skip that. ;)
 
I just wanted to say thanks and keep up the good work. It is threads like this one that were the reason that I joined the rpf - an iconic prop, detailed progress reports with pictures and the work being done with a limited amount of space and without a specialized workshop. You make it seem like everyone can give it a shot.
 
hey, thanks adorman1! That is very kind of you to say, and I really appreciate it! I'm glad you guys are enjoying the progress updates and all the other stuff that goes along with the build up. I assure you, I'm having just as much fun :)
 
Thanks Tim! I'm trying to stick with the plan of "a little bit every day", which seems to be going well so far. I just want to keep momentum going, and I personally find that it helps to not be over ambitious. Earmarking an entire weekend for the car (or any project) just isn't possible, and I know if I did that, I would just get dissuaded.

So I try to put in an hour here, and hour there, just to keep things moving. So far so good!

It was actually pretty terrifying!! lol.

And guys, on a serious note, THANK CRIKEY I was wearing my eye protection. When the glass finally gave and broke, I felt a spray of glass dust and chunks hit my face. If I wasn't wearing the glasses, who knows what would have happened!

Safety first!

Speaking of which, I just called an auto glass company. Someone is coming out later today to remove the front and back glass. I'm done dorkin' around with that stuff.
 
Called in a pro. in FIVE minutes, he had both the front and rear glass taken out. I filmed it all, by the way :)

I know that approach well, as I've been applying it to various repairs/upgrades at my condo. Don't do it when you're tired after work, though...I hit my finger with a hammer when mounting some electrical cable (with insulated staples) in the basement...ow!

Even with a bit here and there, your progress is impressive. I look forward to the stripped down frame, which you must drive around the block, wearing a wifebeater with beer in hand. ;)
 
I'm glad you played it safe bud because a batmobile for a blind man really would'nt be that much fun. Keep up with the safety and this is going to be STELLAR!!! Keep up the great work and good luck.
