Superman: Man of Steel Costume *Final Steel Concept Page 7*

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

I am a HUGE Superman fan and love seeing new outfit designs, I only ask for at least a little bit of flavor to the traditional design.

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

I'm liking the new costume. It's a nice departure from the tried, tested and slightly predictable.

That said, i never liked the Returns costume......

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

This costume is going to be a real pain in the neck to replicate!
Paging Matt Munson....

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

I like the new costume design and really love to see a actor with the correct physics to play the man of steel... finally!
Still i understand all your concerns it´s not the Superman we all know and love!
Superman was one of my childhood heroes but we got to let go and face the dawn of a new era... ;)

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

I'll have to pass on this new "un-super" costume and stick to the Christopher Reeve version.

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

I think that would have been a nice looking movie suit...modern/classic..all in one..plus I also like the yellow S on the cape...:thumbsup Also anyway to photoshop some of the actual images from the movie to give it a classi look to see what it would look like..maye a tad lighter blue as well.
It definitely would have been a better choice for the movie costume.

In fact, while searching for those images, I stumbled upon pretty much the best fan manipulated image of Cavill as Superman that I've seen... what the fan decided to illustrate is what I would describe as a hybrid costume, a cross between the Superman Returns costume, and the one from Superman: Earth One, combining the best elements of both, and chucking out what didn't work well. It looks great...

Classic. Powerful. The right look for the character. Too bad Hollywood can't see that. :unsure
Technically, as i wrote before, the suit was not always made by Martha Kent. The first explanation came in the 1940s that he actually made it himself that he created his own indestructible materials. Then in the 1950s Martha made it from the Kryptonian blanket and fabrics that came from the ship he was sent to earth in. Then later on Martha and Clark made it together. And the boots were made from other fabrics found on that ship he was in as a infant. Then in 1978 Donner's myth is that he put it together during the many years being in the Fortress of Solitude and learning the secrets of the Universe and used the fabrics again he had when he was on the ship to earth.

But in every instance the fabrics were always Kryptonian.
Well, in ALMOST every instance. I am a BIG fan of John Byrne's post-Crisis mini-series Man of Steel and its origin for the Big Blue Boy Scout. As has already been mentioned earlier in the thread...
I've always been a huge fan of John Byrne's work and his The Man Of Steel reboot mini-series is the definitive Supes origin in my book. I know it's just one of many origin stories, but I've always been partial to it. In the mini-series, Clark's costume is created and designed by Martha, and Clark and Jonathan Kent designed the S shield themselves (no reference to it being the symbol for the house of El family). The suit was made out of ordinary materials, but Martha explains that, when Clark was a kid, she noticed that clothing right next to his body never seemed to get damaged or dirty. It was explained that Superman's body had an aura around it that protected the skin-tight clothing, rather than the clothing itself being indestructible. I like that explanation better than indestructible baby blankets. This is why you sometimes see Superman's cape being tattered and torn, but his skin-tight costume mostly intact. Of course, this is all the post-Crisis storyline Superman...
When this movie was first announced, some sites even reported that it would be an adaptation of John Byrne's story, but that later changed. Frankly, I'd rather see an adaptation of Man of Steel than what we're actually getting. :unsure

Oh and just as a reminder, that whole thing of the S shield being the symbol of the House of El began with Superman: The Motion Picture starring Christopher Reeve. ;)

KICK ASS!!! THATS EXACTLY LIKE WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT! WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT!!!:thumbsup

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

I think the suit is fine. I'd like to see a batman and flash versions. Whose to say that Bruce wouldn't reverse engineer it and have protection and complete mobility! Shoot I smell tights for all the the future members of the JLA if they ever make that movie and somehow stay in the same continuity

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

Guys, here's another photo of the costume that I found.

Oh... wait...
Oh good lord.... he looks stoned off his ass! :thumbsdown

Guess we know what the S stood for...

"Look... up in the sky! It's a bird....

it's a plane...

IT'S STONERMAN!!!" :rolleyes

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

I like the colour, more earthy. I like the texture, looks better than spandex. I like the lines down the abs and legs and the cuff detail, adds something new... but I really dislike the heavy lines that go into triangles or 'wing' like shapes on the sides of the waist and around to the back ( thank goodness for the cape ).

I think if they had done without that and added a dark red belt where the belt buckle type thing is, it would've been almost perfect for me. A red belt would've kept a bit of the spirit of the original in terms of arrangement of colour, while kicking the tackiness to the curb with the lack of over-briefs. Also would've made sense of that random buckle type thing, and broken up the suit a bit instead of the overflow of art nouveau.

Basically, something like this:
msupes.jpg

What's with taking belts off of all of these reinvented Superheros? o_-

On the actor himself, I really like his look and his hair! Much better than that first 'promo image' that was released a while ago which basically looked nothing like Superman... facial or hair wise anyways. Definitely seeing a resemblance to the character here in how he's been portrayed over time by several actors, though I think Henry definitely has something unique that sets him apart. Not necessarily better or worse than the others, but something that remains true but allows him to be stand out as well.

Re: Superman: Man of Steel Costume

The man needs pants.

And why give him a belt buckle if he's not wearing a belt?

The only thing I really like is the shape of the "S" -- but not the texture(s).

As per the picture above, I believe it is a 2mm neoprene suit with 3D printed micro detail.

I have the the ability to make the suit as they way I have suggested. However for me it just too plain so I'm either going to go and make 1 of the following

Thinking the last one in the list..has a classical look still, but a more modern look too.
