Sucker Punch costume thread

Guys, anyone able to help me out with the knotted katana sash thing? I posted awhile back but didn't get any answers. Can anyone that has made one give me some tips on what material to use and how to knot it and tie it around the scabbard properly?

Thanks! :)

I'll give you half an answer. The correct material to use is Kakucho Sageo...if you go on eBay and search on those words, you will find a guy in Japan who sells them in 180cm lengths. You want to select the colour Gold.

A while back in this thread, there was a diagram that showed how to tie the sailor knot that runs about half the length of the strap:

Also take note on how long this sailor knot runs...it is not the entire length of the strap.

That's the only answer I can give you so far. I received my Sageo in the mail yesterday. I need to figure out how to tie it, and whether or not 180cm is long enough. I think that I can easily figure out the sailor knot, but maybe not the attachment to the scabbard. I am mostly worried about the length of the strap...can I make the strap from just one Sageo, or do I need to buy another one?

When I figure it out, I will post here.

Parks you are a legend, someone asked me the very same think today :). Also I picked one of these up today I know it's not screen accurate but I was thinking it saves me making all the metal parts because it's all wood and metal. Totally the wrong era but so is a lot of His stuff :lol

I was going to tell you that I found another solid-resin Springfield, but if you already bought this, then OK. This one might be easier to carry in crowds, since it looks to be shorter than the Springfield. And, it has a scope, which is just as important.

What is this, anyway? Airsoft? Will it pass Security?

By the way, I'm trying to tie the sailor knot in this flat-cord Sageo, and it's driving me nuts. It's not easy.

After playing with this for a while, I see that at 180cm, the length is not enough to make the strap, sailor-knot it, and tie to the scabbard. What I think that I need to do is use one sageo to make the strap and tie to the scabbard, and another sageo to make the sailor knot. So, I need to order another sageo.

Thanks so much Parks! This is a big help. I also see that you posted again that one Sageo is not enough, so I will keep this in mind. Please keep me updated on how it ends up working, as I'd like to be sure before I place my order and try it myself. Huge help! :)

the only thing i could think of is elastic. has that ribbed effect but also the same-ish width and thickness. you can get it from textiles shops :)

Thats a big help thank you! and those shoes are perfect, how big you reckon that heel is? dont want to look too tall as im already 5ft7 :s xx

attention all babydolls!

if you're having trouble finding the shiseido lipsticks i would suggest usuing Barry M lipstick in 150, Pink Suede, or NARS lipstick in Pago Pago. both perfect colours and easier to get hold of. for the lipliner i would use Urban Decay 24/7 liner pencil in Illegal.

shoes! found the perfect pair, all black, correct buckle, block heel, t-bar and cheap!
ASOS | ASOS SONITA T-bar Shoes at ASOS

Here's a closeup of Babydoll's strap:

You can see that they used the Sageo, but that's not what the Sageo was designed for. It was designed as a knot to attach the katana sword to the belt, not to be worn as a strap over the shoulders. So, evidently the film production crew made their own version, which is part strap and part ceremonial knot.

And it's up to us to figure it out. :confused

So much custom stuff in this film but at least this is one we can easily mod. :lol

No need to worry about security I bought it off a mate. it just arrived, no scope though. Oh well I'll order it seperately :rolleyes

I found that some sellers on ebay that sell the Sageo straps price it by the metre so you can figure out how much you would need :) theres one seller in china that charges for a really long length that would probably work.
I know i messaged one seller in the uk and asked how much they recommended and sent them a pic of the braided katana strap and they recommended 2-3metres :) x

Skirt Yardage

Any of you that have made the pleated Babydoll skirt...how many yards of fabric did you use? The youtube video that everyone links to (The box pleated skirt with yoke) doesn't mention anywhere how much fabric she started with. I thought I saw a comment under that video that said something about a yard and a half for the pleating, but I want to make sure before I order it. I was gonna just get 2 yards to be safe? Does this sound about right?

Thanks guys! :)
