Super 8 Movie Discussion Thread

I thought it was a good film, not great but good. A Dark rendition of ET where ET gets mad and eats the people. :lol

I thought it shined in the plot with the kids making the film and catching the ambiance of the late 70's, extremely Spielbergish.

The plot with the alien was a bit more convoluted, you did not really get to see much until the end and the ending left too many loose ends with the alien. The body count issue and the towns folk for one thing, how the military handles it afterwards, what was the real mentality at the end of the alien, is the world going to get invaded now by hungry aliens, or Earth get the reputation for creating an intergalactic incident or crazy alien, what really was the direction of the mental link at the end?

Being a kid that grew up in the 70's, it was a good film, a super popcorn film but the substance other than the experience of the kids was lacking. Spielberg always tied everything together, Abrahms did not, a lot of assumption and no answers.

I liked it very much, I may get a copy at some point, but its not a film that falls into a all time favorite ranking that I will want to watch over and over again. More on the campy and fun feel with a bit of darkness to it.

It's an adventure film from a kid's perspective... you're not supposed to care about that stuff. In Goonies, you didn't ask a lot of questions about how the pirates set the traps, or if someone gets on a fishing boat and goes after the pirate ship, etc.

I like 'Super 8' and Michael Giacchino's score was brilliant. So good to hear some actual themes in a movie again. Far too many so called 'scores' are nothing more than noise these days.

Did you catch Elliot's bike from 'E.T.' stuck to the water tower at the end?

Bull ****! How'd I miss that. Definately a cool throw back te the ETt. I'll have to give it a look over.

Yeah, it's stuck to the water tower and you see it for a brief moment, complete with the milk crate on the handlebars.

Not sure if this one is out there on the easter egg front, but i did spot a Close Encounters alien at the end of the movie.
Its in the credits while showing The Case, youll spot the shadow on the wall of the Romero office!

I just saw this via netflix the other day and really enjoyed it. Was it perfect? No, definitely not... but as a child of the 80's, I thought it was really fun and it brought back some great memories of being very young during that time frame.
