Sucker Punch costume thread

atalante! vos cotumes sont fantastique, bon travaille :) j'adore votre babydoll. qu'avez-vous utilise pour le corde, pour l'epee? desole pour ma francais haha.

aw i'd love to have the replica katana but i've made my own (and dont have money to spare!) i cut a shape out of MDF and sanded it down, painted it silver and drew the timeline art on myself..was alot of work but i love it! :D

Hello, I just joined RPF and I am interested in making all of the costumes. I want to start with Baby Doll because her costume seems like the easiest one to make. I already have most of the materials, but I was wondering about a few things and I thought maybe you talented folks could help me out.

Firstly, I know this has been asked before but it was a while ago and many Baby Dolls have since cropped up, so I was wondering if anyone has a completed jacket pattern? I have a couple of patterns I can modify, but I am a beginner and I am not entirely confident in my ability to do it properly. Really, any help on the jacket would be much appreciated.

Secondly, I am having a bit of trouble with the buttons. The first problem is that sometimes they look like an antiqued silver and sometimes they look more like a dull brass... I think they are silver, but I am not sure. I found some buttons that would work well for the holster loops and sleeves (which seem to be slightly smaller than the buttons on the skirt and the front of the jacket), but they only come in one size. These are the buttons in question (they look more silver in person). I did find some other ones that come in two sizes that could work, but they aren't as screen-accurate. Also, does anyone know exactly what diameter the buttons should be?

I am sure I will have more questions, but those are the biggest ones right now. I want to tackle the basics of the costume before moving on the the holster and other more detailed parts.

Thank you all so much for all of the invaluable information you have already posted! I would be completely lost without this thread to help me. You have all made such wonderful costumes - I only hope mine can measure up :)

These are some really awesome costumes, and while I hated the movie its nice to see some good designs come to life from it.

Has everyone seen the Blu ray extended cut special features? Wow! so much reference to work with I'm torn between going for screen accurate or before post production which is closer to my hat.

Parks you mentioned about getting an airsoft Springer I went a different route I'm going to convert the stock I found of a basic rifle into a replica with no working parts so hopefully it will be convention friendly :confused

OK I definitely have my work cut out for me but as with everything I make I need a plan. I noticed while doing this the stock resembles the Garand more so I think mine is going to be custom.

All the areas circled in red on mine (bottom) will be modified and all other parts I am planning on making out of pvc and various airsoft parts I already have.

I'm also in touch with Michael Wilkinson the costume designer of the film so I'll try and get as much info as I can without being all fanboy about it. :lol

Seeing some awesome costumes coming up in this thread keep 'em coming :cool

HELP WITH BABYDOLL'S JACKET~

i used a regular shirt pattern, it has two darts at the front, bust and back (like the movie). i just shortened the length and sleeves and didnt add the collar :) easy peasy!

The officially licensed sword came in today, it's pretty darn good considering the price. Yes, Pardee's blade design is a little washed out, but it is engraved into the blade...some careful painting should bring it out a bit more. The scabbard is simply beautiful. I'm glad I ordered it.

I took a photo with it against the plastic sword that I mocked up for Comic-Con, mostly to compare sizes.

Paul, I tend to go more historically-correct if the screen version is wrong. The Wise Man, as a British officer, carried an American rifle, the 1903 Springfield. I found a Denix non-firing replica of the Lee-Enfield SMLE Rifle, which would be more correct for a British soldier (officers didn't normally use rifles, but I'll overlook that). If I do the Wise Man, I would probably go with the Enfield.

This time round I'm not fussed it's just something to carry on my shoulder for the parade but I agree the Enfield is a beaut'

Also like Jerri I am doing everything on the cheap I have already spent thousands on costumes as it is lol

Thank you very much! That is very helpful.

I did just find a cropped jacket with the right sleeve length that I am thinking of using to make a pattern. The middle isn't right, but it is nearly the right length and I know it fits me, so I could combine that with the shirt pattern to get the middle right. Thanks again!

My sword came in the mail today, too! It has one small nick on the very bottom, but that's nothing a little touch-up paint can't fix. The accuracy for the price is really good - I'm quite pleased with it overall. I'm not sure why they wrapped the scabbard in black nylon, but that will be easily enough removed & replaced with more accurate cording. I didn't realize the swords were a limited edition of 2000. I got a decently low number (113), too :).

Nice it looks great from what I have seen I'm not really a swords and blade person. Guns are more my thing. Post pics of the timeline though, they do vary in detail. :)

Where's the 'Like' button on this post?

My wife sees it differently...she sees me as a bad influence, drawing my daughter in to my own peculiar -- and expensive -- insanity. So, it's all a matter of perspective. But it does give my daughter and me some bonding experiences at an age where most girls are putting their fathers at arm's length.

It's difficult to capture the etching, but I'll keep trying.

How will you manage the "metal" parts of the gun, like the receiver and barrel? Are you going to mount a scope, as well?

And just so you know, Security at Comic-Con was actually pretty understanding. They allowed my airsoft rifle in without a problem. I also made it very easy for them by removing the bolt, which you can do on any airsoft or non-firing replica that can be torn down. I don't know whether or not Security in the UK is more strict, though.

I had my Kyle Reese shotgun confiscated at a con even although Linda herself requested it in the photo :cry

I'm a dab hand at making guns from nothing I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I will probably use pvc and Vac molding to get the Barrel and reciever :cool

Glad to hear. Are you going to Expo this October? I'm going to hopefully be the only Wiseman there. Also my Alien will be attending :lol

I just ordered my 1911 so I am going down the gun route rather than the sword. It's a nice piece and a pivotal part of the film but I will enjoy creating my gun and charms more.
