Sucker Punch costume thread

What you got was my reaction after looking through your costume portfolio. Amazing work...if enough people haven't told you that, then please allow me. And it's not just the accuracy and detail that you put into the costumes, but what you did with it after. Especially memorable to me was the image of the Alien Warrior reaching down to pet a little doggy. A little visual gag like that goes a long, long way in conveying the sheer fun of this hobby.

I work as an advisor in documentary film production and it never ceases to amaze me that what might take an army of Wardrobe, Makeup and Visual Effects crew (with a budget) in order to create a particular character, one determined individual in this hobby can achieve much the same result, with home-grown methods that are sometimes even more efficient and/or innovative. That's what I love about this site and the people who participate.

I would assume that you do have the advantage, living in the UK. The trench coat worn by the Wise Man appears to be of the Burberry pattern...military or civilian, it doesn't matter. A new, genuine Burberry coat is too expensive, but you might find a vintage one if you look through the second-hand or surplus shops.

I came across this one on ebay it was listed under trench coat but definitely has the course wool look we mentioned

It is hard searching on there I'm going to try army surplus later today :confused

And of course, after this day of the con, I realized I had the katana slung on the wrong side

That's what photoshop is for. I can help if you want RB? :cool

Found this on the Net today. For those who haven't read earlier in the thread, my daughter (dressed as Babydoll) broke her leg the first day of Comic-Con and had to spend the last two days in a wheelchair, so I ditched my German zombie outfit and threw together a quick High Roller to wear while I pushed her around. If you didn't know that, then this photo would come off as just sick....

Guess I should have made a small hammer to go with the lobotomy tool, but I didn't really expect to pose for this shot.

Sorry to hear that I read on your thread about the stitching desolving too. How did she injure herself? :confused

She was at a National championship for lacrosse, which caused her to miss the first two days of Comic-Con. That was bad enough, but then an opposing player fell against her and she fell badly, breaking her ankle. So then she missed the first two days of SDCC, AND had to do the rest in a wheelchair. All this after we had planned for months to do "matching" costumes, probably our last year to do so (she's getting too old to hang out with her old man).

I probably wouldn't have had a problem with the gas mask if I had taken the time to replace the original 1942 stitching with modern stitching. I repaired the mask overnight, but didn't wear the outfit the next day because it would have made it too difficult to push her wheelchair.

I hope you still had a good time Comiccon regardless. I've had a few incidents where my Alien or Predator have been damaged it can wreck the whole weekend but you have to stay positive. I'm sure after all the effort you both put in Babydoll will rise again. :cool

Ignore the coat I posted found another. Trench coat gabardine OD green date 1945-1960 it's pretty close should I get it?

That's getting closer. I need to study the film some more to see if Wise Man wore a single- or double-breasted style. Regardless, this would work better than a heavy overcoat and the details could be modified to be even more exact. The other issue is the length: most trench coats don't reach the knees...Wise Man's extends halfway down his shins. Then again, I am seeing this from my perspective...I am very tall, so long coats are very difficult for me to find.

I have seen a few examples like this, but being from the WW2 era, they are usually of too small a size. This one is a 36R, I would need a 44-46L. I don't know what size you wear.

PredPaul, I'd love one! I haven't gotten a pic of my Babydoll alone that I absolutely love just yet, I know they exist from the photoshoot I did but they have yet to be posted. I'll send it to you once I have one! Thank you! The one you did of Cynthia looks awesome. :)

EDIT: Oh, and my new Katana was mailed yesterday...I'm excited, I'll have something really accurate to lug around instead of that Luis Vuitton looking thing lol.

Where are you getting your katana from? I want to keep improving my daughter's Babydoll outfit.

Also, if you haven't checked acparadise.com lately, a bunch of new SDCC Sucker Punch pics were posted in the last day or so. I believe that some new ones of you were included.

Mine too! I was half-way through with building my own when I decided that the accuracy and time savings from this one would be worth the cost. And it'll be here in time for D*Con!

Parks, I ordered mine from here: Sucker Punch Katana Babydoll Sword

Haha guess they're sending them out all at once, huh? Yep that's the place.

Nah, none of me in there. Makes sense, given that Al was the photographer, we only ran into one another a couple times and we never managed to set up a shoot time/place. Makes him one of....oh, 5 photographers I forgot to set up photoshoot times with. >.< Didn't help I was only in costume for what probably amounts to one whole day of con. I'll hopefully make up for all of that somewhat at Dragoncon.

Yeah, I'm pretty scarce in photos, too. Between the gas mask straps failing and having to switch costumes, I wore the German zombie outfit for only half a day. I won't get another chance until next year's SDCC. I wonder how many Sucker Punchers will still be around then?

Pretty much every year, I get stoked by how many people take my picture, and then I can't find any of them on the internet later :lol

Though I never really found a group to take pictures with... when I was hanging by the mech, there were 2 Sweet Peas already up there and I didn't want to add to the bunch

eveything was absolutely handmade by me :) i'll be wearing this to another event in a few months (with predpaul as wiseman) so i'm making a few changes.

the stockings will be less opaque with a darker section at the top. i'm going to be editing the shoes as they're not t-bar yet (wish i could wear higher heels but i'd be too tall!) and im also repainting my katana handle and scabbard. any other suggestions?
(i'll also be changing the hair, my hair is whiter now and its also longer)

I've gotta say - I really disliked this film but aesthetically the girls costumes were pretty cool.
You guys and girls are doing an awesome job of re-creating them :)
